    Very useful, especially the bit about scenes.
    Note however that (at least in Smart Life) you need to program not only the 'slave' (WiFi and power only) switch to operate the 'master' (the wired switch that actually operates the lights), as you showed, but also vice versa; otherwise the slave gets into the wrong state (out of sync) when you operate the master (as happens in your video at 15:02); you then have to press the slave twice to get a response. There are therefore 4 scenes to set up at 12:02 in the video (ON and OFF for each 2-way switch; 6 for 3-way etc.).
    It is useful to note that the same principal can be used to control a smart plug or inline smart switch (e.g. for a standard lamp) from a wall swtch.

      @@GeekStreet 13:15 is it possible to replace a switch on my 3 way switching. I took the cover plate off to decorate and lost the connection. It’s a two gang switch operating two sets of lights both on 3 way. At the moments it’s working on 2 way. I’ve kept trying to reconnect with no luck. Any help to solve this would be much appreciated. Brilliant. Thanks very much for this. I've been trying to work out how to do this with TUYA switches without a neutral. The switches work great but I never thought about using scenes. As there are only two wires going from the downstairs switch to the upstairs switch I use one of these to supply power to the upstairs switch. Works a dream.

    Thank you! I had an electrician round saying 2way can’t be done with WiFi switches as it would make the 2nd switch redundant. This explains that it can be done, and explains it well. I should have thought of this, however, as I have set up a scene for my living room so that 2 wall lights and a lamp come on at the same time - you have reminded me that scenes are the way forward!

    Hi, great videos & supper clear instructions on how to setup. Has helped me immensely. Do you have a video that shows how I can set up a smart light switch, where I have a two way dual switch in my kitchen where a switch either side of the room operates two ceiling lights? looks like the main switch is wired with live & switched live, while the other switch might be a slave to the 1st? (looks like a 3 core going from 2nd light switch up to the 1st wall switch)

    You've just answered a question I've spent the better part of a day trying to answer. Thank you.
    I'm now wondering if there's a way to disable the relay coils in the slave units (I don't like the idea of unused coils staying energised for no good reason). If that can be done then there's no reason why you couldn't buy a 4 gang switch and use it for various other home automation tasks such as setting alarms or switching remote relays.
    I'm also wondering if this can be done with Z wave or Zigbee to get around the wifi requirement. I'd imagine so.

    Great video thanks and solved my question, but produced a new question. Having setup the 2 scenes to turn on and off my lights in Smart Life app the lights are now constantly repeating the on/off routine. Would you know if this is happening as a result of a wiring fault or a configuration in the app? Thanks.

    Hi, I have this set up and it has been working fine. One thing I have noticed, is I cant replicate this scene method using voice. So, if i tell Alexa to 'hall switch 1 off' which when using the Scene sets the state of Hall switch 1 to off (Hall light off) and Landing switch 2 to off also, Landing switch 2 remains in an on state (though of course the Hall light has gone off). This means if I now want to turn on the Hall light using Landing switch 2, i have to press Landing switch 2 once to get it into an off state, and then again to get it into an On state. Any ideas how to ruun the whole scene using Alexa?

    • @GeekStreet
      @GeekStreet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have to get a neutral wire run to enable you to connect it. In new build houses the junction is at the light switch location so it's easy to get a neutral wire, more of a hassle in older houses. Hope that helps.

      NO, It's a independent switch. If you wire The Lights from L1 & L2 To L3. All three switches will act as one.

    I have a very similar light set up as your video , 3 switch down stairs it operates 1. Outside light 2. Hall light 3 . Upstairs light . I have a 1 switch upstairs for upstairs light , and a 1 switch in the other end of the hall for hall light . My question is , can these be wired as normal , and programmed like your video to work as a "scene" but still physically work OR do I only need a live and neutral to 2 of the switches and use the 3 switch as the"Master" switch and programme the 2 single switches in a scene ?? I hope you understand what i mean !!

    I have a 3 gang switch. The two outer buttons will be controlled by scenes, and the plan is to use the centre button (physically connection) to control lights over my bar. When I connect the physical switch to L2 (for centre button)it does not work. When I connect the physical switch to L1 it works. Why does L2 doesn’t work on its own without anything connected to L1?

    Can both an upstairs hall light and downstairs hall light be fully wired into the circuit and still be usable on a 2 way circuit or does one have to have to be fully wired and the other just a power supply ?

    • @GeekStreet
      @GeekStreet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is just a 1 way switch and it can't be wired as a 2 way circuit. So each one would be is wired for the floor its on so if the internet goes down your not stuck. Then use scenes to control for the other floors.

      I bought a 2-gang 2-way smart switch (before seeing this) and can’t see how it could be 2-way as there is only a single neutral and single live in the unit. This could not work across 2 circuits.
      I like your idea! I will use the switch I bought using your config. One (stupid) question, for the second power-only switch in the 2-gang this does not have to be on the same circuit as the light it controls correct? It just needs power to be controllable by WiFi.

    • @GeekStreet
      @GeekStreet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's right for the second switch you only need WiFi and it doesn't matter what circuit it's on. As the smart scene will control it.
