Looks exactly like my guitar! Except I have a regular tail piece and mine is an 86 that I bought in 89 for $550. Tim Shaw pickups. Mine has the crack in the neck joint, but it's only in the finish or it would have been a problem years ago. It used to be that color, but it's been in a lot of smokey bars and she turned yellow over the years. I replaced the Kluson tuners with gold Grovers because the Klusons wore out. The original ABR bridge was replaced with a gold Nashville because I dropped it and never found all the pieces. It was actually a gift after using a bridge I had on a Les Paul copy. You can still see the difference in the color where I changed the tuners. It's been my main guitar for the last 35 years. Dude wanted to trade me mine for one of those Les Pauls with the robotic tuners. I said no, I can tune my guitar just fine. It's going to stay my guitar God willing until the day I leave this world. I wish I had the money to buy this 61 that mine is a reissue of.
Les Paul's name stopped being used because he was no longer a popular recording artist as he had been prior to 1952 and the first first years of the model. He simply was not offered an endorsement contract. In 1968, when he again became an endorser for the original Les Paul design, it was because the original 50's design became sought-after from 1965 until this day. The story that Gibson dropped him because they no longer saw value in his name in '68 then became inconvenient. Also, it should be noted that Ted Macarty, who had been president in 1962 when this decision to drop Les Paul was made, retired from Gibson in 1966. Les Paul accepted because he, by this time, had virtually disappeared from popular music. It was the only big thing going on for him.
This guitar probably got a continuous dose of humidity down in Miami, so that mahogany didn't have a chance to dry out, which causes those breaks. The OOP is the best sound there is on these.
Mine has a crack there, but it's only in the finish. It was there when I bought it 35 years ago. If it wasn't just in the finish, it would have been a problem years and years ago.
THE most beautiful electric guitar ever made.

I think Ryo Yamada from Bocchi the Rock uses that bass.
❤
Shipping is also a problem due to neck joint design..
Cool guitar, but horribly designed by Gibson"……so many are repaired at the neck joint..

@@ericbitzer5247 just don’t bump it or drop it….
@@chrishartz2397 I'm always careful with her. I try to keep her in as best shape as possible despite being well used in smokey drunken bars.
