Amazing colour and markings on that bird, seriously. I had a female American kestrel about 5 years ago, and am considering getting back into it in a year or two. Good luck with the vineyard man!
Very interesting commentary demonstrating great utility for both parties! Just passed the MD Falconry exam and am an apprentice w/sponsor. Question; could you please point me in the right direction for an appropriate size for my mew and weathering pen (American Kestrel)? I've been told that the DNR will not provide guidance in this respect. Any resource references and or suggestions in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Strict community covenants so modular and smaller is better...
I enjoyed your video sharing your female kestrel. I notice that your video posting was in Jan 18, 2011. How did she do last season? Do you still have her and if so, how many head did she take? My son flies a tiercel kestrel and I fly a second year hen Cooper's hawk. We are looking forward to a good upcoming season. Keep up the good work.
Prefect way to protect vulnerable crops - grapes, raspberries, blueberries... etc. Starlings can do massive damage in a matter minutes in flockes of hundreds. Just flying this beautiful Kestrel will prevent any small birds from wanting to be anywhere around her territory.
Are merlins good beginner birds ? Also , are American kestrels or peregrine falcons good for beginners ? And if not , could you recommend a good beginner bird ? Beauty full bird BTW.
Peregrine falcons are for people who has experience. I would say a kestrel is a good beginners bird or if you want a bigger bird a Harris hawk would be a good bird for you. Peregrine falcons, goshawks and golden eagles are for more experienced people.
Don’t touch a Merlin if u haven’t trained at least 1 falcon they’re rly easy to kill and perigrines from my experience are rly good beginners birds unless ur in the us then u need a permit to own one
The Middle East never got its falconry from the Chinese. You should correct it. The Chinese got their falconry from the Middle East. Evidence of that is preserved in the antiquities of Egypt and Mesopotamia's heliography. Thousands of years before China existed.
Mwdub02 thanks for pointing that out to this guy. Falconry was developed all over the world even the Vikings enjoyed it long before the Saxons made it such a big thing in England
