    It's impossible to not like an Opeth song, but you guys enjoyed this more than I thought you would! I do prefer the dark, brutal stuff but there's SO many good aspects of the last 4 albums.
    I wonder if there are enough Opeth fans donating that we'll just go through their whole discography now...I won't complain. You two always lift my spirits.

    One of the great things about the Red Rock performance was how included Fredrick is in the vocals. Recently at Seattle, it was another stellar play of it. Their lighting is improving every tour.

    I'm a prog guy and I also like technical death metal but I can't help it. This is my favourite Opeth song ever. The mix on the album is so bass-heavy that for the first time in my life I had to turn the bass down on my receiver because I was afraid the walls in my house would collapse.

    Many people think Axe was a one dimensional death metal drummer, but he has prog skills for days. I personally, maybe being in the minority, prefer his groove and style more than Lopez's. He will be missed.

    • @CMDJS
      @CMDJS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Axl is a hell of a drummer... I repeat... A helllll of a drummer! But Lopez ad that "i don't know what" in the ritms and composition... Its hard... Maybe I'll go with "they're diferent" 😁

    • @TESLACE1337
      @TESLACE1337 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They're both amazing but just different, Martin Lopez has more influence and puts prominent markers on pocket and prog-death drumming overall with Opeth vast discography with Lopez. With that being said Axe is more 2000s death metal with Bloodbath as of the 2 years he spent playing death metal only but have adapted and conquered Opeth with his own style. The band evolved with Lopez and continued to evolve with Axe to a different direction as it should be. I personally prefer Lopez's drumming.

I had no clue they had made the change to this sound so when I went to my local music shop and saw Sorceress I was pretty shocked that they were the same band. • @RossOfRoni

    OK, so, I haven't watched this yet, and I see you're doing a live performance (very good), so this won't apply so much but I wanna talk a little about this album and something I never see in conversations.
    A lot of folks will listen to the digital version of Sorceress and end with this kind of "ho hum" feeling, and a lot of those folks say it felt poorly mixed. Like the bass isn't all there, etc. And they're totally right--the digital version of this entire album sucks. They never mastered it. They did the studio recordings and set the levels there but then never did anything else with it. And it was completely on purpose.
    You see, this album was written after Mikael's divorce. He went thru some stuff, I reckon, and I think a lot of that processing went into the making of this album for him. So, in a way, if you want to know all about a divorce what do you do? You have to get *both sides* of the story. Digital medium for music is not two-sided. It's one side, you get what you get. What has two sides? Vinyl and tapes.
    And I own this album on vinyl. It's fully mixed, with maybe the richest sound out of any of the "New" Opeth albums that I have heard on vinyl so far. Even compared to Blackwater Park (also on vinyl), Sorceress has some absolutely booming moments that are just completely lost in the digital mix. So if you can, try to hunt down the vinyl of this beauty of an album!
