Hi..I have already gushed plenty about this pen in another of your videos where you compared it to the superb Pilot Falcon. I have both the black and burgundy E95s - both with the M nib. I’m not a big fan of Pilot’s F nibs, whether steel or gold. I love the M nib, smooth, slightly springy, wet, wide, consistent and just a delight to use. And yes, there’s a marked difference in line width between Pilot’s F and M nib, across their many pen models. To a lesser extent, the same is true for Sailor and Platinum. I just wish that I could have a vintage Elite (a few people say they write even better. Imagine that!). Also, a stub or some other special Pilot nib would be so welcome on the E95s. I’d also love a sterling silver version of this pen. At any rate, the E95s is possibly the best value on price and quite unbeatable on style and performance when it comes to first gold nib pens. Great comparison review of these chic beauties. 👍
Thank you again, friend! There you go telling me about the sterling silver one (actually my husband smiled at me and told me the same)... I am like a kid, with a Christmas list that is getting longer by the minute! A stub nib on this beauty would be AMAZING!!! I have been looking at the stub nibs on Pilots, but really, I think the CH912 with a Music nib is the next one on my list, and another Franklin Cristoph and the Gravitas Skittle - that beautiful paisley design (I say that and I will most definitely get distracted at the upcoming Pen Show- ugh!!!). I am like Doug the Dog in the Disney movie "Up" - there are way too many squirrels to chase in this hobby! The F nib is really, really nice!!! Sajjad -- are you SURE you don't need an Elite in F??? 😇
@@KitchenCounterCrafts ..I’m really fond of sterling silver in pens. I have seven pens in all-sterling body and cap finishes. Including a beautiful sterling Pilot pen with an 18k inlaid nib (the Silvern Tsumugi) which I love crazily. If I could find a sterling vintage Elite, I’d buy it, in a heartbeat. You know, Mona, you’re not half wrong to suggest the fine nib. On second thoughts, I realize that it would be a useful and fun one to own for the E95s. Too bad I already bought both the colors offered for the pen. But if Pilot decided to offer another attractive color for the pen, I’d easily buy it again, this time with the F nib, for a change and variety. Seeing you write with your pen unposted made me wish I could do so as well. I detest posting pens. Excepting a handful of my pocket pens where I’m forced to post, I never post any of my other pens. That said, the Elite does look sexier when posted. Lol.. I have bought several expensive pens this year. Been so out of control, really. The last one was a Scribo Feel with a 14k BB nib. Thrilled to pieces about it. So, you’ve decided to get the Music nib, after all. Good on you! The 912 itself is a great choice of pen. I have the 912 with the truly wonderful Waverly nib. It’s a one a kind nib. I want another Franklin-Christoph pen, too. Their music nib is great. But maybe not for daily writing of any kind. I love your enthusiasm. Doing these videos and our serve and volleying in the comments only add to the enjoyment, not to speak of new ideas and unceasing new temptations. Blame me all you want, I’ll always drop by and gab with you about anything at all. 🙂
@@sajjadhusain4146 Sterling silver -- how lovely!!! I know some might think that is too much but I truly see pens as an investment (that can actually increase in value over time) and also nostalgia. I love and appreciate the pens my friends and family have given to me as gifts and they last a lot longer than flowers. I also see them as jewelry - people have sterling silver jewelry that they don't think about, so why not have silver pens? Collector's items for sure! Scribo? I have not seen those -- I think they are well above my pay grade! Hahaha! Are they more in line with Aurora? I've "settled" somewhat on the CH912 with Music but now you've mentioned the Waverly (WA) nib. I was looking at that just because it's different. Too bad you can't switch out nibs on Pilots like you can on Franklin Cristoph. I love that about FC Pens! You've also helped me with not being scared of B or even BB nibs (although I have to take baby steps into the B nib, I just now made it to M and I have been collecting fountain pens for years)! I truly appreciate you commenting and watching my videos - I look forward to seeing what insights you have to share. My Christmas list is shaping up nicely... but the bank account???😅 Maybe you need to go back to recommending pens that are $150 or less!
@@KitchenCounterCrafts ..Yea, sterling silver is usually really cool on fountain pens. I won’t ever part with any of the silver pens I own. Not for any money at all. You did well to consider and then finally decide on the pen and music nib pairing you will buy. The 912 is a great choice. Tell me in the future how the music nib turned out. I expect it to be excellent. Scribo is a relatively new Italian brand making some fantastic pens. As with Aurora, the designs and the nibs are a big draw. And I just found out why. My newly arrived pen has me purring in delight. As long as you have decent, usable paper, and since you don’t appear to write in tiny cursive anyway, I reckon you have nothing to fear about owning and using a good broad nib or two. It will also enhance your enjoyment and appreciation for your many splendid inks. Mediums and broads just have that advantage over fine nibs. In any case, all the nib sizes have their place in the collection. If only for the sake of variety. Curb your Christmas list down to size. You’ll find me a quite hopeless source anymore for recommending too many pens in the $150 or less category. However, I always liked the steel nib Aurora Ipsilon, Aurora Style (or the Aurora Tu) pens as excellent daily performers and even value on price. If you ever consider shopping directly from Japan, the piston filling PCH 92 usually sells for under $150 (minus shipping). In the U.S. it goes for $240.
@@sajjadhusain4146 Thank you for the tip on direct shopping - any websites you recommend? I cannot believe the price difference, but it makes sense to me! My husband has been telling me to get an Aurora with a steel nib as well - he loves the performance of his Ipsilon and of course, the 88. He has his eyes set higher now though... it just happens like that, doesn't it?
@@am_ma thanks so much for watching! If you’re like me and are using regular paper, you’ll definitely get bleeding and feathering from the M nib! I take a lot of notes for work, so using nice FP paper would be expensive. Have you tried using your M fountain pen on better paper (even 24lb copy paper makes a big difference)?
Thank you for watching and asking- that’s an interesting question. Honestly, neither gives much line variation. I would say that the Medium has more of the softness but the Fine writes soooo smoothly that either one is a winner. It’s Christmas- just get both! 😂
In my experience the gives greater line variation from greater or lesser pressure; but, there is more feedback with the . For smoothness the is sublime.

Pilot medium nibs are very smooth but tend to bleed sometimes so you have to write in a faster style while using them.
Enjoyed your video. I won an E-Bay auction for a vintage Pilot Elite 18 K F nib. Won't get here until May. Looking forward to it!
Ohhhh!!! Yaaay!!!!! I’m so excited for you! Would you pleeeaaassseee do me a favor and comment here after you get it? I’m dying to see what you think!
I'd be happy to do so.
I have the E95s in the Burgundy in medium. Would have liked to have seen the comparison done using the same ink.
Thank you so much for watching! What do you think of your Elite beauty? Are you thinking about getting another one?
Nice pen, i want it. What nib gives more softness feeling and more line variation? I guess F
Thank you for watching and asking- that’s an interesting question. Honestly, neither gives much line variation. I would say that the Medium has more of the softness but the Fine writes soooo smoothly that either one is a winner. It’s Christmas- just get both! 😂
@@KitchenCounterCrafts they are very cheap if got directly from Japan, so why not :-0
@@awaken77 I love the way you think! 😍
In my experience the gives greater line variation from greater or lesser pressure; but, there is more feedback with the .
For smoothness the is sublime.
@@McAmeron089III seriously- now I need a third one in 😅
Thank you for the video. Great job on the comparison. Even though it is not scientific, it is comprehensive enough for me to make my decision. Since i might purchasing the Elite online this video is valuable to me in deciding the size nib that i should get. Thank you😊
Thank you so much for watching! I’m excited for you to get one of these classy pens! If it makes you feel better, I purchased mine online as well! Pilot quality did not disappoint!
Which one are you thinking about?
@@KitchenCounterCrafts The fine nib. I was worried a bit because it's a Japanese nib. Your 0.4 assessment compared to 0.3 and 0.5 of the medium nib sealed my decision. Thank you. A 0.4 is a happy FM nib. I already have a Kaweco Skyline with a medium nib. My next pen after the pilot will be the Esterbrook Estie tortoise in Broad. This pen i am gonna buy from a brick and mortar shop locally and they only have a Broad nib, that's great for my collection. All 3 sizes of nib f, m and broad. If the Estie doesn't work out, I will go for Leonardo Momento Zero Blue Hawaii in a la fenice steel M nib. Leonardo Momento Zero is quite expensive here. This side of the globe 🌎 GMT+8. Thank you again for the video.
@@fjschnitzer1 I love that you have your list of what you want and what order! Sorry to hear that the Leonardo are expensive in your country. They are in the higher budget area here also but I’ve seen some on sale now and then!
I have a video on a borrowed Leonardo Blue Hawaii- I took the video in the sunlight and it is gorgeous!!!!
The only worry I would have is that I would forget to write and take notes because I would be staring at the beautiful pen! Hahaha!
I also like that you are trying all different nib sizes. I still don’t have a Broad! I started with a stub for calligraphy and then went to a Fine. I stayed with Fine and Extra Fine until I met my Pen Club friends who introduced me to Medium and Broad!😍
Okay, now let’s talk inks… what do you use and which is your favorite?
@@KitchenCounterCrafts I use Kaweco Sunrise Orange for my Kaweco Skyline. I like Diamine inks. I probably would use Diamine Havasu Torqoise for my future Leonardo MZ Blue Hawaii. Lake Havasu Arizona.
For the Elite 95s I will ink it with Monteverde Canyon Rust. A great alternative to writer's blood and oxblood. It's more of a copper red than blood red. Reminds me of the Grand Canyon. Been there once!
What do you suggest ink for the Fall season? I love Fall, kinda miss Fall and Thanksgiving!! Here it's summer 365 days and humid like Houston.
FYI we don't get Robert Oster here. Kinda strange considering Australia is only 6hrs ✈️ away. We got good selection of Diamine and Pilot Iroshizuku.
@@fjschnitzer1 oh no! Now you’re getting me talking about Fall inks!!! I’ve been thinking about doing a video about that, so please stay tuned!
I looovvveee brown inks! Give me rust, sepia and anything that looks antique. I love reading old classical novels and I love to write, so I think that’s the reason why.
I’ve used a sample of the canyon rust! It’s nice and does gravitate towards the red. Have you tried Diamine Ancient Copper? You’ll like it because of the red hue!
One of my favorite inks of all time is Oxblood- my husband and I had to get our own bottle because we weren’t good about sharing! 😂
BTW, I would love to see the Grand Canyon! I would be writing in rust colored inks for months afterwards! Haha!
For the Fall, I’m thinking something orange and brown for sure!
I just bought some DeAtramentis Gingerbread. It’s a scented ink! Smells like cinnamon and a little cloves… absolutely delicious!
I hope you can order some inks internationally - you can’t lose with Diamine though… my favorite!
Hi. I love your videos. I have the black version with a medium nib, and it is very smooth. It is my everyday carry pen. Cheers!
Thank you for the sweet feedback and for joining me on my obsession! It’s so good to know that I’m not alone on this magnificent little pen. The gold nib is so perfect, really!
So what do you use it for? What do you write?
Haha. I use it for everything! Journaling, grocery lists, to-do's, notes to self!
@@user-gl5ld9vm7i I am reaching for mine each time I write! Last week, it was mostly for work notes during meetings but grocery lists were written with it, as well as many, many post- it’s!
What’s your next go-to pen? Just curious 🧐
@@KitchenCounterCraftsHi. My next go- to-pen is whatever fountain pen happens to be close to me at my work table 😊
@@user-gl5ld9vm7i ..And the next to-buy pen on your wish-list?
I have the same, a M and a F.
I'm so glad to hear from you then!!! So... tell me which one do you reach for and why? Also, are you glad you got one of each or do you wish for another size nib?
The medium nib writes like 0.6 to 0.7 while the fine one writes like 0.4 .
@@am_ma Thank you!!! I’m always afraid to say what the line sizes look like, but that’s very helpful!
I really appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts!💗
Medium nibs should be the one to go to if your handwriting style is fast with big fonts.
And you are always in a hurry like a doctor(Physician) or a nurse or a clerk.
@@am_ma I love that comment!😍 M nibs show off the ink colors better as well!
I love Pilot, so any size nib is good for me! But I prefer the F for every day.
What’s your favorite pen & nib size?
@@KitchenCounterCrafts Pilot Elite95s with M nib and every other Pilot pen with M nib is also a favorite for me they are good smooth writers .
and for travel I like Pilot V pen M nib (Because if you lose it there is no big deal).
I was and I'm still a fan for Pilot Rollerball pens especially 0.7 size.
I frequently have to write a regular photocopy paper, so anything over a F results in ineligible print, probably my small handwriting contributes to that.
@@Kevinjimtheone same! I prefer fine but still love a good EF! Pilot has the best nibs, I think.
Which pen is your EDC?
@@Kevinjimtheone BTW, the gentleman stationer recommended Walmart brand Pen & Gear copy paper. He said his pens didn’t tend to bleed on that!
@@KitchenCounterCrafts my favorite one is a Hongdian Black Forest. I have a couple of Kaweco and Lamy, but I still like the Hongdian the best.
I’m now looking to get:
- Pilot Elite Super 200 (aka e95)
- Pilot Kakuno
- Majohn A1, since the Pilot Capless is a bit out of my range
@@Kevinjimtheone try the Kakuno- just for the fun nib that has a smiley face 😊 plus it’s a great writer! I love my Kakunos! The e95 is an incredible value and a great price for a gold nib. I have a review on it, if you’d like to check it out! It’s a beautiful piece of art and sure to get compliments!
Lamy pens are great for every day use. I use my safari to sketch.
I love having pens as a hobby but putting them to use is even better!
Any thoughts about a TWSBI?
@@KitchenCounterCrafts I just ordered a punch of vintage pens: Pilot Elite Super 200 18k (aka e95), Montblanc 585 14k, Sheaffer 440 (Made in USA) along with its ballpoint, and a Montblanc Noblesse. All of these in great condition, except the Noblesse which has a couple of dents but works fine (no pun intended), for $180.
About the TWSBI, I see many very conflicting comments in the community. Many say that the crack for no reason, and it's a massive issue, while others say they have one and they work great. Regardless, I wouldn't get one. I would instead get the Asvine V200. The build quality is much better both on the plastic and the metal (titanium), not to mention that Asvine nibs are simply lovely.
PS: I loved your review of the Pilot e95. It's what pushed me over the edge to get it :)
