  • As of the making of this video there is tremendous hype surrounding the Tatula and Tatula Type R reels from Diawa. As is turns out the Tatula series of rods is quite a nice piece of fishing hardware in itself. Utilizing a very light graphite and manufacturing process allows the 6' 10" MH/F casting rod to clock in at 3.7oz's. This is due to Diawa's SVF graphite technology trickling down from the flagship Steez model. The rod has plenty of power and an aggressive, fast action with great sensitivity to boot. As well as performing solidly this series of rod was also designed with a heavy emphasis on aesthetics. The custom reel seat, textured blank, and knurled end cap & reel clamp all come together superbly. If you are looking for a solid do-anything rod this offering from Diawa is very competent.

    Thanks man! One thing I didn't stress very much in the review is how light the rod is. It comes in at 3.7oz, and just feels incredibly light in hand.

    Thank you! My favorite so far is the Eagle Claw weighted swimbait hooks. I have used about six other brands so far, and the Eagle Claw comes out on top. It has a wider offset/gap than most, is plenty sharp, and it very well priced. The main thing for me though it the bite of the hook and the Eagle Claw really offer a great gap, which with a fat bait like the Swing Impact Fat is critical for consistent hook-ups.

    I used my Tatula Rod 6'6" with Tatula Reel today for the second time, casted a 3/8oz. jerkbait and during the throwout the tip snapped and broke off. I'm pretty disapointed but i suggest that this was the cause of a fabrication error, neither did i misuse the rod nor were there any faults in transportation or handling. Hope i get a new one in exchange. The good Points of this Rod is the nice bottom contact, the feedback to the lure(used 8braid) and the the fast taper. one bad thing though was ,that when there is a lot of pressure on the rod, the line touches the blank from the first up to the third guide ring, that's quite a messy engineering(if there is any) from daiwa.(my opinion).
    But thanks for your Video, enjoyed it watching :)

    For the 4.8 Keitech Swing Impact Fat use the 5/0....Keitech recommends a 4/0 hook, but the 4/0 Eagle Claw Lazer just doesn't have enough gap to it. The weight is dictated by the depth you want to fish & the speed of retrieve. I usually use a 1/8oz because I am typically fishing this bait relatively shallow. Plus, you can always add a bullet weight on the front when you want to fish deeper.

    Tough questions man....that hinges solely on what you / I consider "average". I can only compare it to what I have experience with....mostly Falcon's. I mention Abu Garcia Veritas and St. Croix Mojo Bass in the video as well. I consider those "average" performing rods of average weight and average sensitivity. As compared to them the Tatula is definitely a lighter series of rod. I would rate the sensitivity as equal to my Falcon's, better than the Veritas and much better than the Mojo Bass.

    Now that you've had the rod for almost a year now, how would you rate it? Also, would you recommend this rod for 3/8oz spinnerbaits and bladed swim jigs?

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      After a year of use I found I like this rod best for jigs and worms. It IS a good do-everything rod, but what stands out most to me is the really powerful backbone (rated to 1oz) and the fast tip. It "feels" like it was made for bottom contact as well as power to set the hook either in heavy cover or deep water. Apart from that I am still impressed by the excellent build and feel in hand. Just an FYI the inside of the reel screw down is lined with a plastic so it does not scratch your reel's foot. For those 3/8oz spinnerbaits and swim jigs it will totally do the job, but I find that in terms of casting distance it doesn't load up fully until your at 1/2oz or higher. If your going to be fishing those lures and weights a lot I think the medium power model in 7ft might actually be the better match.

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dddyah - no, upon using it the past few years I can say it is best with heavier lures....namely 1/2oz to 1oz. Its a pretty fast action. I'm not sure how good you are at skipping, but I find it easier with more moderate rods that load deeper into the blank. Its a great rod, just maybe not ideals for that specific task.

    How is the 7"1' medium heavy cranking rod feel? Do you like the grip on these or does it force your hand into an awkward position underneath the seat? Any breakage issues? I know you prefer the TCS Okuma rods how would you compare the two?

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Steve-
      I have only felt that rod in store....not actually used it on the water. But, you can generally ascertain a pretty good idea from feeling the flex points and taper in the store. Having said that it appears to be really nice for somewhat heavier/larger cranks. The reel seat/grip is fine. I personally don't find it awkward or uncomfortable. It is pretty narrow. I think most people prefer that because it makes the overall size of the rod on the reel feel smaller, but some prefer meatier feel in hand. No breakage issues and I can't remember hearing of any in forums or word of mouth. I actually don't prefer the TCS over the Tatula, or vise versa. I think they are both really super rods. I remember I got my TCS for a bit less than $100 online, and they have a lifetime warranty. So considering that it may be the better value. But, performance wise its apples vs apples. Both great rods just different manufacturers names on them.

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul - this one will suit you well. I can't speak for all the other sizes/actions/powers, but this 6'10 is rated up to 1oz and it really handles that heavier end of its rating (3/4-1oz) very well.

    Another great review with what appears to be a top notch product. I also own a Diawa T3 Ballistic 7:1.1 ratio too. I just paired that reel with this rod in the store today. I was very impressed how light this combo was. Do you feel this combo would be a great technique specific jig and worm combo? Also im heavily considering a 13 Fishing omen black rod vs this rod. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is exactly what I'll be doing with mine (Tatula 6'10" paired to T3 Ballistic). This 6'10" is rated up to 1oz lures, and man you feel it. Super stout backbone and a nice fast action. I see it's forte being jigs 1/2 and up. I plan to punch with it as well using my 1oz punch rigs. The T3 feels great on anything, but even more so on this Tatula rod with its slim EVA grip and subtle trigger. Lastly, I love how I can engage the reel without switching hands because of the pop up hood....its functional and fun!

    • @FFJNVT
      @FFJNVT 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      KeepinItReelFishing Have you ever considered tuning/upgrading your Ballistic? These reels are great but not the most smooth in retrieving. Im hearing guys are taking these apart and adding ceramic bearings with great results. Aside from the obvious spool bearing upgrade there is a worm gear bearing upgrade. Replacing the washer with a ceramic bearing improves the cranking and smoothness. Guys are saying they are casting 1/4 lures much farther by swapping the factory bearings and going with ceramic. I guess they have less start up inertia

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure Lois. I have used 1oz set-ups for punch heavy cover. But, I have never really swung hard (far cast) with that kind of weight on. It is rated up to 1oz though and it certainly feels quite capable of that. I would take whatever crank you want to use and just start off casting at maybe 50% effort, then increase it up cast by cast. You can generally feel when you are really over stressing a rod.

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Miller - This model is really nice for bottom contact for sure. And its very stout! You really feel the backbone of its 1oz max lure rating. It is light and crisp. I can only compare it against what I've spent time with and for me that would be a few Falcon rods (Cara, Lowrider and Buccoo). Falcon's are very sensative across the board, but if you are looking for something particularly powerful and robust this model from Daiwa is a great choice. After fishing it a lot more since this review I can say its not a super caster, but I love it for jig fishing, texas rigged anything, punching, and frog fishing.

    • @patrickcork1846
      @patrickcork1846 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your a good man brother. Also those Falcons are USA made which makes a HUGE difference of course. I don't think the Tatula reels are worth the hype..........period. The Pflueger Supreme XT is the casting reel to beat @ the price point! The Tatula rods on the other hand, well............they seem to be really bad ass and worth the hype(especially if you find one discounted. Blessings brother.
