    Hello, fellow fic-writers~! To those of you asking for a video on writing epics, boy do I have a treat for you. I've recently posted two videos on how to write longfics and epic-lengths, covering both story craft and the writing process. Here's the link for your viewing pleasure: th-cam.com/play/PLzIstuFPSU2KHxX9M5EplREDshWlGnCH3.html

    The fact that names for shorter fics exist makes me feel better about me writing only short things lol

      @CoraMaria  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm glad! I know my videos show a bias towards longfics (something I'm working on) but short fics are great too! Often when I'm writing my longfics, I lament my lack of oneshot ideas haha
      Good luck with your short projects!

    I never know how to write drabble or ficlet because even if I have a very simple idea in the end it's developing into a one-shot and more than 2k words. I think it's good because it means that my mind is still can give me new ideas for even a fully outlined fic, but never can write these short ones for Twitter.

    • @CoraMaria
      @CoraMaria  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm not much of a short fic writer either, but some of my most recent ones came about from this Tumblr account that would generate a Miraculous Ladybug prompt every three hours. The ideas are usually too random to carry for more than a few thousand words. Maybe see if there's a similar prompt generating account in your fandom?
      Another ficlet I wrote recently was a Reddit post written by my villain. It was a funny spin-off crack fic where he debated the ethics of poisoning his wife on r/RelationshipAdvice. You could write something for r/AITA or r/OffMyChest as one of your characters from your fic, or even a character's canon actions. Totally up to you though.

    I think fanfiction can improve your writing skills because you analyze something so much and like so much that you write about it. Now I’ll occasionally write an original story but nothing wrong with a little fanfiction once in a while.

    ooh, interesting! i didn't know that drabbles were technically 100 words--i've always used drabble as a term for a small idea that i don't tend to spend more than a week on (that doesn't go on for more than a thousand words or so). i've also NEVER read a 5+1 and didn't know they existed
    mwahaha, then i guess according to this, i'm currently writing a collection of long-fics >:]]c it'll be a total of at LEAST 800k words (maybe even a million) and i am SUPER raring to get the first fic out this year!! it's the best part of 100k now and i've been working on it every day since the start of the year
    although i don't believe in strict definitions for word counts, i definitely learned something new from this video. thanks! :3

    I agree with drabbles being exactly 100 words - I feel like it loses its purpose being a challenge when the word is used the way it's being used now 🥲

    It's fascinating how terminology is different from one site to another 🤔 on the site where I was posting before ao3, they defined fic size by pages: drabble, mini, midi, maxi, with drabble being any word count under 1 page

    • @chornayadrakoshig
      @chornayadrakoshig 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also I love posting oneshot collections as one fic 😅 splitting them into separate fics under a series feels too much like spamming the fandom tag. But if collection includes different pairings I always put it chapter name

    A-and I could say that over time, the size of fanfics increases: the more experience, the more thousands of words, but... this is not always the case. That's how it was for me :) but some of my friends have a lot of experience, but they write drabbles.
    BTW I would be interested in watching a video about epic fanfics or any other video of yours, because for me it's like a conversation with a good friend every time! Thank you ❤

    *glances awkwardly at my 37k word oneshot
    I still stand by that decision, actually. Personally, I've never come back to a fanfic page that reloaded to the top, even if it's been days or weeks since I last opened it. Maybe that's just the browser I use, but it's convinced me that it's not very hard to leave a fic and come back to it later.
    That being said, that 37k word fic was definitely meant to be read in one sitting. There are no scene breaks or real plot beats. It was meant to be around 5k because of how little plot I planned. Turns out I had more to say than I thought...

    I would like to point out that while one shot collections don't work well on AO3, they work better on Wattpad, where you can vote on each individual chapters and can't make series, just reading lists.
