I have rode a Boxter engine for 20 years. I have never once hit my shins on the cylinders. That has to be the strangest criticism ever leveled at the bike. There are literally thousands of online reviews of the 1250GS and none of them mention this being a problem. I think he just made that up.
The boxer is the best all-around bike motor I have ever ridden. I’ve had v-4, I-4, thumper, I-2, v-2. The smooth torque with ability to rev to 9k. It is an amazing engine. Yes, they don’t sound as “cool” as some other designs but who cares. Y-Noob is just a bunch of millennials with nothing to offer. I occasionally watch their videos and usually end up shaking my head. ADV videos are great. Whitney could probably fit an Africa twin with the seat in the low position. If you do one make sure you get the 1100 Adventure sports and learn the electronics package before the video so you can utilize the user modes, electronic suspension, traction control, ABS etc. Dct is great but you guys will probably whine about it, although it could make you look great off-road. loving the videos guys and I diffidently noticed some new cinematic work.
I have owned both the Pan America and a GSA. The Pan America blew the engine at 5k miles. After Harley Replaced the motor, the bike was plagued with electrical problems. I sold the Pan America back to the dealer for an $8000 loss after the bike being in the shop for months. The Pan America was fun to ride on the street. But it's in no way comparable to the GS. Harley has a lot of quality control to handle before anyone should ever take that on an adventure. Adventure rides get real expensive on the Pan America when you keep bringing it home in a Uhaul truck. Whoever thinks these two bikes are in direct competition with each other needs to go back to studying for their MSF exam. 😂

6k miles on my 1250S orange colorway. No issues at all. I wonder if it has something to do with the dealer I bought it from though. Hales HD in Mansfield Ohio got it in the shop in May of 21 and said they wanted to really button it down for me, so I waited to pick it up until June. Hales is a HD and Yamaha dealer so maybe their techs were better suited to handle setting up something a little "non-harley".
I would probably buy the HD used. A 2yr old with HD approved and some accessories can be bought for around £10k . The GS is a better handling bike but used ones go for £13-15k and it's not a 30-50% better bike. Weight wise the GS feels lighter even though it's heavier because it's centre of gravity is low. HD needs to fix the screen- the one on my Sportster S is 10x better
Harley does it again. Makes a bike that sounds wonderful on paper, rides good and handles good. But then you have to look at it and realize they forgot to make it look good too.

Tbh imho the 3 best adv bikes are the superadv , the at and the gs , and theyre equaly good the only difference is the rider's taste and his pocket depth , if you want extreme offroad get a dirtbike or a tenere700
Guys, the Pan Am is ok but a comparison to the regular 1250 GS would’ve been a little more fair. I’m not a GS rider, I have a 2020 Tiger 1200 but I’ve ridden both the Pan Am and the GS. The Pan Am fit a finish ain’t that great. Too much cheap plastic. It has plastic grab handles for the passenger. I have an Ultra Limited as well so I’m not Harley bashing. It has potential but at best it’s a good first attempt by Harley. Its far from dethroning anything in the adv world.
I'm a big fan of you guys, been riding in one form or another since I was about 8. Couple thoughts on this one though: 1. How the hell you gonna do an ADV bike review and not even go offroad? 2. The bmw comes in smaller sizes, unlike the Harley. 3. It really hurts my heart to watch spite deride the bmw just because it's not what he was expecting. Every bike is different. If tou want a generic motorcycle, just say that. Don't complain about the BMWs front end just because you refuse to embrace it. "This isnt exactly what im used to and is therefore trash" isnt very informative as a viewer. To quote yam himself: "You gotta feel it bro"
With no offroad in the video I'm forced to conclude: Harley made a better cruiser than a BMW adventure bike. I'm shocked. Now compare any Harley to the k1600b 😂😂😂
I’m not getting either one because I don’t ride on dirt. I prefer the Harley, but I’m concerned with longevity and reliability. That engine is making 13 to 1 compression, which seems kinda extreme to me. I wonder how long these Rev Max engines will hold up?
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but HD right off the bat knocked it out of the park! And and, being 5’8” with a 30” inseam the choice is a no-brainer. Hopefully HD will keep refining the Pan, and if they do they will be at the top of the ADV dog pile!
What state is that harley pan am special cost 20000. Cause az it fluctuates out the door 29000 to 32000 with the taxes, title, spoke wheels, and luggage. Used 2021 you can get 20000 to 25000.
the way i see, there was 2 extremes of the Very Best ADVs. on one end there is the super technologic gs1250 and on the other there is the super simplistic Himalayan. Both at the top of the sales world wide for diferent reasons. And the Pan Am just seens to take that gs formula and slide it a bit to the himalayan side. Which is a good thing. I always though of the GS as a flexer and not a doer.
you really havent't figure it out what the Telelever front suspension does? Have you tried slamming the front brakes on the road on the GS and on any other motorbike?
The Pan Am is arguably the most unreliable modern bike. The grab rails break, radiator hose melts, clutch issues, fuel pump issues, engine blows up with low miles, has the "no start" isssue, electrical problems aplenty, bad kickstand, poor mudflaps coat radiator with mud, variable valvetrain issues, throws dozens of engine codes, can only equip quickshifter on certain models, issues with the adaptive ride height system, and worst of all....the dealers are so challenged with this bike, they can hardly get the services right. Oh, did i mention people's engines have been shutting off and stalling at speed? I rode this bike and loved it, but im on all the Pan Am facebook groups and its a nightmare. The majority of owners with problem-free experiences have less than 10k miles on it. Surprised there hasnt been a class action lawsuit yet. If an ADV bike isnt reliable, its almost useless!
Go to the Pan Am facebook groups and look at the polls that pop up every once in a while for "Have you had 0 problems" vs "have you had some problems". The issues a loud few are (justifiably) whining about is effecting
@@rayzorjay7331 I've been in all of the facebook groups since launch, which is where i got all my info from. 6k miles isnt much to go on. I put 6k miles on a bike in a single season, thats not really enough to discredit those who have gotten complete lemons. I do agree that the negative comments always outshine the positive ones, but saying that less than 1% of Pan Am owners have issues is completely incorrect. You can tell just from the recall numbers alone that much much more than 1% are having issues, and the issues are often catastrophic. Im glad your Pan Am has treated you well in your first 6k miles, but dont let that fool you into thinking the rest of the world is crying wolf. If you were one of the many owners who needed a replacement engine at 1k miles, you would be singing a different tune my friend. Not for nothing, but more than half of these issues shouldnt have even made it out of the factory. The more people talk about their Pan Am issues, the less i see other using the "1st gen problem" excuse.
As a GS owner I may say, that I had my good share of visits to dealer with issues. List goes like that- drive shaft replaced, because of corrosion inside and it breaking eventually Frons shock failure and replacement Quick shifter failure and replacement Clutch replaced 2 times Rear Shock failures, from time to time reappearing issue that dealer could not resolve Left hand control replacement because of failure Windshield control mechanism (stiff as fart) bends under wind pressure and failed eventually Think that is all...
The front end feel on the GS is the first thing any rider notices about the GS and it's something you just get used to over ownership. The only thing i didn't like about this video is that neither were dropped 🤣
So isn't spite like 6'5" or something? I'm 6'2" and have never had an issue flat footing a GS even in the high seat position and the highest suspension settings 🤔
Need a Pan Am vs. KTM 1290 Super Adventure R video. The KTM may not be the bigesst seller or most popular but it is the best choice if you want go off road and hit some harder trails.
My hate is the heat from the pipes close to the legs, 2021 no quick shifter, 2021 can't mirror goggle maps from the phone to display (2022 don't know of mirroring google maps to display), 2022 have to pay more to add a quick shifter. Another con or pro depending on the person chain maintenance vs the no maintenance drive shaft of the bmw. Both are great bikes can't go wrong with what the person decide. But for serious off roading adventure you will need a lighter bike vs this huge weighty motorcycles.

I want BMW to design and sell a new R800gs. Exact same bike, 800cc. It would be smaller and lighter, and I bet they would sell a million of them!
I too always pack my ball shaver when adventuring to the nearest coffee shop. You can't be too prepared!
Grow up dudes.
@@steveschneider3872 Spite is just a whinny girl. He constantly whines about the 1250’s weight as if the difference between the two matters. If matters if you are a woman maybe. Then he really can’t come up with something bad to say he comes up with this which sounds like something your girlfriend or wife would say. “I hate that bike. I am always hitting my shins when I get on and off of it”. Whatever Nancy
Tip them both on the side and see which one is easier to pick up..
The benefit of the boxer motor is it will keep it from laying all the way down!!
Ending the video in front of a coffee shop is the perfect fairy-tail-esq adv dad ending.
If I could own any adventure bike for free so not having to worry about price, it would most likely be a BMW, I think it looks better plus I'm kind of a BMW fan. My dad had a limited-edition BMW rockster as well, super cool bike loved it. I grew up around BMW motorcycles, I don't really like BMW cars though.
You didn't lemon law the PA?
@@paulv22 I started the process but ended up selling back to the dealer.
@@AdventureGlide Ah. The lemon law process is a PITA, but I hate to see someone take a loss like that. FWIW, I ride an R1250RS (so lots of common parts) and so far, 7000 trouble free miles.
@@paulv22 I knew the bike was going to have issues when I bought it. But I wasn't prepared to be without a motorcycle for months.
WATERBENDER BLUE! Spite just gets cooler and cooler. ATLA fans represent!
Instead of these comparisons, you should be doing a film on how to remove the boxes. It seems everyone that has a mamoth bike keeps forgetting that... :)
The Pan America is a good start for Harley’s first ADV bike. Their 2nd gen will improve and get closer to The Beemer.
Jeeeez Whitney, dem pit vipers though. Respect lol
Good one guys. Since Papa Yam is distracted while he’s in California, there is an opportunity for you and Whitney to take those adventure bikes on a trip to the Dirty Shame for some swampy weirdness!
Diggin this background music, btw. Nice job, Yam 👍 🎹 🎛️ 🎧 🎶
Better comparison would of been versus a GS not GS/A.
Why don't they ever talk about or review the Africa Twin?
I trade my Dyna Low Rider S 2017 to the GS 1250 Adventure 2023 and I'm very happy for my right decision 😁
what a lovely HD commercial that was. there's sure to be a big bonos in if for you guys.
All the big moto press in north america (and now top social media folks) are in HD's back pocket and have been for decades. Money talks as do the trips and perks.
Newly minted ADV dad falls in love with the Dirt Glide.
I prefer the alliteration of Gravel Glide.
Or Off-Road Glide.
The GM of a Harley dealership told me not to buy the Pan-Am yet. Great potential, but massive reliability problems persist at this first generation.
Sounds about right
@@PetrolJunkie Oh man that sounds like a nightmare!
Thats shameful they won't cover it under the warranty. Get a lawyer that's BS!
@@PetrolJunkie I blew the engine up on my Pan America at 5k they told me that the manifold came off the oil pump. Smoked the engine. Harley did replace the engine, but I had tons of electrical issues. I feel for you. My first, and only Harley experience was terrible.
Not so… there have been a few bikes with serious issues, but not loads…
"I'll put it in my pocket." The casual ball shaver lol
I would probably buy the HD used. A 2yr old with HD approved and some accessories can be bought for around £10k . The GS is a better handling bike but used ones go for £13-15k and it's not a 30-50% better bike. Weight wise the GS feels lighter even though it's heavier because it's centre of gravity is low. HD needs to fix the screen- the one on my Sportster S is 10x better
Harley does it again. Makes a bike that sounds wonderful on paper, rides good and handles good. But then you have to look at it and realize they forgot to make it look good too.
It truly is an amazingly ugly bike!
A video on V4 engine bikes would be greatly appreciated.
I want them to ride a VFR and compare it to other bikes
Ewen and Charlie kickstarted the Pan America also with their long way up. Even if it was an electric version.
I WANT MORE DEREK!! DO A SERIES ON DEREK!! I WANT A DEREK WIFU BODY PILLOW!! FINALLY SOME DEMOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATION FOR US OPPRESSED LIFTERS!! MANS GOT GUNS FOR DAYS!!! I WANT A DEREK CALANDER GOTDAMNIT!!
Tbh imho the 3 best adv bikes are the superadv , the at and the gs , and theyre equaly good the only difference is the rider's taste and his pocket depth , if you want extreme offroad get a dirtbike or a tenere700
Great video but a better comparison video would be the W800 vs T100. W800 when?
Can't be a flagship ADV without shaft drive.
It would be nice if other companies started making that the ADV standard. Not enough have it yet.
Fact Check: TRUE!
Tell that to KTM.
You guys need a tenere, africa twin, the Harley and a beemer
No ktm?? Lol damn
nice that the panam comes with a ball shaver in this episode!
Yaaaaayyyy spite finally gets to see what it's like being short for once🤣🤣
"i don't wanna touch it" wise words young lady
Both of these bikes are equally great for riding the flat pavement to the nearest coffee shop ;-).
If a King Dong bike exists, does that mean there's also a Queen Clam? 🤔
I'm a big fan of you guys, been riding in one form or another since I was about 8.
Couple thoughts on this one though:
Thanks for stating the obvious.
Both motorcycles will perform equally well going for a coffe at starbucks..
hehe finally managed to get my first bike 😅 am in the UK so starting on a measley 125cc but still excited
Onya. All bikes are fun.
I’m not getting either one because I don’t ride on dirt. I prefer the Harley, but I’m concerned with longevity and reliability. That engine is making 13 to 1 compression, which seems kinda extreme to me. I wonder how long these Rev Max engines will hold up?
Thats just it....they arent holding up. The motors have been blowing with low miles ever since the Pan Am hit showrooms
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but HD right off the bat knocked it out of the park! And and, being 5’8” with a 30” inseam the choice is a no-brainer. Hopefully HD will keep refining the Pan, and if they do they will be at the top of the ADV dog pile!
If the pan America is the king, then the honorable V-Strom, Must be the prince, I just has to be!!
The V-Strom is probably the smart choice if you are spending your own money..or Africa twin.
AWESOME VIDEO ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Yes but Spite is a HD simp who appears to mention them any chance he gets. There really is no comparison.
List goes like that-
drive shaft replaced, because of corrosion inside and it breaking eventually
Frons shock failure and replacement
Quick shifter failure and replacement
Clutch replaced 2 times
Rear Shock failures, from time to time reappearing issue that dealer could not resolve
Left hand control replacement because of failure
Windshield control mechanism (stiff as fart) bends under wind pressure and failed eventually
Think that is all...
100% Agreed. Mine was a POS. But fun to ride in the canyons. Never trusted it to really get out there like in do with the. BMW GSA and Super Tenere.
I almost bought a GS while I was waiting for valve shims for my KLR!
The front end feel on the GS is the first thing any rider notices about the GS and it's something you just get used to over ownership. The only thing i didn't like about this video is that neither were dropped 🤣
Top selling motorcycles in the USA in 2022. #1 Honda #2 Polaris #3 Harley
Top selling Burger is from McDonalds 😂
Whitney: "(ball shaver)... That's gross".
LoL
So isn't spite like 6'5" or something? I'm 6'2" and have never had an issue flat footing a GS even in the high seat position and the highest suspension settings 🤔
Silly question, maybe -- would you mount highway pegs to the Panam?
I think a better comparison & competitor to the R1250GS is the new Triumph Tiger 1200 because of the shaft
Yammie omg please do a review on the Ducati xdiavel please tells us what you honestly think yes or nope
They need to paint the fairing or something. It just looks too much like an aftermarket bolt-on that never got finished.
if you're whacking your shins on the boxer get boots that run up your shin.
So the engine on the panam doesn't look the same on both sides 🤔 didn't know that.
Great vid, came just in time for me! Would you recommend the Pan Am to someone with a little less experience?
I currently drive with a (European) learner license on a 2009 BMW F800R and it's going really well but i want a bike to explore some countries with, been a dream for a long time. Since I am just 5'7, there really aren't a lot of ADV options for me which is why I've been looking at this one the last few weeks. Just the 1250 is a bit "scary" to me
Get anything as long as its Japanese.
Still wouldn't take any of them off road. I don't like to get stuck.
Depends on what you want to do with them. They're pretty great on easy single track, and can grind up fire roads and the like all day long in high comfort. Pretty fun to hit some gravel and let the back end loose.
I think people keep comparing the pan am to the GS, but in reality I think HD was competing more with the multistrada
Should’ve compared the standard GS..much more comparable even though the gs wins..and I’m probably buying a pas..cost issue for me. New gs1300 is $$$
Free my nigga Yammie
I sprayed my snot on “it’s time to go to Starbucks “
What’s a Pan Am? Is it another cheap knock off of a BMW GS?!?🙄🥱😪……. 🇩🇪>🇯🇵🇺🇸🇮🇹🇬🇧
Does it bother anyone else that the windscreen on the GS moves so much? That just seems so un-BMW-like to me
Straight to the comments.
The GS already set thr benchmarking for this class.
The Harley done a very good job,but it's not a match for thr GS🤘🤘🤘
Oh man. I’ve been waiting for this. But do they compare to the super tenere for reliability ?
I own a 21 PAS, it's a great bike when running, reliability is not consistent. I was supposed to be my daily ride, but it's back in the shop awaiting parts again, so I'm back on my 21 year old RC-51 with 22k on it.
Hard not to go Japanese if reliability is breaking into your top 3 priorities.
*fast eddie glares from a distance*
I’m a recent owner of the R1250. I’ve done extended rides on the Pan Am. It honestly feels/ rides like a superior bike. I’m just not ready to buy this generation.
Hopefully you can compare it against a Super Adventure or a Tiger later too
Yes, put it against the most off road capable adventure bikes, KTM
BEST.
INTRO.
EVER.
