The flow, the zephyrus G/M series, the fold, the zephyrus duo. Asus is doing incredible and unique work in the laptop space. I really like my G14 but this fold looks like a ton of fun. And I hope, like their other ideas they give it the effort and time the idea deserves. Avoiding the Microsoft or Google route of axing things after 3 seconds if it hasn’t made a billion dollars.
I'd love to see a BT keyboard dock to the host foldable with four pogo pins. The keyboard could recharge and run as a USB keyboard, then. It seems like such an easy fix. I wonder why Asus and Lenovo haven't done it.
I've found pogo pins to be unreliable if there's any movement between the two pieces, at least that's the case on my old Dell Venue 11 Pro. Whenever the tablet portion wobbled Windows would switch into tablet then laptop mode on a loop. At least with Bluetooth you expect problems.
@@teh_hunterer indeed, Surfaces seem to have solved it by letting the bit between the keyboard and pogo pins flex instead. Apple do something similar, big magnets to hold the ipad in place then a couple of hinges to dampen vibration from keystrokes. So long as the pogo pins never move in use they're fine. How you'd do that on the zenbook or thinkpad I don't know, keys you hammer on are right above the bezel where the pins would go...

Folding laptops really do see the way forward in terms of bridging the gap between laptop and desktop. It’s amazing that you can now walk around with a 17” all-in-one desktop in your backpack and can shrink it down to a 14” laptop when on the go! I look forward to later iterations when the software is fleshed out and we have a bit more power under the hood to truly be a “desktop replacement” in a broad sense
i just bought Zenbook Duo 14 last year, and now this. how tech flies fast..the Duo itself already awesome the smaller screen is no gimmick as u can place for example numpad, calculator, and a Chrome tab all in that 2nd screen at same time. let alone what this Fold can do.
It's great to see more foldable laptops, and competition between two companies should stop them resting on their laurels instead of innovating. Another great review!
Another Mr Mobile review, and so soon! The Zenbook 17 Fold looks like a very interesting project, but I'm already piqued by that new upcoming ThinkPad X1 Fold. Great, enjoyable review as usual, Michael! Cheers, //Rick
Seeing that giant screen with the Bluetooth keyboard just looks insane and so cool. Looking forward to the state of foldables in a few years, when things are more refined.
I've been an Apple user for over a decade simply because of predictability and stability. But for the first time I see a product so interesting and novel (to me at least) that I would be open to change and give something as cool as this a try. Even with its shortcomings :D
I love the form factor of the Thinkpad, the fabric case too, is pretty classy! Kind of reminds me of the old leather cases of the kindle keyboard, in a good way.
Gotta have it. Don't care about price I buy everything that even has a hint of new and excitement to it. Glad we have new things still coming out! Can't wait to pick this one up when it launches
It is maddening that one of the least polished parts of this folding-display equipped laptop appears to not be the hinge or the screens top layer, not even the crease, but simply the keyboard. Is creating a properly functioning Bluetooth keyboard and ideally adapting more aspects of the Surface Type Cover (which I maintain is excellent considering its form factor and managed to include a backlight half a decade ago) that much more challenging than designing everything needed to accommodate a folding display? Then again, the latter can be explained by development times and having to trim something down to get to market in a timely manner, though on the other hand, the price still makes any compromise hard to swallow. One can hope that this is truly a pre-production issue, though considering the Thinkpad and the fact that other reviewers also reported similar issues, plus the fact that Bluetooth keyboards are not exactly unknown technology, make me doubtful, for this generation. Considering Asus though, yeah, it stands to reason that they will indeed refine this concept, they have a nack for actually sticking to out there concepts till they actually work. Software also still seems to suffer from the cancelation of Andromeda. I get the reasons why Microsoft did that and I understand that their financials did benefit from the added focus on Azure over that project, but I still am saddened thinking what could have been with those changes, having potential for foldables, regular tablets, phones like the Duo and more exotic projects like the HoloLens. Basically, still as amazing a concept as when Lenovo launched their first foldable screen equipped laptop, but as long as the basics aren't sorted out, even the most affluent buyer will struggle to justify the purchase. The new X1 looks incredible, hoping for a review.
The keyboard issues are why I don't like wireless things and will stick to wired till there's no alternative. Or make it hybrid. It woulda worked better if Asus used pogo pins for instance IMO
Yes, Bluetooth is notoriously finicky and only kept in use because its ubiquity. I’m sure better standards could be developed if companies banded together to.
@@The_MEMEphis I’m aware lots of options exist. Wi-Fi, z-wave, those 2.4ghz adapters which are basically just repurposed Wi-Fi, various other iOT protocols. Bluetooth is super frustrating and I’ve never had an issue with my g305 mouse.
Honestly I just want a Ipad Pro 12.9" competitor for android, since most android tablets seem to refuse the 4:3 screen and I prefer it for comic reading (the main thing I use my tablet for)
Mr. Mobile I just got my Zenbook Fold on Thursday and I've been using it like crazy. It's an awesome machine. I had a Surface book 3 and have put it back in it's box. I love this innovation, and I decided on this and not the ThinkPad fold gen 2,because the fabric back just looks cheap. So far so good. So if you got 3800 to spend I definitely recommend this product.
Keyboard works great. I did my research about the Bluetooth keyboard not connecting all of the time but I think the retail software fixed that. No issues there.
I've personally never had a good track record with Asus, so I'm glad to hear it's coming out with a fold to compete with Lenovo. With lessons learned from both sides, I'm hoping a better price point will emerge and Lenovo will continue releasing different models at those good price points to help cover the gaps my Fold 3 can't quite close on with my video editing and audio recording. But I waited 3 generations to buy a folding phone, I can keep waiting for Lenovo to get it right.
A bit off-topic but I see you rocking the Pixel Buds Pros these last few videos and I would love to hear your opinion on them or start doing headphone reviews again. Keep up the great work!
Personally, I think having the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 phone is what laptop computers need. You have a smaller screen on the front of the device (in this case, a 12" screen) for a tablet, but if you open it up, it'll have the laptop form factor or remove the keyboard for the larger screen (in this case, 17"). But then again, that would be too much screen for that size, and the cost would be astronomical.
The issue with adding another screen is battery life. The computer would die within a few hours if you used both modes. Plus it'd be easy to damage the big outer screen and a case for it would make the device way too thick.
Makes me wonder what ever happened to that prototype screen thing where buttons/keys/etc could actually rise out due to the material used. Last time I saw it was when the Nintendo Switch was still just the "NX" and that football shaped "leak" using that kind of screen was the one everyone thought it would be.
The 10" form factor with "tucked-in" keyboard is the ideal for a folding notebook in my eyes. The size of this is like dragging around a thick coffee table book, not to mention how clunky everything about this is like the keyboard implementation. That's to say nothing about the alpha-test experience that Windows delivers. Lenovo's external keyboard and stand are just a bit ridiculous. I can't see any world where I'd carry a stack of peripherals like that over an ultrabook and a thin external monitor. I look back at the old Lenovo Yoga Book and how impossibility thin it was and its 10-inch form factor. If they could figure out the hinge with a folding OLED, *that* would be my ideal ultra-portable.
I don't really see the difference. The external keyboard is magnetically attached to the device. I actually think it's better to keep them separate because even just by looking at it, it looks like the keyboard could damage the screen. I could also use the new lenovo like we use smartphones with the on screen keyboard without carrying around the keyboard.
How do you justify its $3,500 price on such a device. The iPad Pro 12.9 with M1 chip technology is only $1100. Is is because foldable are a lot more expensive to make or its new so we can charge more for it? Thanks Great video and information regarding the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED
The keyboard issue could easily be fixed, if it isn't already a non-issue. The fix: let the user use it wired and the issues caused by BT will obviously be gone. I hope they already do that and if I had that device to daily drive, that's exactly what I'd do: use the keyboard in wired configuration regardless of whether it is attached to the tablet or in front of it. LE: The cable should obviously be on the smaller side. Don't imagine a 2 meters cable.
I feel like the connectivity and charging issues could be fixed if they added a few pogo pins in the bezel. Then it can charge whenever it's in 12" mode, and re-pair. And just, not be using Bluetooth when in the little mode.
I keep thinking about how badly I'd want a device like this that can unfold to be big, but then flip around all the way to use as a tiny tablet and then I realize all I wanted was surface neo :( I would rather a dual screen PC than a foldable PC any day.. multitasking makes more sense in the use case of a sit-down device, and the jump in real estate means a lot more on a folding phone than a folding PC for content consumption
Lenovo said that the reason they made the keyboard and kickstand magnetically attach instead of making them built in was because most first gen users said that they prefer to use the X1 Fold as a portable all in one studio, instead of an ultra portable laptop.

I feel its a necessity to have a built-in kickstand on these foldables. I might use a different wireless keyboard and mouse combo that i prefer and dont require separate kickstand to be carried
I have a 2019 ZenBook 15, it's awesome. I wanted that crazy dual screen one but it was a bit spicy for my budget lol. It came with 8gb ram with a slot for another 8gb but it runs my photo editing apps fine at 8 so I never bothered to upgrade. The only issue I have is it going to sleep and then black screening so I have to restart, but I'm pretty sure that's a Windows issue because it didn't happen until after an update. Others have the same problem.
My guy I am waiting for your fold 4 review before i drop the coin hook us up. Thanks! Oh and this bad boy you reviewed has massive potential but the software kinks are enough for me to stay away and wait for a few updates or a second generation. I do appreciate Asus for their willingness to try something different. Keep up the great work your reviews are must see for me before a tech purchase!
I'm loving the idea of this type of pc. At the moment I own a duo and use it as my daily driver for most things that I did use my laptop for apart from the complex work. With that I carry a dell laptop with touch screen and a portable monitor for multi tasking. As it stands works great but I definitely see something like this working better for me. Great 1/2nd gen of this and I'm expecting Microsoft to make a folding surface along the way and when they do I'm expecting it to set the standard like all the surface lines have. Great review as always
I used to hate Asus laptops(I had one running Vista that would bsod at least 5 times a day due to terrible motherboard design) but now seeing their Duo laptops or the Zenbooks with high refresh rate OLED displays I'm positively surprised to see them doing that well. I'm kinda torn between buying the ZenBook Duo and a MacBook M1 as both have their ups and downs
The foldable screen could work as an excellent portable/foldable external screen for a laptop, specially if it could be easily oriented in portrait or landscape mode
This thing is awesome. Can't wait for the tech to mature and drop in price. I finally broke down and got a folding phone with the Fold 4 and love the idea of having a small and large screen device in one. Also love the Flow Z13 as my gaming laptop/full size tablet, so a future 17" version for gaming/streaming on AND 12ish" laptop when needed for work sounds fantastic.
Personally I am a huge fan of the foldable movement and cannot wait to see what innovative designs and gadgets come from this techs potential. That being said... I think that for productivity we are going to see people play in the folding space but more than likely land on the dual screen setup. With rumors of Apple playing with the idea of a virtual keyboard with haptics on a dual screen notebook to me thinking how windows 11 would probably be very nice on a bigger Microsoft Surface Duo design, clearly there is merit. Either way the tech world goes... I will enjoy seeing your honest and real reviews of the devices.
Love these products and I'm glad to see companies exploring this format. But those prices are high, so I'm gonna have to wait a while for something used. But I do think this type PC, and the mini PCs are the future.
These keyboard issues are I think common to Windows. I have a Laptop with detachable screen and I face the same issue such as mouse being not detected.
I have a Vaio Z Canvas, the battery swelled and when I tried to remove it I harmed the ribbon that connects it to the display. Now that I am into a new computer to design I think I can use a cheaper mini pc, as much of what I used to do in a laptop I can do it in my smartphone, which additionally, being a Samsung, I use the DeX mode.
I wish they'd work with Wacom again. The ASUS VivoTab 8 (with Wacom EMR) was a fantastic device. With a modern processor (say AMD) and in a foldable form factor? I'd buy one in an instance.
The progress made by ASUS, Lenovo with foldable screen technology is so impressive. At this pace, expect a 7 inch phone turning into 17 inch laptop in near future. This technology will allow us to carry handheld, phone, tablet and laptop in one device. We used to need alarm clock, watches, walkman, torchlight, camera, camcorder, and computer for email separately, now we have to carry just one device. The next evolution of electronics is finally here.
I can see myself using this as a replacement for the crappy desktop I have at work, also while on the kickstand it looks like a AIO PC, that you can take anywhere, which is great.
I'm more excited with this small but expanding market segment than foldable phones. (I carry a flip phone anyway, I am not the target for foldable phones.) I don't expect to use anything like this for many years though, since I use Linux, and I know it will be forever until we support for all the gimmicks for these machines. Though my main machine is already 17 inches anyway. You get used to traveling with it.
I suppose there's an argument that foldable displays aren't good for phones due to the wear and tear, but it makes absolute sense for PCs. Can't wait for these machines to get down to the $1500 sweet spot for mass adoption.
If Microsoft did this with its surface book on its bottom exterior, id rather go with that, but i think samsung is ahead of the game in foldable, they just need to push it out to laptop and even paper thin tablets. but the design for those are still bulky and a huge gap. i'm holding off because they know they have more room in improvements. makes me wonder how far it'll cut through with finger nails of scratch grade to leave a mark
What actually is its video rendering strength comparatively? I was hoping to replace my aging gaming PC with this, using this as the primary work and gaming screen, and my X1 fold as the communications screen and reference on the other side. Also, does it have Pen support? Oh my, I might double down Lenovo.
I have the original X1 Fold, had the fan error issue and had it fixed under warranty. With the latest drivers and Win11, it works really well now. I wish they just updated it but at the same size. Mainly I don't like the keyboard has to be removed and carried separately, also cannot wirelessly charge, which lost most of its convenience.

The ZenBook is pretty much a prototype Asus is putting up for sale, not wrong at all.
Issue with Thinkpad Fold is the battery life. 64Wh on a QHD 16 inch screen is going to last like 3 hours, which effectively kills all portability.

I was waiting for this!
Blimey, that second gen X1 Fold looks incredible.
Hello fellow Duo user
This looks like a computer you would see in a 90's Sci Fi movie or tv show.
Was that a Surface Duo 1 revival at the end!? Give it a re-review for the 2022 price and functionality please. It deserves it!
Hello there, amazing review! The keyboard and touchpad do they work good now?
It be awesome to see a gaming PC version!!
Try control + z, it under the last thing you did with typing including deletion
Is there a touch keyboard? so people don't have to use the physical keyboard?
Mr. Mobile has the best job in the world. Just watching new tech excites me so much, what more if you could use it and review it.
How is Linux support? This looks like a great portable programming machine.
I remember Asus used to make this attachable phone/tablet/laptop called the Transformer. It was extremely innovative at the time
Love these products and I'm glad to see companies exploring this format. But those prices are high, so I'm gonna have to wait a while for something used. But I do think this type PC, and the mini PCs are the future.
Can this laptop be used without that keyboard at all? Because I would prefer to use a different (mechanical) wireless keyboard instead.
These keyboard issues are I think common to Windows. I have a Laptop with detachable screen and I face the same issue such as mouse being not detected.
I’m a sucker for foldable PCs
7:02 Then imagine if Asus crammed in a 5900H. That would make it epic on battery life and a killer fast machine
5900H is terrible for battery, I'm using one right now. You want a U-series CPU like 6800U.
To be honest, this is still an amazing device. Despite it’s flaws I’d still buy this device. Thanks for the review @Mrmobile
Can't wait for the first tri-fold laptop!
I want portable fold monitor that unfold to 23 inch for gaming and media consumption.
I wish they'd work with Wacom again.
The ASUS VivoTab 8 (with Wacom EMR) was a fantastic device. With a modern processor (say AMD) and in a foldable form factor? I'd buy one in an instance.
Have you always given battery capacity in watt hours? Everyone should👍!
mr. mobile where are you? I've been waiting for an iphone 14 pro max unboxing, review etc.
I know you have done a hands on with the fold 4 but will you be doing a review ? Would love too see it 👍🏻
The progress made by ASUS, Lenovo with foldable screen technology is so impressive.
Sorry question not related to the video 😅, what watch you're wearing? Is it Galaxy Watch 5?
The issues on this thing breaks a lot of the usability factors, and worst of it is that piss poor IGP for what it's worth.
I can see myself using this as a replacement for the crappy desktop I have at work, also while on the kickstand it looks like a AIO PC, that you can take anywhere, which is great.
I love this form factor. Hope it becomes the norm. Prefer the look of the X1 but I guess the ASUS is only Gen1.
3,5k? Holy moly
Looks OK - but what is that awesome looking typewriter keyboard at 7:05?
I suppose there's an argument that foldable displays aren't good for phones due to the wear and tear, but it makes absolute sense for PCs. Can't wait for these machines to get down to the $1500 sweet spot for mass adoption.
A cool idea for sure, needs a few more years just like the phones did
Sometimes I have to remind myself that we're in the future I always imagined
This looks incredibly useful. Arguably the most useful folding device money can buy now.
9:37 Can this device connect to a larger external VGA monitor?
That price and flaws. Ouch.
What about burn in with the display below the keyboard?
are you wearing watch 5 fore future review? or its your personal smartwatch rn?
Wait. Was there transition to commercial or wasn’t ?
What actually is its video rendering strength comparatively?
I was hoping to replace my aging gaming PC with this, using this as the primary work and gaming screen, and my X1 fold as the communications screen and reference on the other side.
Also, does it have Pen support?
Oh my, I might double down Lenovo.
Anyone else see "The Days Of The Phoenix" by AFI playing? Good job sir 👍🏼
I think usb-c is better and i suppose battery life last à few, days or weeks
I heard that Lenovo found people using the original X1 fold like a portable AIO, and that perfectly describes how this looks to me, a portable AIO.
