HOKA Carbon X 3 | FULL REVIEW | The Knit Does Not Fit

- One of the first carbon-plated shoes to follow on the heels of the Vaporfly, the Carbon X has carved an interesting niche in the Hoka lineup. We loved last year's version and thought it was a big improvement over version one. And then there's the Carbon X 3, with a knit upper that- quite simply- does not work for us. A knit upper can be great if done right, but when it's done wrong, it's really wrong. Watch the review for our full thoughts. Available Spring 2022 for $200.

We run legit miles in our shoes and provide honest, no BS reviews of running shoes, running gear, and running races.
I just ran in the Carbon X 3 yesterday for the first time. I found no problems with the shoe at all. The fit was actually perfect, considering the fact that my narrow foot fit true to size. I had no play at all in the heel. I think many runners who typically size up, may find the problems with "locking in" with the new upper. I'm just an instant fan. The Carbon X 3 is my second pair of Hokas, the first being the Clifton 8, both of which have been the best I've ever run in.
One reason I continue to enjoy y’all reviews that when a company “misses” on a shoe, the team give a deep dive on where they “miss” but also explain the attempt why they went in that direction. Thank you for not drinking the “Kool-aid”
Dear Hoka, Please take a Mach 4 upper, because it is excellent. Then take a Clifton mid-sole, because it is really soft. Then add a TPU plate in the same location as the Carbon X2 and X3, because the lower plate position works well for spring and stability - and TPU plates allow some twist in the shoe. Et voilà!
P.S. If you want to go the next step, please develop a pebax-type foam.
Every Hoka road shoe can be summed up as a daily trainer w/ below average durability
This is so true. I hate the hoka trend right now
Bondis last forever. I've got over 1,000 miles on several pair. You need a shoe for easy runs and that fits the bill. And there's low easy and high easy. Bondi is low easy, like 3 minutes or more slower than race pace. Bondi is too tiring for high easy, which is about 2 minutes slower than race pace. Especially with my orthotic inserts which drives them over 13 ounces!
I work at a running shoe store and I really appreciate the honesty in these reviews. Thank you dudes!!!
Thank you for serving on the front lines and caring about runners enough to get them in the right shoes.
Easily the most entertaining shoe reviews. Never change that gentlemen! 👊
I didn’t like the x2 at first because I thought CFP meant super fast. I then learned what this shoe is for: moderately fast/ steady paces for a very very long time. I did a 32 and 37 mile training runs in them. They’re great for that but not for your fastest paces. I’d say marathon pace or a little slower snd that makes sense, it’s for road ultras
«How is it possible to make a weird intro even more weird” 🤣🤣
Great stuff
Hi believe in run and all the runners. Great review. Hoka carbón x3 very good for long distance . Here is my like. A nice week for everyone. ☀️🏃♂️☀️
Dear Hoka, I feel guilty after my last comment. I run in Bondi, Speedgoat and Challenger Goretex. They are totally amazing shoes! I love them. I guess I am upset about not being able to road race with Hoka shoes. I tried them all, sorry.
I’m personally a big fan of the carbon x 2 and I even got a half marathon pb in it (recently broke it by 3mins in the sen 8 though) and It was great in my 57mile ultra. But it wouldn’t be my go to race shoe. More of a tempo shoe I think
Loved the X2… on my second pair… set marathon and half PB’s in them… thanks for the heads up as I won’t be buying the X3…. Onward to find a new replacement! Great review.
Wow, like the new lighting effects.
Love this channel.
I have two pair of the x2. When I first tried it I wasn’t a fan until about 30-40 miles. Now I like it enough to have just purchased the second pair. Love the upper on it. The only complaint of the x2 is the rubberized EVA sole. I land on the outside edge a bit and it looks like I took a belt sander to it after 75 miles. I was worried about the x3 and the stretch of the upper with a stiffer carbon plated platform.
I love the fit and ride on the carbon x3 I have a high volume foot and this is the only hoka shoe that fits true to size
I think the x3 is one that either fits or doesn’t. Luckily it fits me just right
That ASICS shirt is FIRE 🔥
That’s 0 for 3 (?) with Hoka road shoes so far this year. Someone needs to grab the wheel and turn that ship around!
I have Cliftons for recovery runs but for everything else, I defer to the comfort *and* durability of New Balance and ASICS.
Bummer, especially after loving the Carbon X 2. Do you think there's a chance that the shoe could be "good" for those lucky individuals that just happen to fit perfectly into the upper (w/o a need for Puckerberging?)?
Possibly
Here in Baltimore (where you are at too) it's cold which has an impact on the foam. How do you factor that in when testing shoes in the winter?
Treadmill, also January had some 60° days and some chilly temps
A Hoka shrine? I dig.
My only experience with hoka as a 18 month runner is the Clifton 7’s and I’m sure I won’t be wearing another hoka shoes until they change the outsole and midsole material, it was dead at 50 miles.
I told my mom and she said "what's TH-cam"?
love the reviews but can you confirm for em. what is believe in the run? is it a running store in the US or just a review company? thanks enjoy your day
We are running culture reviewers. Companies send us product to review. We interview athletes on the podcast and talk about running nonsense. We are not a shoe store.
@@Believeintherun ahh i thought you mightve been. gg
Then, hello! heavily discounted multicolored Hoka Carbon X2! 😃
Welp, just bought a pair 😬 (they were 160€ on sale though)
Please do review with Megan and Brandon Thom. I think Robe dislikes all new release shoe.
Recommendations for a good 6mm or lower drop shoe? Enjoy the drop on hokas just not the durability and currently looking for something different.
Typically we don’t care about drop. If the shoe feels good through the stride, 10, 6, 4, 0mm doesn’t matter.
Asics glideride, I'm fairly heavy with moderate supination, and manage 19 min 5ks in the glideride2, it's amazing
Profly X or Profly+ ? carbon x3
I liked the X2 for long runs... Sounds like this is one to give a miss.
I loved the X2 but guess my foot has more volume because I wanted a few more mm.
“G-unit..” 🤦🏾♂️ 😂 emotions at the same time
An asics guy reviewing a hoka pair..okaayy 😂
They have them for 120 now... it still doesnt worth?
Should be good for wide footers like myself
Such a shame that another HOKA underwhelms! What do you think HOKA need to do to get back on track? (Better foams? A new model?)
A better upper would have gone a long way with this one.
I really enjoyed the x2 🤷🏽♂️.
X 2 is a great shoe
Ehhhh wait for NB 1080
What diver is Thomas wearing???
Hoka shoes just don’t work with me. Either toe box is too restrictive (mach 4, enjoy the midsole btw), or arch is too high (all other models). I have wide feet with low arches.
Same with me. But for me the Arahi is my go to since day one! Or you could try the Bondi or Bondi X those two are for my long distance slow pace run.
If the knit does not fit you must ….
Do you guys happen to bump into Omar or McNaulty when you run?
Omar is dead. We play cards with McNaulty, good dude.
@@Believeintherun jeez, I am in the middle of season 4 and Omar is still alive! I should have shut my mouth.
@@RunnerRemRem in real life the actor passed away. 😢
@@jarrettw7753 yes I knew that. I just hope that Omar, the character, makes it to the end of the show.
이런 제품은 왜? 미드탑이던 하이탑이던 없는걸까요?
'NO'ka, That's It..
You don't believe in this run 😂
The Upper Looks like a recycled hand knitted grandmother Plaid….:-)))))
Again a totally Hoka fail…Thats it!
Great shoe ugly color
