  • Shingwedzi Camp is situated in a very beautiful part of Kruger, along the banks of the Shingwedzi River, in the heart of mopane country. There's a "back to nature" feel about it, and being the furthest camp from any of Kruger’s main gates (137 kilometers from Phalaborwa and 70 kilometers from Punda Maria), it's the ideal spot to find peace and quiet.
Shingwedzi has a small shop, a restaurant, a filling station and a swimming pool, which is quite well hidden, but persevere and you'll find it😉
There's a variety of huts, bungalows and chalets, sleeping between 2 and 4 people, and there's an awesome campsite with 50 stands, all with power and braai facilities. The stands along the fence on the north-west of the camp boundary are somewhat sought after because of their early morning and evening game viewing potential, but can be "booked" at an extra cost.
Although Shingwedzi overlooks a large riverbed, which was almost dry during our visit, the view isn't as spectacular as at camps like Skukuza, Lower Sabie, Letaba and Olifants.

Gone are the days when the inner circles (A&B) were expansive lawns! Sad!

I know there have been some big floods there in the past few years, possibly that one reason for the disappearance of the grass.

Lawns disappeared in other camps as well, in general Kruger is also not as well maintained as long ago. Management and government (financial) support mostly the cause.
