Your channel is perfect for me because my handwriting is small, and most reviews (SBRE Brown, Matt Armstrong, and Gerald Taylor in particular) prefer broader nibs. Many thanks!

Here in the US, the pricing is the opposite. The Sailor is by far the more expensive pen.

I kinda miss these P&I reviews-always unique, personable and very informative.
    Any chance of a resurrection?

I have a Sailor pro Gear Slim "Sky" Special Edition, similar to yours, only in EF nib, and it is, hands down, the best nib ( for a modern pen) in my collection, which includes Montblanc, Edison custommade, and a number of other Sailors, both 1911 standard and Large, among others pens. Even if a normal small Sailor has a 14 k nib, these nibs in N, F and EF are probably the best non- flexible ( but slightly springy) gold nibs made nowadays. Quite smooth with a tad of feedback, no skipping at all, and just a bit springy. Great EF nibs! Quite different from boring German smooth steel nibs. These Sailor nibs are way more "expressive"...

Good comparison. As an owner of both, I agree with your comments. These two pen makers have a different approach to nibs. I have found Pilots to be softer & wetter, Sailors to be stiffer & drier. I also like feedback, which Sailors provide. The Con-70 converter is excellent if you want the most ink, if you change colors a lot not so good, cleaning is a challenge. Pricing varies widely depending on where you buy. Thanks for sharing.

which would u recommend when it comes to choosing one ? sailor pro gear 21 K gold, med nib or a pilot custom 823 with 14 k gold , med nib ? i've heard the latter is smoother as compared to the former in terms of writing experience.

    Excellent as usual!
I don't have a Pilot, but I have a few Sailors. The Sailor PG Slim is a very good EDC pen, very shirtpocket-friendly.

I have several Sailors that you could try and review, among them a PG Realo H-M, PG H-F, PG Naginata-togi, 1911M with a Richard Binder italic. Just send me an email.

what a shame that after having two of them, the difference on appearance quality, for me Sailor won over Pilot by great extent. the decorative rings are more delicate on Sailor, stamped lettering on cap ring on Sailor is finer so does not snag on stray fiber as often as Custom 74, and the nib polishing before plating or just surface quality in general, Pilot has lots of scratches so the rhodium plating looks duller compared to Sailor.
too bad that Promenade has been discontinued, I was surprised when the knurled clip wasn't felt like anything knurled metal, that's how meticulous Sailor care about simple but important qualities. at the lowest it could go for US$70, though MSRP is $100 w/o tax. It's probably a loss leader product designed to entice new customers, but I don't think it gets so much purchase b/c it's too often stay on that low range price compared to other Sailor products
yet... Honestly I can't recommend Sailor at all if you expect the general quality of what gold nib fountain pen means, especially on Fine and EF. I'm using Sailor for writing Japanese, and the near-excessive feedback(sometimes it feels different too) with it's very hard nib, gave me the kind of control that I want, but surprisingly provides useful range of line width just by F or MF nib. If you come from abusing Pilot steel nib, something will feel wrong to push Sailor too hard or too light.

    I'll take them both! :D
Really loving the comparison of two similar pens here, I may try doing this myself in a YT video, but I don't know that I have 2 very similar models like you have here. Recently acquired a Sailor 1911 Regular fountain pen in slate blue and *love* it! My first Sailor (gift for anniversary). That extra fine nib is something special.
VERY curious about the Custom 74 as I have 2 Pilot Preras and am impressed with their nibs.
Wow I natter on - thanks for this vid.

check out pilot custom 823, it's about 25 k inr compared to a sailor pro gear which would cost around 18k inr on indian online shopping sites like amazon.in
