    QD: The home of Inov 8 the Lake District in England UK. Just stunning, home also to some famous rounds, The Bob Graham round which Killien holds the current record for, also the Wainwright’s. It’s also where the tradition of Fell Running started , look it up, similar to mountain running in many ways, but often not on paths and over open fells, probably hence Inov 8’s build quality. Home also to fell running legends such as Billy Bland, Joss Naylor, 🙌

    : 25 years ago, fishing with my family in a little boat on Jenny Lake in the Grand Tetons. Every direction looked like a perfect computer desktop background image. We also caught (and released) tons of beautiful cutthroat trout. I’ll never forget how happy my Dad was that day.

    Yeah our fells do have very aggressive trails. Staveley is inov8 was founded. The lake district is home of the fell running. You should venture over here to Cumbria one day and try a few of the races.

    Currently laid up following achilles surgery. Entertained myself by doing a Seth-style shoe review (not recorded) on my post-surgery boot. It comes in at a hefty 13.23 oz or 375g. Zero drop with 20mm of rubber slab midsole. The upper is relatively light. Lockdown is customisable via velcro with an open toe box. Fully gusseted tongue. Midsole is heavy and inflexible, not at all loosy-goosey. Close to zero on the durometer test. Grip is best suited to indoor carpet. Who is it best for? Runners recovering from achilles surgery who can't run.
    Thanks for the daily vlogs Seth. You're keeping me motivated to turn that doorknob when I get back to it.

    Great review Seth, thanks. I initially had a good impression of them on my first short run but I've now done a 10 miler and 13 miler on very mixed rough steep terrain in Ireland and I may have to give up on them. To get sufficient lockdown, I tightened the laces so much I ended up with horrendous pain on the top of my foot. On the third run, I got blisters behind my little toe. That's never happened there in any other running shoe. They are lethal on wet slabs - zero grip. Their weight when wet and muddy is crazy. And finally the price. If they had lived up to the Graphene hype, I would have paid happily, but a pair of Challenger ATR 5s can be had for half the money now and are no less capable despite having a totally different target market.

    • @sdemosi
      @sdemosi 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agree with you on some of these points. They're a great shoe for summer hiking but Ireland and the UK are so wet for much of the year and these don't compete with vibram megagrip (used by Hoka) on wet rocks. They last longer than megagrip but the grip on wet rock is unsatisfactory.

    The AdapterFlex is made to allow the foot to dorsiflex properly, not necessarily to flex front to back, rather where your foot twists :)

  • @nicholasfleming8255
    @nicholasfleming8255 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I believe those ‘steak height’ numbers are just for the midsole! You’d have to add footbed and lug depth to get the full ‘stack height’ as we know it. So it’s more like a 30mm+ stack. Inov8 always list ‘midsole stack’ and it confuses everyone.

    Aaah, the Trailfly. 😒 Thet felt heavy and clunky, my legs were tired everytime. Plus this grip is terrible in mud, as it collects it all. With mud you have probably 500-600g per foot 😯. I tried to sell them, but then demoted them from running to hiking shoes 😃 Relegated!

  • @DustinBenton
    @DustinBenton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Seth. Been following for a couple years now and can’t recall you ever giving a 9 or 10. Love the rating but if no shoe can get those top tier scores, you really have a 5-8 score.

    • @johannesruf6289
      @johannesruf6289 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually he hit the 9 several times, including a 9.75 for the lockdown of the Hoka Mach 4. Should've been a 10 i think.
      If Seth had never given more than 8 points in any category, there couldn't be shoes with final scores of 8.something.
      The scoring System is good in my opinion, he just sees room for improvement in most places.

    • @DustinBenton
      @DustinBenton 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know he’s given 9s in categories but overall none.

    • @johannesruf6289
      @johannesruf6289 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 8.72 of the Mach 4 seems to be the highest, youre right. But for an average 9 a shoe has to be outstanding in almost every category while failing none. So i guess we are just still waiting for that perfect shoe 😉

    Little Feedback: Really enjoying this new format where your daily vlog is centered around life and running. Then you create these separate shoe review videos. I know that probably doubles your work but as a fan it's really increased my enjoyment of your channel. This way, if people are not really interested in a particular shoe then they don't miss out on your daily vlog content.

    I've had a pair of these for a while and initially they feel a little MEH whats all the fuss about, but after a few runs they really do start to open up and shine (oh yes they are very kermit green). I've found they are better the longer the run as they just don't bottom out, which is why they are banged up Ultra with the LOOOOONG name.
    I found myself running very smoothly after the trail section on pavement.
    Not sure I'd what to use them down a rocky mountain trail as the higher stack takes away some of the nimbleness their other shoes are known for.
    Beautiful places..... Cormet de Roselend in the French Alps on a super clear day . unlike most alpine climbs the top is a few miles loop around a lake, with snow topped peaks reflected. Most go from up to down in one yard. I've ridden up a lot of these and all have their special memories.
    Thanks for the content and good luck in your new home, you need that space with 4 boys (on a wet day)

      Agreed about the shoes, I have put over 200 miles on and just completed the West highland way in Scotland. They get better and are designed for long miles. I think they are a brilliant shoe, better than Seth's review might suggest.

    Most beautiful place ive ever seen is the exact birth place of those shoes. The lake district in the uk is stunning. Mountains, lakes, and tiny villages nestled between it all. As for the trail flys ive done about 20 miles in mine so far and love them, super grippy on rock and in mud. My only draw back is they are a little heavy. Thanks for another great review though seth.

    @arabacus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm a member of Shane Benzies running reborn and we get a nice inov-8 discount through that. I do actually like these shoes, they stay bouncy right to the end of an ultra, but yes they are heavy. The most beautiful place I've ever seen is the South Downs Way in the morning when coming in to finish a 100 miler with the fog filling the valleys, just gorgeous, emotions may have been high just because of the circumstances though :p

    It can be training shoe or ultra distance shoe.

    This is a shoe that you should get other people reporting back after 500, 600, 1000+km’s etc. Why? It’s tough to give some of these ratings when the unique material is the main feature of the shoe. Curious on the long term foam resilience and general outsole wear..
    I’d like to see some of the DGR family having some opportunity to provide feedback after they have run plenty of miles in the shoes you review. An idea!
    Keep up the good work!!

    I like the Trailfly for uphill running. I do not well in them downhill. Maybe my technique isn't the best. Fortunately we have the opportunity to use cable cars to get down in training or a bustransfer at uphill races. Compared with the Terraultra G260 and G270 the Trailfly have so much more energy return. The toebox is the widest in the range of Inov8, if you like that. You have to be careful on wet rocks and roots. There my Terraultra G260 work best. Not easy to get the perfect shoe for oneself.

    I’ve completed 628 miles and they’re still going though the uppers are probably going in the next 100 if I carried on. Best on ultra trails over 20 miles as very comfy on transitions between roads and trails, not great grip in mud, but good on stoney flinty paths ! Would I buy again ? Yes maybe as great for distance and comfort. Hope they get a bit lighter and improve the grip for mud.

    Seth, are you sure about weight of this shoe? How is it possible to be the same weight US 9 and US 7.5.?

      UK9 is 300gr. according to Inov 8, Seths US7.5 is 299gr., basically the official weight information is wishful thinking. Size US10 is approx. 370gr. according to several reviews. As I was thinking about getting this shoe, I made quite a bit of researching but in the end the weight turned me down, the competition is much lighter.

      Been waiting for this review for a while! Thank you so much!! Wow, price tag stings! Others have said it’s got this awful smell to it due to the graphene, has this bothered you at all?
