    Congrats on the FKT!
    I've only done up to an hour in mine, but I agree with everything you've said.
    For me, I didn't get the instant love that I felt with the Terraultras. They are really comfortable though. The loss of ground feel is noticeable, but I guess inevitable with a max shoe. I do notice the additional weight over the G270s too, but it's not a deal breaker and I suspect the extra comfort will be welcome in longer runs.

      Cheers Chris. Totally agree about the Terraultra too - they’re more suited to me. But on the right run, TrailFly work really well.

    Best review i have seen on these. Mine or due any day, I was worried about the weight as they are way heavier than my usual Inov8s, but sounds like they dont feel it. Im looking forward to the cusion and protection on offer. Well done on the FKT.

    Very nice review! Just bought a pair on sale. The fit is a little wide for me so on real technical terrain I have some foot movement inside the shoe. I will make adjustments. Otherwise, the shoe feels fine. The midsole and traction might be best in class.

  • @karlthornton8022
    @karlthornton8022 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As someone who worships at the temple of Terraultra I did find with the Trail Fly that I got a little grumpy about the weight when undertaking ascents. That said the energy return from the midsole has a slight edge on the PowerflowMax of the Terraultra, and rocker motion in the Trail Fly made flats and downhills pretty special. Whilst I have done only 10k in my Trail Fly I utterly concur that they will shine at the distances that frankly I'd be mad to consider undertaking in the Terraultra.
    Congrats on the FKT and loving the content.

    • @karlthornton8022
      @karlthornton8022 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brianogrady9883 as a bang average mid-packer a Half marathon at the minute. That said 12 months ago I would not have entertained low/zero drop let alone lower stack. The Terraultra force good form so I'd imagine another 12 months in them and marathon distances will be fine. Cannot rate them enough.

    @furrybum 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Had my first run in these last night up on Kinder. Loved them along the slabs (and running away from a stampeding herd of cows) but not so much on the more technical bits or bogs. I'm more used to minimal stack (Salomon s/lab sense 8) so felt a little unsteady on looser stuff. Possibly just a case of getting used to it though. A bit annoyingly I found my normal size 12 too small. Inov-8 suggest going half a size up in standard fit shoes (why not just make them the right size).....but they don't do 12.5 so it seems I'm now a size 13 in Inov-8. The size 13 will probably be grand after messing with the lacing a bit and will hopefully see me through Lakeland 50 with no issues. I didn't find them overly heavy either. I have an old pair of Race Ultra 270s with about 900km in them and the difference in weight in a size 12 was 25-30g which is basically the weight of an extra gel

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, not great in bogs I imagine. Won't be going up Bleaklow in mine. Ideal for Lakland50 I reckon! I did that in Terraultra G260 and was a bit beat up and slowed a lot in the last 20km

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shame about sizing - I found them true at UK11 although the firmer rand/bumper overlay put a bit of damage on some untrimmed toenails. A tiny bit more restrictive near the end of the toe box?

    • @furrybum
      @furrybum 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peakproofuk My big toes were fully pushing against the toe box. A bit of trimming would make no difference for me.

    As we say in Ireland - you're a gas man. Love your reviews. Would you consider the Terra Ultras on their own for 100K+ or would you still mix with the Trail fly?

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brian. May have to google ‘gas man’. I’d go 40-50km in TerraUltra but I bet elite runners would run forever in them. I think normal people might think above 40km a bit more comfort is required. If the terrain makes sense, TrailFly for long stuff

    It looks like at the time of this video, the outsole had already wore down quite a bit compared to when it was new. Could you give an update on the longevity of the midsole and the outsole?

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Pretty fresh. Where are you seeing it worn down? I’m at 300km (Total guess) now and still looking good.

  • @neilp8000
    @neilp8000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not finding these as snug à fit as my Terraultras, which is causing a few niggles. Slight rub on my ankle bone, blister on top of my big toe - but I'll harden up! Terraultras were good for 50k/2200m, but suffered DOMS afterwards. Hoping the (relatively) better cushioning of the Trailfly will be a better bet for 100 mile+. Have just 40k on them and tbh the niggles disappear after a few km. Definitely less stable over small rocks but on the plus side can't feel them so much. Also some suck on them when sunk in bog due to the wide sole, and don't seem to dry out as quickly.

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. Not ideal in bog I imagine! I definitely prefer the Terraultra - I think TrailFly are really good for a max shoe. I just don’t need a max cushion shoe as often. I actually think there’s room for a shoe right in between these two. Could be my dream shoe.

      @@peakproofuk You know it's funny, in hand it feels fairly substantial but on foot once your moving I honestly never give it a second thought. Perhaps the midsole is more effective then thought or weight really isn't as big of a detriment if a shoe is engineered well. You are 100% correct about its stability though. Very solid underfoot.

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re either true or a tiny bit small. Cop out! They’re the perfect shape for me, like some of the narrower Altra, so I can get away with a snugger fit. So for me they’re true. Other testers may have sized up if the shape isn’t quite right for them.

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s also an issue I didn’t pick up on that Runtesters and Ginger Runner did. There’s a horizontal bit of tape and r something that CAN feel like it’s lifting your big toe nail. I think if you lace up the shoe properly it goes away. But if you like a lose lace fit, it might come into play.

    • @bilaltahir9978
      @bilaltahir9978 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peakproofuk I have seen some reviewers mentioning the toe nail issue. Have you encountered this issue during your running? Also, how is the shoe holding up after several months of usage? Would you say that it is the best trail shoe of 2021?

    • @peakproofuk
      @peakproofuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bilaltahir9978 I need to do an update. The issue spotted by one of the run testers and Ethan newberry (cus they’re better at this than me) is a horizontal feature that feels like it’s lifting the big toenail. I did have some issues with my big toenails after the ultra. I think it can be mitigated by lacing it up properly as I had no issues in the first third when I used them. In the last bit, I definitely laced them up loosely thinking that was smart. Subsequent testing backs this up, if you like loose lacing, don’t get these or maybe half size up. Lace up snuggly and I ‘think’ most people will be ok.

      @@peakproofuk yes and at age 57,‘ I’ll take it! The plate has a pronounced forward spring in a higher-drop (at least 8 mm) platform. You can “load” the spring even at lower speeds. It is an advantage to achieving and holding the right pace over many miles. Some other excellent super shoes use Carbon plates that are too stiff to load at ultra-running speeds, at least for me. For instance, I can load the Nike VaporFly Next (a fantastic road racer), but only at sub-7:00/mile pace. Inov-8 hasn’t developed a super shoe but the TrailFly may be a step in that direction. I really enjoy the ride and especially the grip despite the heaviness of the platform.
