Ultimately I don’t care what you call yourself or what you call me, as long as you don’t dictate to me what words I should or shouldn’t use to describe myself, or attack me for using a word that’s offensive to you but not to me

      Oh neat jargon
I guess the British influence in India is a huge factor in why Indians (and other brown Asians) are the default Asian. I heard that the curry restaurants are quite common in the UK. They might be as populous as Chinese takeout shops in the US

I understand your view as I was born and raised in the UK and noticed this.
I grew up using the word Asian to refer to South Asian and West Asian people (west asians are usually called middle eastern). But I grew up to understand people from the Far East are also Asian even if for most of my life they werent included as Asian in the UK.
So you are just as much Asian as me. We just different types. But I agree on that O-word isnt offensive here and its only really the US influence thru the internet and pop culture that it made the younger UK generation copy that.

@@Epic_Amir_Hamza I remember filling forms when I was younger where the terms often varied, so I’ve had to tick the Oriental box, or sometimes Chinese, but one time I ticked Asian and my teacher told me that was wrong 😂

I think that’s just a UK thing. The entire rest of the world thinks East Asian when u say Asian.

@@DonnieWong72 Where exactly is "the orient" from the UK's viewpoint? From what you call "oriental" I would guess East Asia, but then, having lived in East Asia for many years, I've yet to hear one person use the term "oriental".

Crazy how we use terms to categorize people based on continental identity. Never used Asian to refer to Jews or Arabs. Or European to refer to the Russians or Turkish.

I mean, Turkish people themselves generally don't like to be referred to as Europeans anyway since 98% of the country is in Asia. I've always heard people call ethnic Russians Europeans though, but not Russian people who are ethnically from Siberia

East Asians, south asians, west asians, south East Asians, we are ALL asians. they are pitting us against each other and dividing us, and we should not let that happen. Don't fall for it. We may have our differences, but we are still all asians.
