    Run in the Inov8 G300 best trail shoes I’ve ever bought! I’m a big lad so like the support over distance. Agree the lockdown is insane and they are just such a comfortable shoe. Love them!

    A great video and exactly my experience. I used the SG4 wide and the inov8 is heavier on paper but doesn’t feel it and like you mention, was much comfier out the box. I’ll be using the inov8 and a pair of la sportivas in cape wrath in august. Pricey but in my opinion, a worthy investment so far.

    Great comparison Loyd. Like you I ran 1000’s miles in all versions of the SG. It was the toe box that finally made me look elsewhere and end up in Topo.
    Very tempted to try the Trailfly, but either the price needs to come down or a new colour way so that my wife doesn’t either mind or notice them !!

    Great video Loyd. My TrailFly took about 50km to fully break in. I agree what you say about the shoe and on the whole I love them, but I’m looking forward to where they go in version 2, it feels like they can shed some weight and they can feel a bit cumbersome at times. I also have a pair of On CloudUltra’s which I didn’t think I’d like , but I love them. A little more precise than the Inov8. They use the cushioning to keep your foot at a stable position and feels a bit like a road running shoe.

    My Trail Fly are on the way! It’ll be interesting to see how durable the graphene sole is through this summer. They’re a hefty price but it won’t be long before that technology filters down right through the Inov8 line and I think early adopters are probably paying for the license to incorporate graphene which wouldn’t have been cheap to secure I’m sure. Happy to take a punt on your recommendation and fingers crossed we’ll both be crossing the finish line in Chamonix in August wearing bright green hoofs!! Cheers for vs piece Loyd and great to catch up last Friday pal!

    Thank you for the great Comparison.
    I'm doing a lot of Shorter trail Runs with the ocasional long run(so far 39k 2400m @7:50 hrs was longest).
    I really like my Hoka SG3 and SG4 shoes and usually don't have Stability issues with them. I usually Run on Jungle trails with the occasional River Tracing Sections. I've always been very Happy with the Grip of the Shoes. They work really well except for Very steep and Muddy trails (but then usually I'm one of the last to slip) and the most slippery wet stones with algae on top. I have to agree I liked the Upper Material on my SG3 more. After the Test I would be interested in trying the Trailfly but the price is quite Steep for someone who is just doing it for fun and not trying to win the races

      The SG3'S are a great shoe. Like you said maybe not that great in the mud but brilliant on pretty much everything else. I really wish Hoka didn't make the changes they made to the upper and fit but nevermind. Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏

    Great video Lloyd. I like the Trailfly but agree it needs to drop a little weight and could be so much better. Once the miles stack up then you feel the extra load in my opinion especially when mud comes into play. The responsiveness and comfort is great despite having a slight firmness to it. Almost there for me. Works for me between marathon and 50k. I also paid £120 for these not sure I would go £170. Interested to see how the new Salomon compares against this as quite a bit lighter and cheaper.

    Great video, as always. I agree that the move from SG3 to SG4 was not really an upgrade, though the upper is definitely more durable (I just started to break through at the flex point at 400 miles). I also agree with a lot of the viewers that the Evo SG is a superior shoe. More squishy, but somehow more connected, considerably lighter and faster, incredibly grippy, and the Kevlar upper is invincible. Going to try holding out to see what SG 5 or Evo SG 2 look like, but will definitely check out the Trailfly before getting a new pair. Thanks for the awesome content!

      The Evo is definitely a good version of the Speedgoat and in my opinion a better shoe than the SG4's because it based off the SG3's platform 😊
      It's going to be really interesting to see the Speedgoat 5 and to see if Hoka make an Evo version. I have no idea when the shoe is going to be launched though? Haven't seen it in store yet, its not in next seasons catalogue? It's a mystery! I think it's be put back because of all the crazy stuff going on in the World at the moment 🤔

    Great review thank you. Liking all the comments below. I did try on a pair of the Inov8's a couple of weeks ago at their new store. They did feel super comfy but also quite heavy. I'm a 10.5 or 11 which is quite a jump up in weight from my Torrents and Saucony Peregrine 10's and 11's. I'll try and find a pair of SG 4 or the Evo's to try. I'm doing the Lakeland 50 in July so now is the time to try something new or deiced to stick with the Torrents. I've done nearly 500 km in the Torrents but I do use the Inov8 insoles in them which make a really big difference.

      Thanks, really glad you enjoyed the review. The Trailfly ultra is quite a heavy shoe especially if you're use to the weight of a Torrent 👍

    Great review comparison. I have both now and prefer the Speedgoat for my purposes which is not running but hiking every day. I also love the weird Hoka TenNine as I have back and knee issues and need that cushion. I want to like the Inov’s but they just don’t fit my feet as well and I have had to use thinner socks. I had to return the first pair in my usual size 12 for a 12.5 and still crowding in the toe box. They do not have the cushion that the Speedgoat have on the trail in my opinion but will be great for muddy conditions and that’s why I got them and curiosity. I am still trying them out. For runners with little musculoskeletal issues the Inov’s will probably be great.

      Really glad you enjoyed the review. That's the thing with running shoes it's so personal and what works for one might not work for the other 👍
      I personally think the TenNine was a bit of a gimmick shoe for Hoka, especially as a running shoe! Maybe it works as a walking shoe but I'm not convinced 🤔

    I took the plunge and forked out the £170 for the G-Flys. For me they had to outperform my go-to shoe the La Sportiva Mutant which I’ve relied on for several years. They did. I’m particularly impressed by how instantly they stabilise as my foot lands. I just need them to last £170 worth of mileage

  • @ianl4518
    @ianl4518 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good review and interesting for me. I'm a SG fan and on my 3rd pair of SG3s, I also have Hoka road shoes, from Clifton to Arahi and most recently Rincon 2. One thing I find with all Hokas is I have to run them with Superfeet carbon insoles to avoid blisters.
    I ran for 5hrs yesterday in Peregrine 10s, I like them but IMO, they are a shoe for shorter distance, at least for me.
    So an interesting dilemma for my next long distance trail shoe because the only issue I have with the SG is that feeling of disconnection sometimes and I find it most prominent when running over roots.
    I get that the SG4 might have changed a bit and I'd love to try that Inov8 but no way at that price difference.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a big shame about the price of the Trailfly ultras because I think it's putting a lot of people off trying them out, which I totally understand at £170!!😲
      I've run the Peregrine 10's up to 50 miles and I found it OK and I was planing to use it at the Arc of Attrition this year until it was cancelled but I suppose we're all different. The problem is the more depth of cushioning you put under your foot for comfort the more ground feel you'll loose, so it's all about compromise. What do you value more, comfort or ground feel Ian? 🤔
      Thanks for watching and supporting as always 🙏

    • @ianl4518
      @ianl4518 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think for up to 50k and faster trail marathons, I prefer ground feel over that comfort. The irony is, when you're tired from the longer stuff and want comfort, the extra sole means you're more likely to trip 😀
      One thing I haven't tried is the Peregrines with the Superfeet insoles.

    Brilliant review Loyd. Im not surprised you went with the Inov8 as I remember your initial review of the SG4 not being so favourable compared to the SG3 and I would agree 100%. As you rightly mentioned though £170 starting price for a shoe is well off my mark. Its funny though too as without the Hoka the likes of Inov8 and others would have stuck with their same old formula ;-) There wouldn't be a Trailfly if there hadn't been a SG.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is funny Phil and I say this all the time when it comes to Hoka. Back in the day when Hoka started making deep, cushioned midsoled shoes all the other brands laughed at them! Isn't it amazing how all the brands are now replicating the same design and calling it there own 🤔

    If you compared the EVO Speedgoat, rather than the normal Speedgoat, that comes in at a similar price point (£150) but is 30g lighter. The EVO is 285g in my UK size 10. The Hoka tapered toe box is annoying but 80g per shoe weight diff over a 50 or 100 miler is significant I think. Inov-8 need to reduce the weight and price before I'm interested.

    You should probably try to always size-up in Hokas! Most companies base their lasts on the US measurement, which in Hokas is only 0.5 higher than the UK they list, however in reality the US size should be 1 higher than the UK size. Which means you should probably always opt for a UK 10 in Hokas, as well as New Balance and Adidas actually, both of which have also done this bad sizing translation.
    If you are going to review the New Balance FuelCell Rebel V2, you should no doubt go up at least half a size as they are very short. I'm usually a short US10 (UK 9.5 in NB) and the Rebel V2 truly is a half size shorter than it's supposed to be by the US sizing.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right the US sizing on some brands does come up different compared to some brands but that doesn't always meen you need to size up, it really depends on the model of shoe 👍
      All the shoes are made in different factories and using different shoe lasts. For instance I've always been a uk10 in a Speedgoat but a uk10 in a Torrent 2 is way to big, so I run the Torrent 2 in a UK 9.5 😊
      I've run in a lot of Hoka shoes over the years and I've had shoes that are uk9.5, uk10 and even a uk10.5!!
      Again you're right about adidas and NB both brands size up really small and I've even had to go up a full size in a some adidas shoes just to get the right fit 😲

      Hoka do offer the Speedgoat in a width fit but it's still not that wide in the toe box. The Inov-8 would definitely offer you a bit more width but if you have a very wide forefoot then the Altra is the shoe to go for. I would say though that your Ghosts have the highest heel off set possible at 12mm and the Altra shoe is Zero drop.
