I think the devs wanted to remove the M249 but can’t due to it having skins in the game, so they created the new inventory system so they don’t really “remove” weapons but shine the spotlight on possibly new weapons being added to the game.
I'm glad that the skins existing force them to keep it tbh. I'd definitely miss it, nothing wrong with having a weapon or two that's just there for a little bit of extra flavor once in a blue moon.

Damn, I intentionally bought M249's sometimes. Does that make me a masochist?
Maybe increase bullet penetration, or make them more effective vs smokes creating giant holes in smokes like shotguns do but from any range.
It would be cool if they lessened the recoil and increased damage. So the gun could act as an anchor type of weapon where its good at holding once spot down but has little movement.

I remember m249 in CS 1.6 felt like an AK with 100 bullets.
That is good for me.
A good use case for the M249 is to spray in the head of your teammates at the start of a matchmaking. Usually, you start the game on a good note while doing that, the noice is very relaxing and the sound when you get TK'd in the head by the M249 puts you in a good mood for the game
been saying it a lot but they should just slap the old stats of the original negev on it and maybe make the movement speed a bit better
I never understood why the negev was cheaper, considering it's an exotic weapon irl, and it's much more useful despite it being a one trick pony for suppression, and ironically the m249 is the most common lmg used by western countries. I reckon reworking the m249 to have a 60/120 magazine instead of belt, easier standing spray, but the worst running accuracy. As well as make the negev the expensive option, both would actually have a use while being distinct stat wise. Pretty much how Valorant's LMGs are, which pains me to say is one thing they got right.
i really miss the good old Negev, with that high fire rate and high recoil, it wasn't the most viable for competitive but was the most fun weapon to play with
It was insanely good for deathmatch, you could just tap-spray someone and get kills easier.. The fire rate was so high that you could just hit double headshots while tapping.. But honestly I just prefer it nowadays, its even more funnier for CT side.

One thing most games miss is that the fire rate can be adjusted on an MG. So its RPM is expressed as a range, rather than a fixed volume, and I have never seen this adjustment implemented.
M249 needs a drastic change. So how about making it 1 tap in the head, but also give it a stand that reduces spread if manage to hold a position with a low wall in front of you (mirage window, bench, market). Would make it interesting the way the negev is interesting
that is interesting. i don't think it needs a one tap to head. especially if you increase it's accuracy. but as long as it has good fire rate. there were stands in Day of defeat mod and Firewarms mod back in the day. while standing they worked well, but once the character could duck with it and deploy it it created all sorts of hit box issues. we keep fixing those. i am not saying it won't work to have it like that, but it would need some extra work and testing. so 0 mobility and increase accuracy with 100 bullets to spare. really interesting idea.
Make it 4000$ with one headshot kill and a slightly better recoil and we might see it in ct side

Sniper is a bolt action. Not Automatic. If you miss 1 shot then you get immediately Punished.
Giving a LMG which can 1 shot you and Same time has 100 bullets per mag is dumb idea and will break the game...You will literally make the financially stronger team much more OP and give no room for the Weaker economy team to make a comeback.
Imagine you are leading by 5-0 and the whole Team has a loadout of Automatic 100 round 1 shot machine. Yeah really good idea 🤣
Your last point about different game modes is actually a very good one, certain weapons like the bison or auto snipers or p90 certainly seem more at home in casual or dm modes
Ive seen this suggested before, but make the M249 and Negev exactly the same, but one for Ts and other for Cts. Kinda lazy but veeeeery easy fix.

MGs today are really used with a scope and a bi-pod for accuracy and stability. As mentioned, they are for fighting from a fixed position.

I'll say that with CS2 loadouts, potential new weapons and utility landing into the game, and a little bit of polish the gun may find its place in the future.
i am curious if people used the m249 in cs 1.6 because when i was young and played that game it was my favourite weapon (but obviously i knew nothing about the game back than, i just thought its a cool weapon)

yeah man i always wondered about that lol i mean i can understand the negeve and it even have good situations like supression fire etc and its only 1700 but why should i buy that weapon over autosniper or awp?
In a combat context, the MG is used against vehicles and emplacements or barricades. Most of CS:GO is more of a police/CT role; typically cops don't use MGs. Collateral damage and legal liability seem to be ignored in the game.
I think if they made the recoil a laser beam like the negev, but istead of it kicking in after like 10 bullets, maybe after 3, or instantly, people would actually use it...
They should give it one tap headshot at all range like AK and more consistent spray (not easier)

Damage buff, when u shoot through a smoke or walls get insta kills, and more penetration, like awp bullets, would be fun and interesting, tbh I’ll buy it if it’s op😉

The bizon, sawed off, CZ and nova all need buffs too
The Bizon is almost okay... it is surprisingly effective when you run and gun, much better than the P90. Sawed Off needs a buff, I agree, so does Nova. CZ-75... a little more pleasant recoil would do it. The gun got nerfed so much it's barely even used anymore.
@@mediumplayer1 No, the bizon is not usable. If you ever buy a bizon over an mp9 or mac10 you are trolling. I wouldn't even buy a bizon against a 5 man glock round. Ya, the CZ just needs slightly less recoil, a $300 kill reward and maybe some more reserve ammo. There's literally no reason for the CZ having a $100 kill reward.

the only solution is to turn M249 into another high-risk high-reward weapon. Increase the armor penetration, make the recoil goes straight vertical for 30 continuous fires but dramatically increase the horizontal recoil after that.

I honestly believe you do not need to modify any of the weapons, feel, function or bullet count. You can balance the game purely by cost. I don't know what that cost needs to be, but it is way to high atm.

I say double it's rate of fire and turn it into a gatling gun, and maybe reduce the cost a bit. Prob still wont be viable, but certainly will be more fun.

It should one tap. It’s on both teams, it’s just a downgrade for T’s if you make it so.
If it one shot’ed enemies, you would see it used because it could be tapped.

The M249 has decent damage, solid armor penetration and a shit ton of ammo. But it's only modest improvements if any over the assault rifles. It has higher DPS to the body than an AK because of fire rate, but an AK can one shot a helmeted enemy. The M249 may have less recoil than the AK, but it has more than the M4. And the little advantages you get are nerfed by your predictable, bulky movement. So why pick it up when it is not particularly useful for any situation and it costs $5,200? Why buy it when the faster-firing laser beam is your $1,700 alternative?
It seems like the M249 is supposed to be sort of like a Negev in play, but a bit more versatile and rifle like. So I think it would make sense to reduce the recoil. Sure, the M249 has plenty of ammo for when you miss your shots. But CS:GO does not have plenty of time for you to miss shots. Most aim duels are gonna last less than a second. I do think they should keep the inaccuracy as is. Afterall, it is a machine gun with 100 bullets ready to be fired. It shouldn't just be an upgraded M4. But I think it should have less recoil than the M4. Then it would have menacing accuracy at close to medium range, but it would still be terrible at long range. Maybe slightly up the movement speed to adjust for close-quarters rifle playstyle. Maybe even slightly up the kill reward? Now I hope they do change the M249. Lol

I think they should lower it's recoil to non existent and improve the first bullet accuracy/spread and buff the damage. Sure it would be broken but for $5200 I ain't buying anything less then broken.

I use it sometimes as is pretty much a Famas with more bullets. sadly it’s too expensive to consider buying it with less than a 5 round advantage

I sometimes use the m249 and I found that running and gunning with that thing at close and medium range is much better then just standing still and shooting, Got like a lot kills in a single round by doing that.
In other hand Negev is better but you become a sitting duck once you start firing and it takes time for the bullets to be a laser.

The recoil is idiotic. On the few occasions I missclicked and bought it and tried to stick with it it was unplayable. Damage is pathetic and the recoil is just dumb.
