I have slowly discovered my love dor pocket pens from your videos. I never realized there were so many pocket pens out there.
I currently own an E95s (though since mine is from Japan it's branded as the Elite 95s) in the black and gold trim as opposed to your ivory and burgundy one. I did use it for awhile but stopped using it for whatever reason. What I like about the E95s is that it is the only pen I own that can use Noodler's inks without any issues. I also enjoy that the pen doesn't have a defined grip section. You can hold it at almost any position.
My only issue about the pen is that you can't really disassemble the pen(at least not safely). I would like to be able to thoroughly clean the pen. I also find the nib too soft. I end up writing a bit too broad because the nib is so soft it flexes while I write. I write with a very light hand so I doubt I'm the cause of that problem.

Everyone says that the nib on the E95s is soft and bouncy but mine is not at all. The nib is very stiff. The tines of mine are also parallel instead of gradually coming together. I wonder if this has something to do with how the nib and feed are fit together.
I'm prepping for a video that compares all the pilot pens that I own. I need to do a little research on the E95s and its nib.

...And thank you! Pocket pens were the first catagory I began to explore when I discovered fountain pens.

I ordered the E95s from Goulet yesterday in Medium nib thinking like virtually all of the Japanese nibs, that the Fine would be too fine, but after watching several videos (yours included) I’m seeing a very bold fine line. Almost like a medium. So I cancelled that order and reordered it in fine. Thanks for your great videos!
Hey, it’s about time Joost hit you up for a video about your 3 favorite pens!

Your welcome! Let me know what you think of the E95S fine nib.
Last week Appelboom asked if I would like to make a Top 3 Pens video, so I submitted one earlier this week. It's scheduled to go live on the 19th. 😀

@@gadgetstop321 yay!! How exciting!! I got my pen and cleaned it and did a preliminary test by dipping it in OS Nitrogen. Very happy I changed. Very smooth and not so fine that it didn’t show the lovely shading of the ink! Have a wonderful day!

I just purchased a jeweler's loupe from Amazon about a week ago. Now I'm obsessed with my tines being in perfect alignment ✒🤔 Ignorance is bliss!!!😅

I can see myself doing the same thing, so that's a good word of warning. I'll keep my loupe hidden away until I experience a problem.

Nice review ! Maybe it is time for a Pilot Custom 74 vs E95s vs Prera comparison to see the difference between all pilot fine nibs ?

I have a pilot E95s in a fine nib. There is no gap in the nib and it writes much finer and dryer than yours. There is a possibility your's may be defective.

I have a Pilot E95s just like yours but a Medium arriving Monday. Merry Christmas to me!

Merry Christmas to you indeed! I set my E95s out earlier today and I'm going to put ink in it later. I realized that I hadn't used it in a while.

Cathy, I purchased a pre-owned E95, in black, from the States via e-0bay. It has a Medium nib on board, but this I have found (consistently) with Pilot scribes - they write somewhat broader than their designation, & the only exception to that, is my Pilot Custom 823 (F); of all the Japanese models I own, the nib on that 823 is the smoothest, & the ink it lays down is nice & wet. For my E95, I paid $35.00 (US) -an absolute bargain, but I cannot use it unposted; capped, it's the same length as my middle finger !!
In terms of the ProGear Slim, I have the 'Blueberry' finished model with a Medium nib; it possesses more feedback, but I actually like that in a pen. Thank you for the comparison, & enjoy the remainder of your weekend,
    Andrew :)

Wow, Andrew! You got an amazing deal on your E95s.
With regards to my Pilot pens, the E95s (F) is still the only one that writes more broad than my other Pilot fine nibs. I'm considering having it's fine nib ground into a stub. Maybe that's something I could get taken care of if I'm ever able to go to a pen show. And another thing I'd like to do is try writing with a Custom 823.

Indeed, Cathy, the E95S was a real coup - don't think I've ever paid so little for a quality writing instrument. In terms of Pilot's higher end scribes, I found that my Vanishing Point (Capless) pen writes broader than its designation, but that seems to be the anomally with some of their brand. As far as the Custom 823 goes, well, it's the most exquisite Japanese fountain pen I own - smooth as silk, with a Fine nib - it's a writing experience all its own; a pump (vacuum) filler, & holds a vast quantity of ink; the only downside to Pilot, is their lack of imagination in offering different coloured barrels - they're mostly black, red or burgundy, unless you purchase their less expensive models, & then the world's your oyster, if you will. When you're looking to buy a superlative writer, then the 823 is the instrument of choice, I thoroughly recommend same; it'll alter your whole perspective between, good, bad or indifferent. Enjoy your week ahead !!
      Best,
      Andrew :)

    • @gadgetstop321

I was taught cursive in grade school and I wrote in cursive until my sophomore year in college. I took surveying and drafting classes that required me to print and I guess I started printing all the time at that point.

Having no step on the grip on ghe 95s is exactly the reason why I do have the 3 nibs sizes on it. Is buttery smooth writer, the mid size is amazing to highlight the ink shades.
I contrary of most people dont like that most fountain pen have the ugly step on the grip. Im always looking for pens without it like the pilot namiki sterling collection (i have the dragon and jaguar ones in f and ef) which have the same non steped grip (same design nib also) as the e95s
I think there is always something for everyone

    • @gadgetstop321

You talking about your E95s collection makes me want to get mine out and ink it up. My sister and I have similar tastes in fountain pens, but completely opposite tastes in nibs, so I couldn't agree more that there is something for everyone in the fountain pen hobby. 😀
