self striping, seen some remarks that were basically neg but that's that. Pre caked (no labor, no need to use yarn winder), by mixing the cake strips with other similar fiber and various colors you are the artist, if there is a stripe that just really does not appeal to you (the fiber artist) you can simply eliminate it and use it for something else, like granny squares or fringe; I am sure if a fiber artist puts their mind to it they can come up with lots of uses for these cakes. Your blanket is smashing!
Hand dyed means more humans working on the fiber, then quality control inspections, etc. I am a yarn snob; however, that goes for acrylics and other manmade fibers. The have to suit my style, pass the laundry test, etc., no matter how little or much I paid for them
I think all Caron skeins can be pulled from the middle. I use simply soft a lot and you can pull it from the middle even though it's not in cake form. That's one of my favorite things about that yarn.
actually I've been working with a lot of Lion Brand Tonal lately and I can always find the end just by stuffing my hand inside and pulling a wad of yarn out and the inside end will be in there. I've tried it with skeins from other companies though and it doesn't always work, sometimes it causes a big tangled mess, especially with thinner weight yarns.
Love this brand of yarn!!...It gives a great contemporary look. Not for those who like more of a vintage look, but I love it for crochet an knit projects
I wanted to buy a bunch when I went to the store today but I forced myself to just buy one so I can test to see if I like working with it... that was hard, I was torn between cherry dip and lilac frosting. There was only one Lilac frosting left so I went with that one. Thanks for helping me find the end I was surprised there was another color in the middle!!
I used a Caron cake. I pulled the yarn from the center. As I went merrily along knitting the yarn it stared to fall out and unravel from the center. I was unable to unravel the mess completely, so I just cut out the worst of the mess figuring I could just use the rest as if adding another color the usual way. I intend to knit from the outside of these big cakes.
I've been reading some of the reviews and I noticed that some have said that it's itchy . perhaps it's because the yarn is a wool blend. 80percent acrylic 20 percent wool.
I'm allergic to wool, but I wanted to try this yarn anyway. No problems. In fact, I love the feel of the yarn when a piece is taking shape enough to have some weight to it. It has a very good hand. I like the yarn itself more than the colors.
As with any "itchy" yarn, once the project is finished give it a bath in hair conditioner and it will be soft after that. My yarn group has done this for many types of yarn and the softness lasts forever after that.
Do you have some Free Patterns for Blankets using the Caron Anniversary Cakes. I bought 2 different colored Anniversary cakes, but I can not find a pattern that uses 1 Cake for the whole blanket. The only pattern I saw was the Wave. I would like something a little different. If you can help me I would appreciate it. Thank you.
hola, me gustan mucho tus vídeos, por favor ponle subtítulos en español, somos muchos los tejedores y tejedoras que hablamos español, saludos desde la bella ciudad de México.
English Translation: “Hello, I love your videos very much, please put subtitles in spanish, we are a lot of knitters that speak spanish, greetings from the beautiful Mexico City” (i hope i got that right)
david rachlin Look on here for a video for the Pandora Afghan. I can't remember his name but it's a man that shows a tutorial for the pattern and it's beautiful!
a lot of people are getting knots in the center or the big clump then you have to fix, knots are a different story. I also noticed there is no dye lot number but it also doesn't say no dye lot. so what is it.
If you can't get to a Michaels store for the Caron Cakes, here is another option that looks to be about the same thing. The main difference I think is that each cake only has 3 colors in each roll. I think the Caron Cakes have more colors in each roll. These Sweet Rolls can be ordered on line for $5.99. www.premieryarns.com/products/psweetroll
I think the hand-washing part is worse than the laying flat to dry. But the yarn is so nice that I've done one small afghan (in Rainbow Sprinkles) and am working on a larger one in Red Velvet. What I plan to do is let the water drain, then wrap the afghan/blanket in a sheet to move it to a safe place to dry. (To avoid stretching it.) I'll probably put it in the back of my pickup, but I think it should be possible to roll it in towels to get most of the water out first.
+Nina Valoroso I'm 80 miles from the nearest Michael's (in Tyler, TX), so I went online to get mine. I caught the pre- and post-Christmas sales and got them for even less than $5/cake, with ridiculously low shipping. If you're a crafter, consider signing up at Michael's. The daily emails are a bit of a pain, but you can really get good deals if you check out the sales and wait for the good ones. Not all the Cake colors are available online, though, but plenty are, and they have good deals on other yarn as well.
i bought some but was very diappointed. it is very scratchy and i don't like the way the colours transition, too long as far as i am concerned. won't buy it again
Ruth Dalton I agree. I bought 2 different colors,,and very disappointed. I'll end up making some socks for around the house. it's very scratchy ,,,and not that pleasant for scarf or hats .
First Caron and Michael's slapped their Customers in the face by not selling Caron cakes Online to their customers who eww not close to a Michael's store. Then they come out with a big announcement that they are going to sell Caron Cakes online. So what do they do they slap us in the face again by selling 4 out of 13 colors online probably the ones that are not selling in their stores. I will not shop even when I visit close to their stores and will avoid buying from Caron because of this disregard of their customers.
Karol Beaufore you're not missing out on anything. I bought a couple of colors thinking they'll be perfect for my little girl's hat and scarf. I was very disappointed to see that it gets so scratchy and unpleasant once you start working with it. Decided to have it undone ,and will probably use the yarn to make socks with. I will not be buying again. Colors do look pretty tho.
Have you tried the Premiere Yarns Sweet Roll? It's not as big of a roll of yarn, but it looks similar to Caron Cakes. It has good reviews. Joann Fabrics carries it. I ordered 5 rolls last night and they shipped already this morning! the colors are gorgeous. I am working with a Caron Cakes and not enjoying it much. It feels like plastic. But I"m going to soldier on and not waste it by making some hats for charity.
I am making a baby blanket with beautiful shades of Caron Cake Yarn ! It is SO SOFT and PRETTY as the colors change from one color to another color. I have also bought another Caron Cakes skein of shades of blue and cream and medium gray ! Thanks to Mikey I found theCaronCakes Yarn ! He's an awesome Crochet Instructor!
Maggie Grace Rasor I've made 2 shawls using the Premiere Sweet Rolls and I personally think it would be hard for Caron Cakes to top them. They are soft I have a wool allergy as do most of my immediate family members. That makes me feel very wary about the Caron Cakes. The sweet rolls are very soft and Squishy which makes them very comfortable to snuggle around yourself after you made a fabric with them. The drape is beautiful and I just couldn't be happier. I must also be honest in saying that I'm a little bit put off by Caron Yarns because they seem to be getting rid of their simply soft line. I have a couple of rather large works-in-progress that I wasn't able to buy enough yarn for initially and they appear to have discontinued those colors period. I can't find them anywhere. When I go online to shop I cannot find Caron simply soft yarn in all of the colorways I need. It's become an experience in what I would call a lackluster collection of colors when before they were like jewels to look at. So my opinion about trying the cakes may be influenced by my displeasure with what they've done to my favorite yarn ever.
Unfortunately I did not like this yarn. I bought 2 colors, and even tho they're very pretty ,I found the yarn too scratchy and unpleasant after just few rows of stitches. I had my work undone ,,and will probably use the yarn to make some socks . very disappointed.
Thank you for the tip on finding the beginning of the yarn. This is my first time using Caron Cakes. This was very helpful
Jennifer thanks for showing how to find the center pull. I love the colors too! I got 3 colors faire, cherry chip and blueberry cheesecake.

I agree. Red Heart is the same. Lion Brand, though--they have those weird skeins that have to be unwrapped from the outside.
actually I've been working with a lot of Lion Brand Tonal lately and I can always find the end just by stuffing my hand inside and pulling a wad of yarn out and the inside end will be in there. Love this brand of yarn!!...It gives a great contemporary look. Not for those who like more of a vintage look, but I love it for crochet an knit projects
Just purchased 4 cakes today at Michael’s. Looking forward to making a blanket for my niece
Love this I can't wait to crochet and knit this yarn. Will have a hard time choosing! Love it!
I agree with you. I also thought they were a lot smaller but was pleasantly surprised to see it was as big as it was. YAY!
Just made a shawl with a cake. I love the colours and texture. Easy to work with.
I got some to make mom a christmas gift! A simple shawl will work nicely!
I used a Caron cake. I pulled the yarn from the center. As I went merrily along knitting the yarn it stared to fall out and unravel from the center. I was unable to unravel the mess completely, so I just cut out the worst of the mess figuring I could just use the rest as if adding another color the usual way. I've been reading some of the reviews and I noticed that some have said that it's itchy . perhaps it's because the yarn is a wool blend. 80percent acrylic 20 percent wool.
Not all wool is itchy! Most wool I work with is super wash and it's very smooth. I think it is actually the acrylic in the cakes that are itchy!
I'm allergic to wool, but I wanted to try this yarn anyway. No problems. In fact, I love the feel of the yarn when a piece is taking shape enough to have some weight to it. It has a very good hand. I like the yarn itself more than the colors.
I don't find it itchy at all.
As with any "itchy" yarn, once the project is finished give it a bath in hair conditioner and it will be soft after that. My yarn group has done this for many types of yarn and the softness lasts forever after that.
Jean Jones I
Thanks for the tutorial and the tip about the hidden yarn color in the middle, where the end can be found❣🖒👏🖒👏
Made a scarf, it washes and drys beautifully 💓 Making a baby blanket next💥
I know it is kind of randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to stream new series online?
@Milo Mathew lately I have been using flixzone. Just google for it :)
I love it , I been making mermaid tails and come out beautiful!
Thank you for sharing this information. It has helped me a lot. ☺
That was very helpful, thank you!
Thanks Merry Christmas🎄
I ran go Michaels yesterday for a different project and saw this. Bought one to play with cause they just looked so fun.
Wow! I love these instantly.

Checked the web and can't find this yarn anywhere. Where can I get this?
Hi there! I think the only place it is available right now is Michaels...hopefully more places will have it in the future. :)
Thank you so much! Can't wait to try this!
Michaels craft store also sells them
Michael's store.
something like Caron => www.perapasha.com/papatya/papatya-cake
I made your Kristen shawl using cakes... Wonderful and fun to work with
Beautiful :) Cheers Jennifer
Can I get some crochet pattern for the fine tread
Are the colour changes gradual ?
Love the yarn. Nice and squishy. But, the color change is not gradient. It ends abruptly.
Will they keep selling this yarn, or is it just for there Anniversary? Will it discontinue?
they are making it thru 2017
i love it! i will buy his yarn from now on. i made a shawl and came and love it. it does no have knots like some yarns
I don't like the abrupt color change makes the project look like you ran out of yarn and had to do a different color

How wide can I make an afghan before the color changes? I want to make nice stripes but not have the color change mid-stripe.
david rachlin Look on here for a video for the Pandora Afghan. I can't remember his name but it's a man that shows a tutorial for the pattern and it's beautiful!
When you knit a baby pants, you have to buy 2 cakes or we knit one who won’t have the same color one leg as the other??
Hi where do I get some please
Thanks a Lot!.By the way , is this yarn, of 8 8ply?
Kindly Reply.
Are these a permanent addition to their line or a limited time thing bc of their bday?
😍😍😍 how do they compare to wolltraum my melodyy yarn?
Can we use different size hook for this yarn ?
I love this yarn!
a lot of people are getting knots in the center or the big clump then you have to fix, knots are a different story. I also noticed there is no dye lot number but it also doesn't say no dye lot. so what is it.
Yay I've been seeing these everywhere and I want to run get me some :)
Jenny Croucher
Is this a crochet yarn or can it be knit as well ?
Kristy Jane, I would say both. Some of the patterns on the yarn are for knitting and others are for crocheting. I say you can do both.
And ideas what i can do with this Yarn ? I have a Ball at Home and don’t Know what to do with 😅
Lina Boshof A hat or scarf would be great!

Do you know where I can buy this wool in Montreal QC. T hank you
Michaels Its on sale this week..Buy 2 get 1 free !!!!!
merci
Which store do I get it at?
Michael's USA or Canada :)
So this yarn would not be good to make a blanket or throw, if it has to layout flat to dry
I think the hand-washing part is worse than the laying flat to dry. But the yarn is so nice that I've done one small afghan (in Rainbow Sprinkles) and am working on a larger one in Red Velvet.

It varies. Sign on for the online deals at Michael's. I've gotten Cakes for a bit more than $4.
Hi. Those look cool. I have to try it. Do you know how much they are? I would love to buy some. Thank you.
When in stock, about $7-$8 a ball. I bought a few the other day.

Give it a hair conditioner bath, the softness will last forever after that I promise.
The long color changes aren't ideal for small projects like socks or hats....but I have found them great for shawls.
