    I love these 4 square reviews, and I really enjoy the different people that participate in them. I'm glad there are some more passionate euro gamers on the channel, as well as a wide range of tastes, viewpoints, and preferences represented on a consistent basis. Well done Dice Tower crew!

    this game is awesome. played 10x on TTS. you can ABSOLUTELY crush it the first game if you're an experienced gamer. Sure, I could see people being overwhelmed or confused early, but if you know lorenzo, grand austria, and other heavy games like this, you will feel RIGHT at home. We had scores of 160's in first game, 190's in 2nd game, you can make things work here and do all 3 avenues. I'd recommend focusing on 2 of the 3 things your first time but this game rocks.

    Have you planned a four squares review of Merchants of the dark Road?

    I am SO excited for this game, I keep checking regularly for when it will be available for purchase where I live. I love this group of designers, especially the games Luciani had his hands on, they tend to rise to the top for me

      I think maybe Chris just likes a lot of the four squares reviewed games more. It's not entirely true, see: Foundations of Rome where he rated it the lowest. Chris is still fairly new in the scheme of things, as are the Four Squares reviews, I'd be interested in seeing who gave the highest scores overall once we have a larger sample size.

      @@soogymoogi I think simply that Chris is the heavy euro guy of the groupso it doesnt surprise me his high rating. it's important to differentiate type of reviewers, cause, for example, I like Zee as reviewer but his tastes totally opposite of mine while I am more into Chris' boat

    Is there a reason to play this with other people vs solo? I just don’t see what having other people is adding to the experience

    • @ormhaxan
      @ormhaxan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is there a reason to play any board game without other people if you can play with someone? Not for me.

    • @elqord.1118
      @elqord.1118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ormhaxan I don't think you understood my point. I was asking what the interactive elements of this game are. From what I can see there are almost none. So you sit at the table and everyone does their thing pretty much and in the end you compare scores without having interacted with each other. That's not why I play board games. That's multiplayer solitaire. That's less interactive than watching Netflix together. It's not for me.

    • @josephbegin6074
      @josephbegin6074 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It looks as though the main point of interaction is the marble drafting and rabbi action. Someone could draft the marble you wanted or take the rabbi action you wanted and vice-versa.

    • @ilqrd.6608
      @ilqrd.6608 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@josephbegin6074 Yes, however you would never go out of your way to steal someone else’s marble and sacrifice your own plan/turn to slow them down. Therefore, you could just as well play this solo (and roll or die or use the automa) because the only point interaction is not even a strategic one.

    • @Therisktaker3
      @Therisktaker3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can say many games can be considered multi player solitaire yet there is an audience for those games. I don’t particularly like much interaction in my games, but I like playing games with other people. What is a suitable style for one person doesn’t fit the bill for others that is why there are tens of thousands of games to choose from. I myself have 0 interest in this game myself, but it is still fascinating to learn about what is out there.

    I'm on Chris rating for this one. Played it twice at BGG and so far it's my fav of the year. I'm surprised about the criticisms with the looks of it. I think it looks great, and the iconography is definitely more "difficult" than lorenzo but most of it is easily grasped during your first play. I can see why Tom didn't love it ,the game does feel to end too quick and your last turns you feel your engine has grown so much but the game is now over. For me, I like that type of feeling. What Chris was mentioning about choosing between getting another marble or placing your Rabbi first adds indeed a lot of the tension and interaction in the game. Really hoping this comes to retail soon in NA.

    Great 4 square review as usual, love the interaction and different opinions. But based on the scores, this is not a seal of excellence.

    • @borreholic7238
      @borreholic7238 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The reasoning that Chris mentioned recently is that it shouldn't be harder for a game to get a seal just because more people are in the review video rating the game. When a game is reviewed by one DT member and gets for example a seal of excellence, that is and hasn't historically been stopped by other members rating it what would be "too low".
      And it shouldn't be easier either, so I guess this was "Chris's game to review", hence if it was only him in the video it would have gotten the seal, so it should now too. Totally fair, imo.

  •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    To bad it requires individual boards. I prefer all eye on same spot (easy to catch "mistakes").

    According to the Dice Tower the game received a 8.5, but Chris gave it a 9. I thought the rating of the game was the highest rating given by any member. Or does Chris get a -0.5 to his ratings, just because?

    • @DTChrisYi
      @DTChrisYi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ha! No, that shouldn't be the case. Where do you see it listed as an 8.5 instead of a 9? We can get that fixed after Dice Tower East.

    • @modemacabre
      @modemacabre 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DTChrisYi I did a search for the video under reviews on the Dice Tower page. It listed the 4 Squares video with a rating of 8.5.
