I LOVE the front grille. I understand that may people who are used to BMW's smaller grille would find it over the top, but frankly, I think it looks balanced and sexy. If there was ever a car whose front grille is ridiculously huge, its Lexus. OMG!

I know it's kinda weird, but I almost like the grill better than the M4 grill.🤷‍♂️

This one has Sport trim, so it gets less aggressive front bumper and also dated steering wheel design compared to M Sport.

Interesting. Proves once again that we all have different tastes and ideas. Nothing wrong with that. Personally, I like the M Sport trims a lot

@@bmwblog I really like this base model a lot more than the M-Sport version. It just looks smoother and cleaner to me without overcomplications with the horizontal air vent lines from one side to another (here it's more concentrated to the middle only) and second-chin below the grille like in the M-Sport version. Shame that they dont seem to offer it in Canada from what I see on the BMW Canada configurator unless you can tell me otherwise?

I have to say this 4 cylinder engine could one of their great engines. I now have 231,000 km on my 2014 F30 and this car behaves like a Toyota Corolla in terms of reliability - It could be because I am a bit of a fanatic with oil changes - not sure - but because of my experience - I may keep my old 3 series and get the new 4 series - still struggling if I should get the convertible - but people have said I was going into a nightmare from Lexus to BMW but I am so pleasantly surprised by BMW.’s reliability. Also the fuel economy is amazing . However it is noisy on startup - I realize the timing chain may to be replaced some day - this engine should win some sort of award.

Me.I currently have a 2014 428i, love it and therefore 430i will be my next one!

Nice review. I had a different impression though. I test drove the 430 while my car was in the shop. I drive a 2016 228i which also has a 4 cyl but the larger size of the 430 robs the engine of its response and also does not allow the playfulness that the 228i can offer. Strangely the gear shifts were not as smooth either in the 430i. Moreover, I didn't find a whole lot more usable space but instead more vehicle to be aware of when driving in smaller spaces. Without the doubt, the new 430 is nicer inside and way quieter, if you're looking for a good driver's car and able to put up with a 2 door, the 230i is a much better option. It is really worthwhile driving both to understand the difference.

Why do people want the automatic stop/start to be disabled when you come to a stop? Doesn't the 48V mild hybrid effortlessly and seamlessly accelerate away from a stop?

It can destroy the engine. Starting and stopping the engine creates unnecessary wear on the engine

I don’t understand who is supposed to buy this car. It is not sporty, not fast, it’s big for a coupe and costs as much or more than the 3series. 3 series on the other hand has all of the benefits and none of the cons.

I literally just bought this car this week! Same color, too! I love this design so much! I always liked BMWs, but felt there was just a hair too little aggressiveness in the design. I think this update was the kick the brand needed to put me over the edge.

This makes Bugs Bunny 🐰 happy (pigs are happy with the M4 sn🐽ut instead). Too un-BMW. As Frank Stephenson says about it: "Good from far, far from good" - stylistically, but also dynamically according to Car & Driver.

to be honest I'm one of the few who've grown to not necessarily like, but used to the G22's grill. but I must say in this base line it just looks absolute sh*t. 🤢🤮. in M sport trim & M440i I think it looks fine, blends in much better with the more aggressive bumpers and wheels etc. car aside, good review though, keep it up 💪

    • @bmwblog

Agreed that it looks better with M Sport or in M4 guise. It fits a bit better. But thanks for the kind words on the review. Chuck put a lot of work into this one!
