Lyle and Pat. When we're all long gone, I have no doubt they will be looked upon as one the greatest writing team ever. Just amazing what the PMG has put out over the last 40 years.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard... heard it first back in 1984 from the "Travels" album and it changed my life. Call me a Methhead but I love Pat's music more than life itself. I can't imagine a day without listening to him play. Thanks Pat!
Whenever I hear this song, I see myself @ age 7 w/ my Farmer uncle on summer evenings on the back of his tractor "disking" the fields...The Sun setting on one side, us in the valley, and the Mountains in the distance. The birds following our path through the rich soil. just us. just life...
As many times as I've heard this (many!), I never tire of it. It's beautiful, relaxing and shows what real music is: It's about experience, love, loss, coping and yet finding that place that connects you with the one and all. This music (and many pieces of Lyle and Pat's) do that for so many. They are old, deep souls, looking to share with us. Amen...
This tune illustrates Lyle's brilliant synth programming and ability to provide a canvas on which Pat can paint. In 35 years, I've heard NO ONE ELSE reproduce the warm strings and pads Lyle does. He uses almost NO preprogrammed factory synthesis; he creates his own.
Nasci na roça aqui no Brasil, lá pelos anos 70 , 80 conheci o country americano com Jonh willlians. Em 80 e90 conheci o jazz com essa banda. Nada me impressionou tanto, até q comecei a louvar a Deus.
Pat y Lyle son como Dioses de la música, yo también no paso ni 1 solo día sin escuchar alguna de sus fantásticas producciones. Para mí son sin duda de los mejores músicos de la historia. Lyle ya no estás pero es como si no te hubieras ido. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I may have taken the time to comment on this wonderful video of Pat and Lyle's music before, but I listen to this so often, in so many moods, and yet it always rings true and beautiful. Why this music seems timeless is because it reflects both the beauty and the complexity of life at this point in time. This song can heal because it is outside of the boundaries of ego, and is just to be experienced. Thank you Pat, Lyle, Steve and the rest of the band, and thanks, KLaurent13 for keeping it here.
It comes to my mind during times when I want to reconnect with essential things in my life. A private place in my heart. Quite often I return to a place where I relive the deepest part of my humanity -- memories of the most amazing souls I lost to an early death.
I had the good fortune to hear Pat play this with his current band at the Barre Opera House (Barre, VT) on Jan 14, 2017. As you might expect it was exquisite. Get out and hear them if you can!
What sets Pat apart from any contemporary "guitar god" type players is his music, which is always more important than his virtuosity. Pats melody's say more to me than any lyric ever written could.
Along with "Farmer's Trust" and "Letter from Home", PMG's song "If I Could" is another one that I never get tired of listening to... very "hypnotic" (in a good way, of course!)
Delicate, delicious, sumptuous, silky, emotional, damn near perfect. If you love Farmer's Trust, you must also hear Letter from Home. Both are hypnotic and virtuoso compositions.
@@spookedhorse I showed my 10 and 13yr old kids Fandango this summer. It clearly did not move them the way it did me. Maybe it would have if they saw it at 15 like I did.
@andrewgrosman Oh, man! does that statement ever hit home with me. Fandango is probably my favorite movie of all time. The Pat Methany songs at the end are all so soothing...
THE Groovers........ what a great film. Kevin in his earlier days..... so good. "Do you boys ever drink beer ?". "Well yeah, sometimes.... on occasion."
Listening to Metheny playing nylon I prefer the Ovation's sound (smooth, mellow, voluminous) to that of Linda Manzer's fine instruments (almost coarse and flat at times, you can hear the fingers working the strings, it seems har work to play these). I find it interesting how Ovations practically vanished from the stages today and would be curious on a professional musician's opinion or expertise here.
> Classical guitar is a style of guitar which is > played on nylon string acoustic guitars Yes, but it's also a type of guitar, sometimes referred to as a Spanish gtr. And a Flamenco guitar is a style of nylon str guitar, which differs from a "regular" classical in its construction. That gtr of Pat's is an Ovation, which I might call simply a nylon string, since it's of nontraditional construction. Though typically "classical" is used as the generic term for nylon str guitar.
Peace and Love to all Meth-Heads from Xorxx and lineage. As you know, our plan is to bring Lyle and Pat home Dec.20, 012, and we are now offering limited space aboard our Mentor vehicles for humans who love their music so much they could not bear life without it. The trix, of course, is that only we know who really are those humans. We have our list and shall check it twice; do not be naughty, be nice; cool as ice; hearts must still be able to leap as a child's would for your Santa. Goodwill!
No it doesn't. That is a nylon string. The strings on this sort of guitar are nylon string, so it is a nylon string guitar. Steel string guitars have steel cored string. Both steel string and nylon string guitars are acoustic (Acoustic being defined as "Of or being an instrument that does not produce or enhance sound electronically") as apposed to an electric guitar. Classical guitar is a style of guitar which is played on nylon string acoustic guitars
@NorthLight68 I SO agree with you.. lyrics... they don't say me anything, neither can they make me FEEL anything - that is why dislike Bob Dylan, Tom Waits a.s.o. they just HURT my ears!
You are not listening to Pat Metheny, you are listening to Lyle Mays. That has been proven beyond doubt if you consider Methenys output after Lyle left him. Unfortunately Metheny has never been even close in releasing anything lasting since then. He has tried....in vain

One of my all time favs. Bravo Pat... Bravo.
Lyle's background tones and guidance for this melody is beyond quantum.
You can say🌊
the emotion and depth of Pat's playing on the particular tune is beyond words:)
One of my favourite songs. My stepfather was listening this song back in the 80's. He still has the good old vinyl discs;-)
Timeless beauty from Mays and Metheny...again.

I'm guessing it has a lot to do with strings, and what the instrument is being fed into/through.

That's a Classical guitar - and the definition Classical stands for the three up strings being made of a kind of plastic and not metal as in acustic:)
