      Audrey Hepburn was incandescent. Problem was she had about as much chemistry with Humphrey Bogart as she would have had with a cheese sandwich. He was a terrible choice for a romantic lead. He always struck me as a sad hound dog of a man with very little changes in facial expression.

      @@welcometothemovies9157 Well, both movies are of the same genre, and both follow a trope that is so many times used in Westerns, so I agree, but then again, I bet we can find a dozen other Western movies in which a "stranger" arrives, a stranger who is an excellent gunslinger and delivers justice, and at the end that stranger rides his horse toward the sunset... That is a typical Western, something people enjoyed watching, and so many times the stranger was an antihero who looks intimidating, and is scary and deadly, but for those who are "bad".

      It is arguably an adaptation of the story, but it is definitely not a remake. Just having a few thematic/plot similarities doesn’t make it a remake.

The 80's version of The Thing is scarier and more intense, but the 1951 is really good. The 1995 Sabrina is very enjoyable, but it has an unsolvable problem: Juia Ormond is not Audrey Hepburn. Not her fault, of course, but that's why no Audrey Hepburn movie should be remade.

    Ransom. The original with Henry Fonda and Leslie Nielsen just sort of ended with the boy showing up at home after the broadcast where the father said what he was going to do with the money the kidnapper was asking for ransom. You never even find out who the kidnapper was. The remake with Mel Gibson, Renee Russo and Gary Sinise was much deeper and carried the story through to the end, with a nice twist along the way

    not old hollywood to start with but i enjoyed watching the remake of Suspiria way more than the original one, the og one is obv stunning and genre-defining but it hasn't aged that well imo, adn the fact that they went for the coplete opposite aesthetically-wise made things v interesting

    I think this is the first time I've ever heard of the 1995 Sabrina being considered better than the '54 original. Ford and Ormond didn't have much chemistry, either. And the original version isn't a "cult classic." Cult classics can't have been both critical and commercial successes when they were first released which Sabrina (1954) was.

  • @Gettingoffthestrugglebus
    @Gettingoffthestrugglebus ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would argue most people don’t prefer the 1995 “Sabrina” over the 50’s one…I love Audrey but I do prefer the 1995 one myself but always thought I must be a piranha

    True grit is barely a remake - remakes are supposed to have a feel and atmosphere of their own. The whole (2010) version is almost a complete copy (acting and costumes included), aside from a couple "new" scenes and an added ending. I was disappointed.

    Okay whoever thought "Logan" was better than "Shane" must have been on something to think that it is. Most people don't remember "Logan" but as soon as you mention "Shane" everybody knows what movie you are talking about. Same goes with "Sabrina" and "3:10 to Yuma" where the original is still the best version and the more memorable versions.

    Definitely prefer the 1999 Mummy to the 1932 film. While it’s hard to surpass Boris Karloff’s Frankenstein, Bela Lugosi’s Dracula and Claude Raine’s Invisible Man, I feel like the 1999 Mummy film is one of the RARE times the original Universal Monster is totally eclipsed by the remake. Plus, watching the original after watching the 1999 series made me miss the action and corniness of that series.

    Are you kidding? Just because the updated film has more explosions, gore and violence doesn't mean it's better than the original. I particularly object to you including Shane in this list. It's not my most favorite film, but it's up there and it''s a classic - as good as they come. You can't beat the cast, locations, script.

    • @georgeray1906
      @georgeray1906 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah and be honest both versions of the same film featured here like The Mummy, The Fly and Little Shop of Horrors can be enjoyed due to how different they are from each other as well as how some remakes can stand on their own feet without relying on their predecessor like John Carpenter's The Thing for example.

  • @106andie

    Everybody has different opinions but I personally prefer The Sabrina Remake Than The Original mainly because of The Dialogue and The Chemistry between the two leads. I feel I would’ve loved the Original more if William Holden would’ve played Linus, since he had way more chemistry with Audrey Hepburn compared to Humphrey Bogart.

  • @bheast86

    THE MUMMY is more a (weak) attempt at Indiana Jones than remaking the Universal.
    LOGAN may evoke lines from SHANE but doesn't remake it - leading children to safety is more THE PIED PIPER.
    Lady Gaga is more remaking Streisand than Janet Gaynor, and the top A STAR IS BORN is always going to be Judy.
    There had been two version of THE MALTESE FALCON in the 1930s; the 1941 one must be the best of all remakes.
    TRUE GRIT 2010 has the good fortune to appear when Westerns were a relative rarity; the 1969 one was taken too much for granted.
