    TDs best attribute was his ability to always fall forward, he added 1.5 yards to every run.

    Ed McCaffrey played high school ball in my city, Allentown PA. Interestingly, I don't remember him being hyped up locally. Instead, his younger brother Billy was the big star, going to Duke for basketball, though he didn't last there and transferred to Vanderbilt, then went on to obscurity in leagues outside the U.S. Ed, of course, had a fantastic career in the NFL. I think he was always extremely underrated. He also produced a pretty good football son.

    I have my own Moneyball-related football story. Back in high school, there was a fantasy football tournament one year. Not knowing much of anything about football at the time, I asked around for advice and kept getting the same tip: draft running backs early.
    However, realizing that, if everyone was going to pursue that same strategy in the fantasy draft, then I would do better to exploit the abundance of QB’s early on. Thus, I drafted a Bronco by the name of Peyton Manning, who went on to throw 47 touchdowns that year. Following up on this decision, I swiped a couple of Denver’s main receivers in Wes Welker and Demarius Thomas (RIP). A few rounds later, knowing that everyone had told me not to worry about drafting a kicker, I took Stephen Gostkowski. Figuring that running backs would be in abundance, I spent the whole season swapping them around to maximize weekly performances via waiver deals.
    I wound up dominating the league, jumping out a large first place lead by winning my first seven. In the semi-finals, I eeked out a W thanks to Stephen Gostkowski‘s performance, something like four or five field goals. I then stomped my opponent in the championship game.
    In order to preserve my perfect record in fantasy football, I’ve not played since 😂
    P.S.
    This was the year Adrian Peterson, the no. 1 overall pick, played only one game. Iirc, the guy who drafted him basically quit about halfway through the season after his other star, Rob Gronkowski, got injured lmao

    Didn’t the Broncos basically cheated the NFL cap by paying players more outside of the books?

    • @adamtaylor5274

    • @allenf8

      Were known for their Oline doing the high/low cut blocks and going after opposing players knees. Their lineman would Vaseline their arms and jerseys to prevent opposing players of getting a grip. Also the rumored headsets in players helmets to allow in-game coaching which was alleged by a former Bronco player.

    • @EricWhitcomb
      @EricWhitcomb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the Broncos did not cheat the cap. They were strapped for money and got players to agree to deferred payments with interest. All money was still accounted for under the cap. It offered no competitive advantage, but was more an indicator of how cash poor they were to be able to compete even with the shared revenue model in place since 1993/1994. The reason they got fined and lost draft picks was because the deferred payments were in violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. No players were ever paid money that was not accounted for under the Salary Cap. Think of it like this, if they had an owner who had more cash on hand, they wouldn't have ever had to defer the payments and not a single blip would have changed in terms of their salary cap.

    The way you defined the game of football, was the most accurate definition of the charcture of the game i've ever heard. Most of the times i hear people saying football is not like soccer or basketball (individual oriented basketball), where you have one guy who is above the rest and he does it all. but they didnt gave a clear definition for football.

  • @orangeblitz4786

    Best part of money ball is that the 2002 season consisted of the Anaheim Angels winning the World Series. They used a completely different philosophy. Suck it Athletics. Did like what the Broncos did back in the day. Go Broncos.

    • @warlordofbritannia
      @warlordofbritannia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2002 Angels are interesting-they hadn’t been good for years before then, but they missed the playoffs again the next year. Only in 2004 did they start making it every year (until, by a stroke of unbelievably poor luck, Mike Trout arrived in 2012. Since then they’ve only made it once or twice.)
      Anyways, those Angels teams were already quite different from 2002--Darrin Estrad and Tim Salmon declined and retired, ultimately replaced by Vlad Guerrero and Juan Rivera, David Eckstein and Adam Kennedy were gone by 2006, Troy Percival was succeeded in the closer spot by Francisco Rodriguez, Russ Ortiz gave away to Ervin Santana and Jered Weaver, the Molina brothers were replaced by MLB legends Jeff Mathis and Mike Napoli…
      Eventually, low walk rate players like Kennedy and Garrett Anderson were allowed to depart and be replaced by more patient bats in Bobby Abreu and Chone Figgins. The only guy with a high walk rate on those 2002 Angels that left the team in the next few years was Troy Glaus, and the Angels have had a hole at third base ever since.
      So, basically, the 2002 Angels were a fluke team that had career years from basically everyone in the lineup and bullpen; the *real* good Angels teams of recent years resembled the Moneyball A’s, sufficient offense built around getting on base supplementing one of the best rotations in the game, ironically enough.

    The biggest mistake the 49ers ever made was letting Shanahan go to denver. It was pretty obvious to me that Seifert was an overrated head coach. Eddie Debartolo figured it out a year late, and actually did fire seifert for Mariucci. He just figured it out a bit too late.

    I think it just came down to the system. Anyone could be plugged in and fill the spot. But the thing I always liked was the fact they needed the clock to keep running. An old RB from my school (Mike Bell) got lambasted when he ran out of bounds and stopped the clock. Personally I think this system could still work today but the rules favor the passing games too much.
