    Thanks but way too much work and expense for me. I used just enough silicone to seal the little notch and then a small strip or two of electrical tape and done. Can’t see the tape at all unless you are inches away and no leaks anymore.

    How did you determine that the water was coming from that ?

    • @SnowDrift

      Because it would drip on my crotch while driving and I replaced this part and my crotch is no longer wet

    What is that bolt called ? It broke on my antenna and I don’t feel like spending $100 + on the whole kit when I just need that one bolt.

    I replaced mine. That fixed the compass. XM still cuts out, and gives the message "Check XM antenna".

    I think that tube you pulled out was a drain tube for rain.

    • @SnowDrift

      Definitely not. It was an antenna coaxial cable used for police radios

    Form it around the base like a gasket

    • @Dr.Muddyboots
      @Dr.Muddyboots ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to be clear, to me a gasket suggests removing the antennae and placing it against the base as an interface between it and the metal. Am I correct that your suggestion avoids removal and just "form it around the base ..." Maybe add some heat. It's a great idea. I was thinking silicon but this is better. I didn't know it existed. Thanks!

    So it leaks....seal it a piece of butyl rummer would create a nice seal.

      Just noted this problem on my 2014 GMC Sierra. I'm sure it's the source of the leak.
      Got it out of the rain and protected. No noticeable damage. Drying out everything with a hairdryer. Can you expand on the butyl (just run it around the base?) and recommend a product. Thanks.

      This is a problem for all GM cars with these shark fin nonsense antennas. My pontiac g6 leaks water right into the gear shift lever with a light drizzle

    What does the shark fin do? And can you install it?

    • @SnowDrift

      It’s the satellite receiver for xm radio and onstar. What do you mean by install it?

    • @SnowDrift
      @SnowDrift  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kodynerby6499 I don’t think so. If you want satellite radio there are aftermarket solutions where the antenna sits on your dash. If you drive a Chevy newer than the early 2000s then it should have onstar already

    • @SnowDrift
      @SnowDrift  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sal-kr1ie that may potentially stop water from getting in for a time but who’s to say that the antenna will still be functioning after it’s gotten water in the circuit. I know not many people use onstar but we do and that antenna is the only thing it uses to operate.
