Over the years, we’ve only talked about Developer Mode on Chromebooks as needed. There are reasons for that and they mainly revolve around security and safety for ChromeOS users. While I wouldn’t say that you should enter Developer Mode on a regular basis simply because you lose the Verified Boot feature that keeps your Chromebook super-secure, there are times you may need to get something working on your Chromebook and the only route to do so is Developer Mode.
One such reason would be to sideload and test/try an Android app that isn’t available in the Play Store. For now, the only way to do this is to enable Developer Mode. And while I wish that would change, it hasn’t just yet, so there are quite a few of you out there wanting this feature to simply try out a few things, and we thought that, along with the proper warnings, you can take this info and use it wisely.

I have sideloaded an Android app without going into developer mode. I found an article explaining how to use adb in Linux to achieve this. Worked just fine and instructions were easy to follow.
I tried that process but unfortunately adb debugging option is not available in my Chromebook even though it has Linux..I'm using Lenovo c330..

Also everytime I try to enable developer it does everything yours does and it enables but when I turn mine off ot close it it pops up to chrome os is missing basically the screen where you press control d the second time
I love my Chromebook, i still use my pixelbook and always have dev mode on because side loading is the best thing for a Chromebook.....just wish cod mobile would work on it
Maybe you can make a series of great PWA that enables chromebooks, like gravit, photopea, code pad, kapwing, pixilart, tinkercad, etc :)

OK let me just say thank you for this video because the only thing I hated about the chromebook is that you couldn't side load apks on the chromebook. But thanks to this video I keep my chromebook in developer mode and have added some of my favorite apps to my chromebook making me enjoy my Asus 713 spin 3W even more. Why chromebook doesn't make this available like the android phones and tablets is beyond me. I think it would bring more customers to the Chromebook world if they did that. But I'm truly enjoying my Chromebook now more than ever.

Since this was just couple days ago, I can tell that developer mode just got harder, it used to be easier.
My chromebook is fully updated but it still has the old ui for turning on chrome dev Ik it’s not necessary to have the new ui but how do we fix this?
i think the Chromebook i'm working with uses the older ver. because i'm not getting the same options as i see in the video

For Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3, hold power+vol up+ vol down on the tablet itself for 10 seconds (not 5 sec) then release them.

If you're on a 104 os version go to the recovery screen and it say insert SC card press Ctrl and d together and after that press enter and do we what you have to do

@chromeunboxed I followed your instructions and downloaded Linux it works fine. I'm trying to side load a apk called beetv can't get it to work. Any idea or videos on how to install this apk? Its a movie apk
can't make it to recovery mode in any way the combo only restarts normally the System 😅

i've got a bit of a problem. when i press confirm when enabling developer mode, it only gives the option to return to secure mode, and doesn't let me boot from the internal disk. what do i do?
I was trying to figure it out, I found you just have to wait on the os is tuened off screen, then it eventually will reboot. Or at least it did for me.
After you side load an APK and you go back to secure mode, does it wipe out your loaded APK?

Doesn't work on my Acer chromebook. When the keys are hit, it demands to insert a USB or SD card.

Repeat the process and it will revert back to the normal mode/ verified mode
Only your local data is deleted but anything synced with your google acc will return once logged in

Zero effect with these three buttons on Lenovo Chromebook 100s.
Or you can just go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Additional details > Change channel.
That's is not at all the same. You're talking about a Channel we're talking about the mode

I have been using Pixelbook for 3 years for personal development. It sucks! Bluetooth keeps disconnecting for my keyboard/mouse. Sound is completely useless via HDMI. My company uses Mac and Windows, never had any issue with VisualStudio Code, MySQL. Basically, chromebook for dev is a peace of crap.
Something wrong there, pal. I use a chrombook (Asus) for dev work. Wireless keyboard and mouse, code, compile and/or cross-compile in java,C,rust via crostini, good ssh connection to the other machine; and watch the movies through Chrome.
Haven't shifted to dev mode since I needed to use Crouton.
