Originally from the UK, but grew up here in Canada, I have never understood racism, I guess that my parents never told me that people were different in any way. My best friends in Junior High were indigenous, I only realized that when thinking back to my childhood. It is unfortunate that people are taught hatred, it comes in many forms, and it is tragic. Without skin, we all look pretty much the same. The way I have always looked at it is that you should never hate anyone, and if they give you a reason to, then you need to question as to why you have these feelings and try to fix them. If you can't resolve them, you should still love them, because as with Mrs. Thompson, people can change. If only everyone in the world would start acting like this, it would be so much a better place. I think some politicians need similar stories, being divided on anything, can cause nothing but problems. Thank you for this story, it needs a lot more views, especially from the Mrs. Thompsons of the world. Cheers. 😎
That happens to my family once. We had around 25 church youth in our house singing to the Lord. We were new in the neighborhood. Our neighbor was a witch. We didn’t know. When the police came. My mother asked them to come inside. They started singing with us. They told us to keep singing until 10:00 pm. It was only 6:00 pm. They told us, world need people like us to keep the youth out of trouble. They told the neighbor not to call them if is not pass 10:00pm

@wesleyBringsOtter This is probably going to be a dumb question, because you have clearly stated that you are Sioux and I am about to ask about Navajo, but fortune favors the bold, so here it goes. Given your age--and I mean no insult whatsoever by that--and the fact that you’re Native American, did you know any of the World War II Codetalkers when they were still alive? My mom had the honor of accidentally meeting one under not-exactly-ideal circumstances (he thought a breach of security had been committed, causing a very brief scare). When she was out west, when she learned a certain man she was crossing paths with was a Navajo, she went right up to him and asked if he knew any Codetalkers. “Ma’am, that information was classified until just a year ago. How do you know about them?” he interrogated her. Without any hesitation, Mom answered, “Uncle Larry told me all about them when I was a kid while he was on shore leave. So, do you know any of them?” “I’m one of them,” he then replied.
I truly hate to say this but your comment only applies to you. I am of mixed heritage and while I look mostly white or Hispanic my mother was of was from a long line of mixed heritage people dating back to the time of slavery. Being who I am I have heard many white people make denigrating and disparaging comments about Black Americans to this very day, in September of 2024. As one person commented, some things have changed but many things have remained the same.
Exactly. The rise of MAGA, the mass shootings based on race, Charlottesville, and police shootings are a few examples of the state of the state of race relations in America.
