Oh my, I can't imagine how you were feeling when the whales went by! I have the best of both worlds today. It is cold here with about 12 inches of snow on the ground from last week, but I am sewing and I have your channel on so I can watch and listen to your boating channel--my two favorite things!! Life is good.
Thank You! As I/we travel in our land RV across Washington this summer, I have enjoyed your extraordinary videos. WOW, what a terrific learning and entertaining presentation Sea Venture continues to provide. If you ever have any apprehension about your video presentations, forget it your videos are terrific! Continue to enjoy your summer and thank you for sharing.
We are glad you are enjoying the videos. It's quite a compliment to say they are entertaining and you learn something as well! In any event, we have fun making them. Thanks for watching and commenting, Jim and Rosy
It's always exciting to see when a new video from Cruising Sea Venture pops up! Donna and I are enjoying getting to know our boat down here in the San Juans this summer, and we're always inspired by you two as we dream about pointing her northward next summer. Thanks for inviting us along on your sea ventures!
Thanks so much. The San Juan's are great. If you can cruise around the San Juan's you can head north as well! Keep us posted on your travels and maybe we can cross paths sometime on the water. Jim and Rosy
Hi Rosie and John! My husband Tim and I just finished this episode and went back and rewatched making it a drinking game. We sipped our drinks every time either of you said "Ketchikan." It was super fun and we loved it. Keep the videos coming - we adore them! Tim was a Class 5 Mariner in Australia before moving to the States. We cannot wait to have a similar adventure. Completely inspired! Be safe and happy!
I love it when I get a notification that you have posted a new video! The whales were great. Fun to see the cruise ships as well. I went on a cruise to Alaska a few years back and loved it. Friends are going next summer and are very excited. Having said that, I would love to do this trip in a smaller boat and have the experiences which you share so wonderfully. Thanks also for showing us your journey on a map. This really helps to give context.
The three "Oh My's" by Rosy was awesome when you saw the whales in Ketchikan. They looked huge! Looks like you are enjoying some sunshine and calm seas in Alaska. However, I would like to see your paravanes at work--I'm sure your would too. You'd think after 30+ videos you'd have your catchphrase "No Wind, Flat Seas" down by now! Looks like a fantastic trip. Enjoy!!
Another great video, thanks. I see that you have added some nice drone video toward the end. Sea Venture sure looks nice from that perspective. Please keep them coming and have fun.
I just finished binge watching all your videos from episode 1 and have enjoyed them all. I especially like the tech talks. You guys do an excellent job teaching us about the more technical side of cruising. If I may make a request I would like to learn more about anchoring, ie: choosing an anchorage, setting the anchor etc. Also maybe an episode that goes a little more in depth about navigation, types of equipment you use etc. Do you need internet to use predict wind? Thanks for your efforts and keep the videos coming!
Brad, We are working on an anchoring video - several people have ask about it. We receive our Predicd Wind data via our Iridium Satellite System. We are working on a boat tour video that will include a detailed tour of our electronics. Thanks for watching, Jim and Rosy
Ok, it's been quite a few videos now since you got home and started the upgrade to Sea Venture, and I have to ask.... Where is Trooper? As someone who has owned cats for the majority of the last 25 years, I enjoyed seeing how he dealt with being on board. Which brings up some other questions...what was it like with a cat on board? What were things like with Canadian customs, bringing a pet across the boarder? What specific issues/problems did you face with Trooper on board? I ask, as I've been considering a similar situation, living on board and cruising with one or more pets.
Hi Greg, The videos with Trooper are from a few years back. Trooper passed away in December of 2017. We now have Blake and Barkley on board, which you will see a lot of in later videos. Thanks for watching, Jim
Finally got caught up, great stuff in your video's, need more tech talk, I see on the vessel locator that you guys are still in Juneau (July 28,2018) having a great time I'll bet. Are you heading further north or returning south again? "No wind and flat seas"
Thanks for watching. It seems like some vessel locator websites stay more current then others. -- not sure why. We left Juneau on July 16th. We are currently (July 30th) in Petersburg. We haven't seen a cloud in days - it's been great. We have a lot of great content on the way. Again, thanks for watching and commenting, Jim and Rosy
Thank you for sharing. In comparison to other yachts, is your anchor a little small? I subscribe to some Caribean sailing channels and they all have huge anchors.
Heather, Thanks for watching and commenting. Maybe I'm just big, or our bow is very large compared to sailboats. Our primary anchor on the bow is a 120 lb. CQR. It's 4 feet long. (we also carry 3 additional anchors of about the same size). The anchor is followed by 400 feet of 1/2 chain, which is just over 1,000 lbs of chain that can be deployed. I haven't come across any sailboats with as large of systems, since most sailboats have to be very careful about the amount of weight forward. I hope this answers your question. Thanks again, Jim and Rosy
Love that country up there. I used to set for hours on the seawall at the Super 8 watching all the goings-on in the harbor. I noticed the Stikine was parked in her spot by the big ferry's dock. It's probably too late now, but you might take the dingy in "Hole in the Wall"(but leave someone on Sea Venture) and film going and coming. I've seen a sail boat in there at anchor but I don't think I'd try it with a boat your size. Slow Boat had pictures going in and the shallowest they said it got was 17 feet. Hope you go through El Capitan. I know it's doable at high water because Lea Lea met a tug bigger than your boat in the middle in one of their videos. Anyway, another great video. Take care.(:>)
Reg, Thanks for watching and commenting. Well, you are really going to enjoy the next video. We did take Sea Venture through "Hole in the Wall", filming the entire time. We went in and out close to high water. We also went through the El Capitan Channel to Sea Otter Sound before heading northwest. Thanks, Jim and Rosy M/V Sea Venture
O my that was a memory that you will never forget
Gorgeous scenery, whales, cinnamon rolls, and even DRONE video! Win win!
"Oh my, Oh my!" Yes, I think I would be just as much in awe of big whales at such close quarters!

That was fun. Whales were great-cruise ships not so much.👍
how are you selecting your anchorages? from the cruising guide, word of mouth, random selections from the chart?
We rely mostly on cruising guides and recommendations from other cruisers. The Douglass guides are the go to books for Alaska. Thanks, Jim
It would be cool if could fit a side by side Polaris or Yamaha next to the dinghy. That way you could drive to the store.
