I’m so happy I found your channel. I was asked why I watch canning and cooking channels since I’ve been canning for over 50 years (my grandma taught me when I first got married), I liken it to a NASCAR driver. Even though you’ve been driving for decades, you still watch the races with other drivers. Learning never stops, and I love canning.

EXACTLY! I also always learn something, or get reminded of something I already learned way back but have forgotten about. Same with the gardening, sewing, woodworking and crafting videos. Sometimes I get some seed of inspiration too. Those times are the BEST!

I tried every trick people told me to get our fresh eggs to peel. Salt, vinegar, baking soda, unicorn dust, nothing worked. They still looked like Edward Scissorhands peeled them. Husband got me an Instantpot and now I do them all in it. Perfect peel every time.

If you have a instapot put your eggs set your eggs out for 15 to 30 mins to warm up put them on the rack that came with your pot. put 1 1/2 cups of water in put the lid on, set the pressure on high for 5 mins. When done wait 5 mins then release the value. open up and put in cold/ice water for 5 mins. then peel. So nice.

After you crack the egg all the way around. Try rolling the egg in the palms of your hands together lightly. Palm up, other hand palm down, put egg in between and roll gently. My Mama taught me this will help make the shell come off? Try it Mrs. Homestead, I hope it helps you. Usually works on the cooled eggs in ice water like you do. I absolutely love you and your videos! I have learned so much from you! I wish I could find a homestead her in North Central Florida. Pickled eggs are amazing to have on hand because you can quickly throw together potato salad, egg salad, etc or put in your salads. You don’t always have to eat pickled eggs. There are lots of options to use them for.

Hello HOMESTEAD HEART, My wife steams her eggs for 15 minutes, then turns off the heat, then moves the eggs to cold water till eggs were cold, Then she peeled egg shells off with great ease. My wife Bev, said; the eggs peel so much better steamed, than boiled. Maybe someone else on here does the same? .......................Bev & I enjoy your videos, thank you for sharing them and your knowledge.

Egg shells? grind them, or crush them. Place around your plants to deter deer, insects. Plus a bonus, the calcium is beneficial for plants.

I'm going to have to give your method a try. I like spicy also, not quite as spicy as Mr. HH (Seriously, pepper flakes, Louisiana AND fresh jalapenos?) I think I'll ease into it with just some pepper flakes and Louisiana and work up to it. LOL I have been pickling eggs my whole adult life. I learned as a very young boy from my Grandma who taught me to make Red Beet Pickled Eggs. In the spirit of "each one, teach one" I'd like to share.
    Grandma's Red Beet Eggs.
1 gallon glass jar with lid,
    1 - 2 dozen hard boiled eggs.
    1 gallon white vinegar
    1/4 cup salt
    1 can pickling spice
    a few bay leaves
1 large can of sliced red beets OR 2 fresh medium beets, sliced and boiled until tender, save your beet liquor.
1-2 medium/large yellow onions sliced, not diced.
In a 2 qt. or larger sauce pan add 1 qt. of vinegar, your salt, pickling spice and bay leaves. Bring to rolling boil, turn off heat and set aside to cool. Once cool add this mix to your 1 gallon glass jar, then layer in some beets slices and liquor, onion slices then some of your eggs. You want to layer them in to be sure it is well blended throughout the jar. Keep layering until all your ingredients adding the remaining vinegar to cover each layer as you go until the jar is full and ingredients are used up. If your liquid isn't evenly colored with beet juice put on the lid and gently invert it a couple three times to mix.
Same rules for storage apply, into the fridge minimum 2 weeks. These are great on their own, make the most awesome egg salad or added to your favorite potato salad. I've haven't considered as Mrs. HH suggested of varying my ingredients. I don't see why this recipe couldn't be modified to suit your tastes with herbs, spices etc. Once your first batch of eggs are all gone, you can add a second batch to the same pickle and give them an additional week (3 total) before eating.
Thanks again for all you do at Homestead Heart, you two are a joy and a blessing.

Thank you for making this video. It's always great watching you have fun doing whatever you do!
At age 70, I've boiled quite a few eggs, quite a few different ways. The best way of ensuring your eggs peel easily, especially if they are FRESH eggs, is to get your water boiling first and THEN place them in the boiling water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove them from the water and place them in cold or iced water for 5 or so minutes then crack them and peel them. The shell peel off so smoothly and the eggs look great! This is the best method I've found so far! Give it a try!

The best tip I have for fellow chicken keepers: Peeling FRESH eggs is easiest for me if I put them is a big plastic bowl of ice cubes and a little water, seal the lid on tight and shake pretty hard for a bit. This helps force the water under the membrane and they peel easier. Great videos!

I am very Blessed for finding you.. I am from Louisiana and live in Arizona. I go by Picklin Cajun and trying to get back to the wonders of my childhood.. I am canning figs today. 10 years ago I planted 2 two foot tall figs trees. I will not go through all the contortions I go through but today I am on my fourth canning and you can relate to this "I am over figs for this year"....
I have a harvest Right freeze dryer that preserves food for 25 years. I ran out of space for storage.. I do some picklin but I am about to start all over again. You are my inspiration. When you get a chance can I get with you to learn more on the eggs. Thanks so much ..By the way, I have stored over 50 quarts of eggs and about 20 half gallons. My chickens are on break right now because of the heat. Yesterday was 114 F. I have 12 chickens. Not nearly as much as you. LOL....Geri

Great video. My family loves pickled eggs so I was going to make some for gift giving. I ran across a tip that works beautifully to peel hard boiled fresh eggs. Take a heavier teaspoon and give the big end of the egg (then end with the air pocket) a quick firm (but not hard) snap with the spoon causing an indentation crack of the shell. A life saver! The shells slipped off so easily. I was absolutely amazed. Thanks for sharing your recipe and tips!

  • @donnastormer9652

Thanks for the video. If you use a ratio of 3/4 vinegar 1/4 water you don’t have to water bath for 15 minutes and you can store them outside of the refrigerator for up to three years. You just never want to poke an egg with a toothpick before putting in jars. That recipe is and lots of colonial cookbooks way before refrigeration. Hope that helps. Also if you just use a simple Brine of 3/4 vinegar 1/4 water to your eggs it really makes for wonderful egg salad and side dishes on a green salad.

Our pickled eggs are picked with pickling spice and beets with the beet juice instead of water. They turn a reddish color. We pickle them close to Easter. Oh and we don't refrigerate them just set them on the counter for a couple weeks until the eggs get colored

ALSO: Wouldn't they make great gifts at Christmas for some of the special men in your life? It would be so pretty with a pretty homemade label, ribbons, and a bow!!! ❤🎄❤

I just tried this about 10 minutes ago, I saw it on another channel by accident this morning. After boiling the eggs put them in your cold water for about a minute then back in the boiling water for 20 seconds and then back in the cold. I tried it with a lot of skepticism as I have tried so many "tricks" over the last 15 yrs. I used eggs laid this morning and I never do it any other way EVER AGAIN!! The shells slid off. I am completely in shock 😲..I am totally impressed and shocked!!!!

I have yard eggs and I steam my fresh eggs. I steam with a lid for 20 minutes then run cold water over them. Those eggs jump out of the shells. Its the best way for me that I've learned for fresh eggs. Me and Mr. Homestead Heart totally agree on the hot sauce. Nothing compares to Louisiana Hot sauce, its the best ever!
