Where the straws that broke the camel's back for me. No point in supporting an organization that is willing to subject their fans who endured a lot of 4-12 to that insulting excuse of a product.
Gruden is slowly MORPHING into Mark Davis. I've wondered why he was never able to really attain the success of his early years. He was seen as the future on the NFL, Chuckie. He was getting all the press and it was deserved. He had taken a journeyman QB and a cast of characters and was knocking on the Championship door, then he was thrown away in what was seen as one the biggest shockers in NFL history...only to be eclipsed by an even BIGGER shocker when he would face the OLD team he built with the NEW team he built and beat them in the Super Bowl. I can't imagine the regret Al Davis must have felt on THAT ride back to what ever posh accommodations he surrounded himself with.
As a Chiefs fan I was excited for the Gruden era, because Gruden was more BS than coach and Mayock was no different so I believed they were going in the wrong direction once this happened. Now one thing you maybe didn't put together but deserves some thought. Perhaps McKenzie was fired because of Gruden's color issues? I wonder what Mark's father would think about all of this considering his advocating civil rights? He was the first NFL owner in the modern era to hire a black head coach. Now saying all of that I do believe Gruden was the scapegoat to make sure there weren't continued investigations from what was discovered in Washington. I think all of that needs to come out in the clear. In fact, Goddell probably needs to be fired for not allowing the information be revealed. Now that we've reached the whole streaming factor Goddell will probably stay on a couple more years and make his exit with a nice retirement package. Perna, maybe you should try and do a balls deep in depth investigative story on the emails situation? I'm guessing there might be some sources out there that may know something more information than what we've been given.
Reggie McKenzie was doing an awesome job... Not only did he dig them out of a grand canyon sized hole of cap space and pull them out of cap hell, but he actually got some good players, who were actually winning.... Now, we can only wonder, what might have happened, if they just left McKenzie alone to do his job.... A re-draft, not even assuming "best" picks, but just average picks, for a non-insane GM.... This could be, right now, a really good team....
Agree, somewhat....I thought his first stint with the Raiders was legit good work, but then after the Tampa Bay SB victory over his old team, it just inflated his head like a cartoon balloon. Then all those years as a talking head "expert" on TV was adding gasoline to the fire...by the time he came back to the Raiders he was a Hollywood Prima Donna
It's still wild to me that Davis was so eager to get Jon Gruden to coach the Raiders. The same Jon Gruden who the Raiders traded to Tampa Bay only for Gruden to crush their dreams of their first Super Bowl win since 1983. They immediately collapsed and have been 0-2 in playoff games since, never making it to the divisional round. That's the Jon Gruden he wanted.
The Gruden Mayock fiasco was almost as much fun to experience in this lifetime as was watching Josh McDaniels dismantling the Broncos when he was sent from the mothership to do so.
The Raiders have always been decades behind the rest of the NFL, so it was only fitting they get McDaniels and Ziegler to try the “Let be the Patriots” because that’s worked so well for the other nine teams that have tried it.
As a lifelong raider fan I can't say you're lying about anything but that still didn't stop us from stomping y'all six of the last seven times just saying
He did the same exact thing to the Bucs. He got rid of Rich McKay, a GM who built one of the all-time great Defenses by drafting at least 3 HOFers, and replaced him with Bruce Allen.🙄 Thus starting a downward spiral that lasted about 12 years, finally ending in 2020 when the Bucs won the SB again.
As a Steelers fan, I was rooting for Gruden just because after his commentary of the JuJu block on Vontaze Burfict, I wanted him to stay 500 miles away from the booth.
Gruden got his rep after inheriting a Bucs team built by Dungy and getting to play one of the most incompetent head coaches in NFL history, who couldn’t be bothered to change the playbook that Gruden created. I still get nightmares listening to John Lynch call the Raider’s plays pre-snap.
He did what Dungy couldn't do. Dungy with two different teams had some of the greatest talent in NFL History and got one Super Bowl, beating Rex Grossman lol.
To be fair, he led the Raiders to 12-4, 10-6 and 11-5 records, after turning "journeyman" QB Rich Gannon into an MVP and creating an offensive juggernaut. He very well could've won the Raiders a Superbowl if Al Davis didn't trade him.
Gruden the only coach to have two teams in the Super Bowl at the same time. The Raiders got there with his system and playbook. He took the Buccaneers where Dungy couldn't all this happened at the same time. He should get credit for this stuff. It's so mind blowing people can't wrap their heads around it.
I watch and love all of your videos, and am fully aware that you are a Broncos fan… I’ve been a Raider for all 34 years of my life, but the ending of this video is FUCKING LEGENDARY.
Good video Perna. Being a raiders fan during all this was definitely hard to get through. I just gave up on football after the ruggs incident. But I'm back.. and hopeful.
12:27 that's a pretty good insight I hadn't considered. Gruden only wanted to pick the flashy 1st rounders and mayock picked better in the later rounds, hitting more often on talented players in the second half than gruden did in the first. Interesting theory
I remember the day the announcement of Grudens return. I remember all the joy in the air. I remember being told I wasn’t a real fan because I said Stucky’s days were behind him. Funny how none of you now didn’t want Gruden.
And now the video of Damon Arnette being arrested twice in one day. Leatherwood, Ferrell, etc...it really is hard to take how Mayock and Gruden could make such monumentally bad choices with such high draft picks.
It looks like they have what they need now but so does their competition. They’ll be able to stay in the fight and that’s commendable given the damage done by the previous regime
I think Gruden's main fault as a play caller was he was obvious. He didn't really disguise his plays. When he ran the ball he had this mentality that the stronger team would out muscle the weaker team and the NFL has evolved passed this mindset. He needed to be more pass heavy and never went that direction. Also his defensive coordinators were also from a bygone generation as well. I liked the decision at first to hire him, JDR seemed to have reached his limit and Gruden was a head coach with a ring which is hard to be in the NFL. By year 3 I wanted him gone so bad
The way I understand it, Mayock was responsible for the later rounds, which brought in guys like Crosby and Renfrow, but Gruden had the early rounds as his deal. I would have liked to see Mayock have control of at least 1 draft all on his own, but it is what it is
As a raider fan it was amazing to see the bears fail to get a championship (and waste macks prime). Especially when bears moved.on from "once in a lifetime talent".
Bro yall didn't even give them much picks. You traded one first for khlil Mack then pick swapped a 1st for 2nd. Both teams lost that trade, but you guys still have Cole Kmet and Jaquan Brisker from it amd all they have is a half back so the Raider lost even more than the Bears.
@@mudviln2875 You laugged when khalil mack went to the chargers? Bruh him and bosa are litterally gonna be the reason yall might not make the playoffs this year. Who the fuck is happy with Khalil mack in their division?
I was a long-time, long-suffering Raiders fan until the Khalil Mack trade. The moment I got word of that deal, the first words out of my mouth were, "I'm fucking done with this team." And it was from this channel that I first heard about that infamous trade. TL;DR - Brandon Perna is indirectly responsible for me abandoning the Raiders.
Also just noticed that Divine Deablo was rated the best Raiders draft pick in 2021... a complete troll pick by Clickbait Sports turned out to be the better than the Raiders' actual 1st rounder
Looks like Josh Jacobs is having his resurrection this season since he’s still leading the league in rushing. It’s almost like it’s “The Revenge Tour” for them declining his 5th year option lol.
To keep is fair and real, Gruden inherited a melted down team. In just weeks Raiders went from a 12-4 playoff team to a 6-10 team. It started in early 2017, week 3 against Washington. Raiders offensive pass game got exposed and Raiders had no run game to fall back on while the defense was prone to giving up 400-500 yards per/game.
@@celica49 There was some political differences as Trump was Pres then, but the team melted down none the less. I hope this year we have a more balanced offense where we can be a threat running and passing with a defense giving up 20 or less on average. We'll know who the Raiders are against Chargers, for example will the Chargers go for it on 4th down the entire game like last year. If Raiders dont stop that shit other teams will begin going for it on 4th down which will make for a long season.
I love how Brandon stomps on the Raiders all the time. As well he should. Unfortunately for him being a Broncos fan. But the fact is, the Raiders beat the Broncos twice last year and made it to the playoffs. Let's ride
By the way the disappointed Raiders fan with his Dad after drafting Johnathan Abrams is my Cousin and uncle lmfao, safe to say we shared the same emotions that day lmfao but 2022 here we come Baby!
Them not picking up Josh Jacobs 5th year option doesn’t make much sense to me😂 get as many years as you can out of them without giving them that new contract
Being a Raiders fan is frustrating. I remember Gruden was announced, if this was 2003/04: brilliant. Giving him that money, him blowing up a very good offence and trading away Mack was unacceptable. Gruden said it himself he didn’t believe in stats and reports, so is it that much of a surprise his main picks didn’t work out? From playoff contention to basement dwellers, so it’s like the past 10 years: pain.
After trading Bryan Edwards this offseason, the Raiders literally have no one left on their team from their 2020 Draft Class. That's the biggest abject failure of the Gruden-Mayock Era
Doc. Don't ever change. You are my new NFL news guy, and I find you funny. Have liked/subscribed to 3-4 other dudes. When you watch enough, they start taking themselves and sports, seriously. Think they need to lecture us, or teach us. Just report the news, make a few jokes (you are talented) and move on. You are a YT star. Not, fucking Vin Scully. John Facenda??
I didn't believe Gruden was gonna be good, not only because of his long absence, but also his late career with the Bucs. Giving him a 10 year contract was insane, yet Raider Nation embraced it. I didn't like Mayock either ... would've much rather taken someone who went up the ranks in a good organization, like KC or Baltimore. McDaniels might actually be good this 2nd time around.
@@ianalex9062 yeah, he was pretty douchy in Denver, but people can change. I didn't like what he did to the Colts a few years ago either, so maybe he hasn't.
@@ianalex9062 well, imho, McDaniels is the best OC at adjusting the gameplan to his opponents ... he can go run heavy or pass heavy, and he's really good at both. The Raiders offense will be much better. Not so sure about the OL though. Didn't Gruden break apart a really good OL? 😁
In all seriousness, these Balls Deep episodes are great and I hope they keep coming. Also, the problem with Gruden is that he eventually decided to be a Brand and lost authenticity as well as inserting his head up his own ass along the way. He thought his farts were delicacies, but yeah, it was obvious from the get go he was a terrible, terrible hire on that second stint. I don't think he's learned from it, either.
First with the Mack trade , it mostly had to be done . Raiders were not gonna be able to afford him going into the next offseason and didn’t want to risk him being hurt before being able to trade him. Secondly Agular actually did work out well for the raiders as he had a good year but then left in free agency to be over paid and back to not being very good
@@jambeard6201 I think he was a bit more expensive, but it would have been cheaper to keep him and not trade Amari Cooper, who AB was replacing. Just more stupid chicanary from a way in over his head Gruden.
The reason Mayock and Gruden refused to draft blue chip prospects is very simple. They had to prove they were smarter than everyone else by drafting players others thought weren’t good. Ego, plain and simple.

I always thought Gruden was overrated. I remember him announcing the draft acting like Johnny Manziel should be drafted in the top 5.
Dude was an absolute beast in college
Agree, somewhat....I thought his first stint with the Raiders was legit good work, but then after the Tampa Bay SB victory over his old team, it just inflated his head like a cartoon balloon. Then all those years as a talking head "expert" on TV was adding gasoline to the fire...by the time he came back to the Raiders he was a Hollywood Prima Donna
**Airhorns intensifies**
It's still wild to me that Davis was so eager to get Jon Gruden to coach the Raiders.
The same Jon Gruden who the Raiders traded to Tampa Bay only for Gruden to crush their dreams of their first Super Bowl win since 1983. They immediately collapsed and have been 0-2 in playoff games since, never making it to the divisional round.
That's the Jon Gruden he wanted.
…his father traded him …he clashed with AD…but he never wanted to go
The Gruden Mayock fiasco was almost as much fun to experience in this lifetime as was watching Josh McDaniels dismantling the Broncos when he was sent from the mothership to do so.
The Raiders have always been decades behind the rest of the NFL, so it was only fitting they get McDaniels and Ziegler to try the “Let be the Patriots” because that’s worked so well for the other nine teams that have tried it.
Bill O'Brien dismantling the Houston Texans was an amazing thing to watch.
Now McWeasle is dismantling the Raiders lmaoo
As a lifelong raider fan I can't say you're lying about anything but that still didn't stop us from stomping y'all six of the last seven times just saying
Facts
He did the same exact thing to the Bucs. He got rid of Rich McKay, a GM who built one of the all-time great Defenses by drafting at least 3 HOFers, and replaced him with Bruce Allen.🙄 Thus starting a downward spiral that lasted about 12 years, finally ending in 2020 when the Bucs won the SB again.
Anyone who says “I’m a good person, I go to church” fundamentally misunderstands what a good person is AND what going to church is about.
As a Steelers fan, I was rooting for Gruden just because after his commentary of the JuJu block on Vontaze Burfict, I wanted him to stay 500 miles away from the booth.
It still blows my mind that the raiders traded Amari Cooper. Why did they do that exactly
It's the Gruden grinder... take top players and turn the picks for trading them into nothing😂
Dropped passes regularly, went missing for entire games and didn’t want to play for the Raiders.
Why did Dallas trade him?
Because gloves to fit brick for hands got expensive when we was in broke ass Oakland
@@TheDreadedRaider he had 2 1000 yard seasons for the raiders....
20:50 I did NOT see that twist coming, you really had me. 😆😆😆
Not the 2-3 seasons making afc championship before being fired for the tuck rule.
That is not how he got his rep.
I watch and love all of your videos, and am fully aware that you are a Broncos fan… I’ve been a Raider for all 34 years of my life, but the ending of this video is FUCKING LEGENDARY.
Appreciate it. Love me some Renfrow
@@thatsgoodsports No!!
Greatest sports media episode ever. Great work.
Bruh they really got Carr Mic’d up with a broken leg they did him dirty ngl
Brandon wearing that jacket almost ensures the Raiders will win the Superbowl this year.
And now the video of Damon Arnette being arrested twice in one day. Leatherwood, Ferrell, etc...it really is hard to take how Mayock and Gruden could make such monumentally bad choices with such high draft picks.
The raiders have been “a year away from being ***Scary***” for most of my adult life.
It looks like they have what they need now but so does their competition. They’ll be able to stay in the fight and that’s commendable given the damage done by the previous regime
I feel the breeze of the autumn wind. It brings forth the smells and sounds of Jon Gruden acting like he peaked in high school.
I would have liked to see Mayock have control of at least 1 draft all on his own, but it is what it is
As a bears fan it was amazing to see the raiders miss on almost all of those picks they got in the mack trade
As a raider fan it was amazing to see the bears fail to get a championship (and waste macks prime). Especially when bears moved.on from "once in a lifetime talent".
As a raider fan... I laughed when they traded mack away to the chargers. We still got Jacobs and that was not a miss. We win!!
Just like I loved how every year after 2018 he was overpaid.
Bro, you know that silver and black looks fly on ya! I don’t blame you for wanting to don the most iconic colors in sports history!
Dana White: Raiders had Tom Brady in the bag, but Chuck blew that up.
My cousin is a die hard Raiders fan. He would have became a Bronco or Chargers
Chiefs fan here. Gotta say, it feels like that chiefs kingdom flag buried underneath their new stadium is really doing some work.
Jon Gruden helped the Bucs win two super bowls at the expense of the Raiders it's beautiful
I support Jon Gruden coaching in the NFL again, especially for a division rival of my favorite team.
Jon Gruden is a good coach, just don't let him draft or sign free agent deals.
your “would you trust this man” to the judge was gold😂😂
Oh man.... I haven't seen those style of jackets since the 80s. I had the Bronco one.
"If I was Gruden's attorney I would show his draft history in court." 🤣🤣🤣
Remember, Gruden is the same guy that single handedly ruined what would of been a dynasty in the 02 Bucs.
Just not true
I was a long-time, long-suffering Raiders fan until the Khalil Mack trade. The moment I got word of that deal, the first words out of my mouth were, "I'm fucking done with this team."
And it was from this channel that I first heard about that infamous trade.
TL;DR - Brandon Perna is indirectly responsible for me abandoning the Raiders.
I think in a few years people will look back and give Mayock more credit...He's not that bad...he should never have cowered to gruden
Josh Jacobs has been balling this year
Also just noticed that Divine Deablo was rated the best Raiders draft pick in 2021... a complete troll pick by Clickbait Sports turned out to be the better than the Raiders' actual 1st rounder
He was a broncos fan this whole time??? Lol I had literally forgotten you were playing a raiders by the end and laughed out loud
That was the year I think Del Rio lost the locker room.
@@celica49
There was some political differences as Trump was Pres then, but the team melted down none the less.
Let's ride
' I go to Church and ....I beg forgiveness'. And there is the 'get out of jail free' card for every religious narcissist ever.
Yea and they’re not even really religious. They just use religion as a get out of jail free card like you said.
The raiders are the team that always reminds me of horrible haircuts.
Wait, you’ve been a Broncos fan this whole time!?!? What a twist!!!!!
Perna! Nelson Agholor was an awesome Raider. He was just terrible before on the Eagles and after on the Patriots.
Brandon "My Leaked Emails Revealed My Real Team Allegiance" Perna
I hate it when Perna is right. Also the salvation army Raider's Jacket is a nice conversation piece.
By the way the disappointed Raiders fan with his Dad after drafting Johnathan Abrams is my Cousin and uncle lmfao, safe to say we shared the same emotions that day lmfao but 2022 here we come Baby!
There's something Blasphemous about seeing Brandon Perna in a raiders jacket
It's not like Gruden didn't have a history of bad personnel decision-making.
Perna shouldve went full Davis raider track suit. Glorious.
Them not picking up Josh Jacobs 5th year option doesn’t make much sense to me😂 get as many years as you can out of them without giving them that new contract
I live in Las Vegas, but I hate the Raiders… I would have rather get the damn Jags tbh.
When I first started watching this channel last week, the first couple videos that popped up were about the Broncos, I thought you were a Denver fan.
Great video Perna. Love these balls deep episodes man!
I am actually having a reaction to that jacket. I feel like I need to bleach my eyes. Burn it Perna.
Whoa whoa whoa... This happened in Little Rock?? I live in Little Rock!! Thank God I missed this.
Brandon "Why am I pretending to be a Raiders fan?" Perna
After trading Bryan Edwards this offseason, the Raiders literally have no one left on their team from their 2020 Draft Class. That's the biggest abject failure of the Gruden-Mayock Era
Amik Robertson was drafted 2020 but I feel you
As a Bucs fan, I’m still loyal to Gruden
what is the over-under this year for incarcerated Raiders? (Incarceraiders)
I imagine perna’s skin is burning wearing a raiders jacket
Jacobs an average rb? Dude led the league in rushing last year
I didn't believe Gruden was gonna be good, not only because of his long absence, but also his late career with the Bucs. Giving him a 10 year contract was insane, yet Raider Nation embraced it. I didn't like Mayock either ... would've much rather taken someone who went up the ranks in a good organization, like KC or Baltimore. McDaniels might actually be good this 2nd time around.
Sadly, I can only see McDaniels as a snake from Denver
@@ianalex9062 yeah, he was pretty douchy in Denver, but people can change. I didn't like what he did to the Colts a few years ago either, so maybe he hasn't.
@@boki424 I just don’t see the change in him, and he may very well prove me wrong, and I want that, because I’m a Raiders fan, but I just don’t see it
@@ianalex9062 well, imho, McDaniels is the best OC at adjusting the gameplan to his opponents ... he can go run heavy or pass heavy, and he's really good at both. The Raiders offense will be much better. Not so sure about the OL though. Didn't Gruden break apart a really good OL? 😁
@@boki424 Gruden- sucked. That’s all that needs to be said.
I plan to learn from this experience: Next time I won't get caught.
"I'm a good person, I go to church"
You just contradicted yourself bro
Going to church doesn’t make you a bad person lmao
Secondly Agular actually did work out well for the raiders as he had a good year but then left in free agency to be over paid and back to not being very good
I love how people act like Khalil was just too expensive but the Raiders were somehow able to dig up enough cash to pay Antonio Brown.
@@rockduded8925 wasn’t ab cheaper? And do I think raiders should have paid Mack
You take that GODDAMN jacket off! 😤😤
@ThatsGoodSports im not gonna lie you had me in the first half 🤣🤣
How did they still make the playoffs last year even with all the turmoil? Tells you the team wasnt actually that bad.
I did the one chip challenge last night, and i can safely say that jacket on you is causing me more gastrointestinal stress...
Sounds great now do Matt patrica and Bob quin and how they down graded ever postion every year.
