With the 2nd movement *always* my tears start flowing.
I can't remember my age when I first heard it, I was really just a small boy then - but I felt the wetness on my cheeks and how my father very carefully held me. We never spoke a word about it, not then, not later. He understood that I understood the music - what was there to say.

It is my favourite. Specifically Karajan's version that is.
He captures a mood in Beethoven's symphonies that makes other's versions too 'light-hearted'. HvK+BPO give Beethoven a gravity of performance that others can't seem to match.

Sadness.. any lyricity is the joy in light.. bright as and more than the day! 2nd movement is more happy, hopeful and in grandeur than the 1st for me! All the curiosity and wish of hope with all types of attentive concentration of the first movement are in compactness as tranquility and joy of being alone with full license of an idividual's to address these all with right, respect and truth in the second movement for me. The ride with horses riding the caravan in the nature and its locative views are as wide as seas in sleep and in love of truth in the second movement for me.. sadness is not Beethoven.. or this symphony or its movement for me.. grief is a strata in all his works maybe.. but sadness at once and at and all.. I cannot adhere to agree..
      ..
You know there are so a lot more to consolidate in interpreting such a work of masterpiece in words.. let me keep short.. in respect..
      ..
      Best wishes and regards.. kindly..

I think that Beethoven, like a real genious, always surpasses himself creating his next masterpiece on the way towards his musical Summit - Symphony number 9! I would characterize him as a human and composer as "overcoming and rebelious one". He broke all existing rules of writing music. "He lives inside of his music" said Hayden after listening Beethoven "Eroica". Beethoven was absolutely deaf, when he was writng his 9-th, which became the Triumph of that unbend genius! In the first part of this symphony he and his music full of energy and defiance, but the vivacious mood gradually slows down.Second part starts with sublime, marching tempo. It fills to me as, the composer is deep in thoughts - meditating and, all of a sudden thrills the audience with his explosive, unrestrained Allegro! And, then he takes us into the glorious, orchestrial culmination, which feels the hearts and souls with genuine Rejoice and Happiness!. I enjoy listenning this symphony again and again under a baton of incomparable, great maestro - Karajan.

To understand the music of Beethoven and in particular his symphonies #3, 5, 7 and 9, one must hear in them the strivings of the then revolutionary bourgeoisie,. Just as Europe moves from the ordered, predetermined world of feudalism, its music too must evolve from the ordered world of classicism to the expressiveness and emotion of early romanticism. In this regard Beethoven is a colossus.

Even though I think Furtwängler is not only the greatest conductor, but also the greatest interpreter of all time, I think Karajan was the greatest colorist. Listen to the beginning of the Allegretto (12:45). Nobody was able to produce such a smooth tone of the strings with such a haunting element. Simply gorgeous.

12:46. The greatest music written in all of humankind. People constantly praising the 5th and 9th, which are great, but no mention of the 7th, at least in the populist sense. No one can do Beethoven like HVK. Not even close. Hearing this music is the closest I will ever come to believing in God.

you probably shouldnt believe the man made stories in the bible are reality in the first place. b.n. for someone as supposedly important as jesus there is no written record of him outside the bible. strange dont you think. well, there is one account but most scholars agree it was forged by christians.

@@starfox1 Interesting how you automatically associated his mention of 'God' specifically with the reference from the Bible only. Your bias is extreme dude. The pull of some form of divine power beyond our human grasp has been there from the very beginning. I would say it is even essential to successful evolution.
