Here’s a fun tip: 100% wool is self cleaning so if there’s no dirty marks you can leave it for a few wears before it needs to be washed with soap. If there is dirty marks, you can do a spot wash which saves drying /blocking the entire garment!
My rule to stop myself from buying too much yarn is to only buy yarn if I have a project I know I'll use it for. If I find a yarn I really want to use, I find a project I'm willing to start once I get the yarn. I don't have a ton of money to spend on yarn, so this helps me a lot! That and finding yarn at discount prices.
Omg yes that is honestly how I should do it, usually I’m pretty good at getting yarn for pieces I know I’m going to make but then sometimes I just change my mind and make something completely different
I got a little plastic washtub specifically for handwashing knits, and when I'm not washing things I use it as a hamper for hand knits. I've definitely shrunk too many knits so now I'm extra careful!
Hi Tiffany, love your videos! If you're worried about insects/moths damaging your wools or knits, you could store them with a lavender pouch or a cedar wood ball. It works as a natural repellent because insects hate the smell.
It's not winter and it's too warm but you have to try airy, thick and super soft yarn made of wool/alpaca and polyamide!!! They are different from mohair yarn, they are so airy soft and yarn but still bulky so you can use 6-8mm needles. I am working on my first sweater with it and it just feels so nice!! Phil Air Perou from Phildar (French company) is one example but you could get your hands on a similar one!
I’m so mad you introduced me to Petite Knit. I’ve spent more money on knitting in the past month than I ever have before 😂 working on the Scotty sweater at the moment
OMGGGG i love all your creations.I am thinking of creating the tank with mohair yarn,it would be amazing if you could create a video specifically about that tank i loooove uuu so much. You inspire me each day to create something new!!!!
You do not necessarily need to handwash knits. For acrylics and cottons you can just wash them like normal. Only real wool of wool mixes should be washed cold and gently. A tip I got fon my mom, who worked in the fashion production, is to not wash wool often. It's not necessary since wool does not hold on to much body odor. Instead you can hang your wool sweaters in the bathroom when you shower. The steam will get rid of the smells in your sweater. At the end of the season, when it gets warmer, I wash all my wool cold in the washing machine with a wool detergent and on the specific "wool" setting on my laundry machine. Dry flat and you should be totally fine!
ive been crocheting since i was like 11 and somewhere in that time i decided to start knitting and didnt love it but the other day i was yarn shopping ( per usual) and decided to buy wayyyy too many knitting needles because i am OBSESSED with everything you make !!!!!
if youre worried about having enough yarn for the holiday sweater and end up short you can also rip back the sleeve you've done and add 1-2 extra decreases every few rows to super subtly bring down the volume and also make your yarn go longer
I also enjoy making myself miserable by playing yarn chicken... pro tip, get a kitchen scale and weigh your yarn. Divide it into two separate balls, one for each sleeve. That way they’re at least even if you inevitably lose at yarn chicken lol.
You can get washing machine bags to put knitted/delicate items in so if you don't want to hand wash all your knits then you can put them in the bag on a gentle cycle and it should all be fine (depending on the specific yarn of course)
Yeeeeek another video!! Love your videos and the fact that you’re also from Vancouver 💓 Would love a cute lil knitting meet up/yarn shopping date with all ur local fans when the pandemic is behind us for good 🥳
You have sooo many WIPs omg, lol. I just started having WIPs because my brain won't leave me alone with ideas, but before I NEVER had WIPS. And the mohair yesss, I started browsing yarn today and got sucked into a blackhole of just yarn yarn yarn. Loved the podcast and can't wait to see what you come up with next for your projects!
You don't have to wash wool unless it is visibly dirty (and even then, spot cleaning is best)! If it starts to smell, hang it outside for a few hours and it will be better. This will increase the longevity of knits!! Washing them as often as we wash "normal" clothes is really doing more harm than good :) (wash if you spill stuff all over it though, like I accidentally spilt lots of yoghurt on a jumper. Really don't want that to settle in there, yuck)
This is amazing!!!! I have been trying to find the zipper that petit knit used for the zipper sweater any suggestions to where i could find the zipper? 6mm 35 cm zipper

I can't with how you say Donegal and aran 😂 those flecks of colour are called neps and were traditionally added to wool as it was spun here in Donegal, which is a county in Ireland famous for wool production. Other mills rip the process off now and call it Donegal spun ect. Aran is the most popular weight of wool that jumpers were knit in here in Ireland so that's where aran weight comes from, it's named after the Aran islands and aran jumpers.
Hii I want to start knitting (also crocheting) and I'm wondering if it's okay to steam the pieces you made? Because I don't think I have the mental capacity to hand wash each item, I'd rather just steam them. I'm just scared that it might ruin the pieces
Totally inspired by how good that cami looks, on the hanger in the pattern image it looks kind of meh but on a person it shines. Definitely need to make it now. If you don't mind me asking, what adjustments did you make? For sleeves, you said you'd been having trouble with a slightly too-long circ needle - have you tried traveling loop? It doesn't work for very small circumferences but for hats or sleeves it's perfect. Just finished a hat on a 24 inch circ with traveling loop For washing + blocking I use Soak which is a rinse not a true soap. Just put a tablespoon into a bucket of water and leave the knit to sit for a bit and ta-da! It's 30% off on knitpicks last I checked. For stains it's a little harder but diluted delicate detergent is good for spot cleaning. Handwashing is intimidating but once you get started it's easy lol at the mention of unraveled sweaters - I'm literally winding unraveled yarn from a thrifted sweater as I watch
