In order to be a falconer you must: 1) Complete a difficult examination 2) Pass an inspection of your mews 3) Complete a TWO YEAR apprenticeship with a licensed falconer These must be completed BEFORE you can be issued a falconer's license (to hold any raptor) by the Department of Fish and Game. DO NOT just take birds from the wild. Each type of raptor (Gyr, Prairie, Peregrine, Harris, etc.,) has its own special needs that you must be fully aware of. Raptors are not flashy pets. They have complex needs that must be appropriately and properly administered with each bird SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. Raptors are not a hobby; they are a life-style that requires HIGH levels of knowledge, understanding and commitment. WARNING: IF you just take a raptor from the wild without the proper education and training YOU WILL KILL IT. Let me repeat that; YOU WILL KILL IT. And be advised, from time to time various species appear on, not only "endangered" lists, but also "protected" lists which can carry PRISON sentences and/or hefty fines. Do things the correct way for the safety and protection of both yourselves and the birds.

Remember: Wild raptors will not (1) have their health and weight monitored daily. (2) Will not have a guaranteed food supply no matter how much wild prey is or is not available. And (3) raptors in the wild will not get regular medical monitoring or emergency care when necessary. There are pros and cons to everything.
completely illegal sorry mate. Try to get some experience with raptors through a demonstrator or rehibilitator, then you go for your own demonstrator or rehibilitator license. However, you can never hunt with them!!
