    MMORPG drama is so pathetic because it's never about adversity or rivalry. The conflict arises entirely because people can't pause their antisocial behavior for a few minutes.

    I'm the WAR in this group and to give context, we formed a week or two before TOP dropped and we did some savage raids together to kinda get used to each other and also ran Baldicante EX blind. I think we also did some O12S unsynced with like missing gear for the "Unreal" experience. This was Mysterious Girl's group. Everything seemed pretty chill until we actually went in lmao. Can confirm that Anloix (the PLD) was moved around in roles.
    The first clip was day 1 and the comment about Xenos taking a long time to get past phase 1 was more to highlight to him like. Bro. That's a group that went into it with the grindset in place, with I'm sure people taking off of work and had been going for literally most of the day. And even then, it takes time. Like our group didn't take any time off to raid longer or anything like that. It was the first hour of raid and he kept stopping us to try to figure out what we're doing wrong but like. We're just learning the fight. It's okay to take time. But the idea of me knowing this shit would happen and Xenos would see this sounds better, so we'll go with that. LMFAO. Looper is hard though for sure. Fuck that mechanic
    Also in that clip, he said he'd make a diagram and later we said that if we found other strats other than snake prio, to post it in the discord to review and discuss before raid. Nothing was posted. So I assumed we were going to just. Ya know. Keep doing the defined strat.
    The second clip was day 2 of the release and at that point I felt like we'd probably have had like legitimately 1.5 hours of prog due to how much we were stopping to "figure out what we're fucking up". I'm not gonna lie I didn't realize it was going on for that long because my PC crashed (PC dies of cringe) in the middle of the conversation but also I zoned out. I'm the reason why he said "I only see 6 of you in here" for the vod review of him showing us a clip of him fucking up lmao. I was promptly removed from home boy's server afterwards. I was also never DM'd by Mysterious with the comments about "these girls", but the other guys told me about it for sure.
    To go further with the point Xenos was mentioning on removing the SCH and continuing, we definitely tried.
    We ended up with a group of 5. I don't think the MNK and SMN came back afterwards to get the band back together, so we started recruiting more people. With more people coming along, the time availability starts to shift of course, so it got to the point where my schedule just wasn't fitting anymore, so I ended up joining and clearing with another group. I believe that Anloix DID actually end up clearing in PF like she said she would. BDE. But yeah good times. But better content.

    25:10 Wise words. I've been on this situation often. Some mechanics I learn quickly, but some take me a lot of time and error to get right. But with my static it has never been a problem. Everyone does their part, everyone learns at their own pace. In my static having fun as a group is actually more important than prog. Our view is that as long as you're having fun, it makes progging more worthwhile.

  • @av2279
    @av2279 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +44

    Sorry, but I'm just gonna call it like I see it: Mysterious Girl's brain couldn't handle that a woman was arguing against him using actual logic, so he latched onto the detail of her using herself in her own example and twisted it into her "playing the victim." He could not comprehend that there was sound reasoning to her speaking up against him, and tried to minimize her argument by labelling it as something it wasn't. And she was completely justified in not letting that go, and calling him out on it.
    Even if it wasn't motivated by (perceived) gender, it's still a toxic thing to do.

    • @maybeitsyou1317
      @maybeitsyou1317 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      So your saying he would have quietly accepted whatever he was told as long as it was by a man and not a woman? I mean sure...seems like a reach to me though. Im curious as to what made you think that? I see this person as the type of person to simply not get along with others easily. Hence why he's the one trying to put together a static. I'd bet he has been kicked from many. Some people are just twats.

    • @av2279
      @av2279 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@maybeitsyou1317 I think that because of the message he sent to one of the other static members after the events of the video, where he had said something along the lines of being unable to deal with "these girls," and the static member getting a strong enough vibe about it that they mentioned that detail to others.
      That, and like I mentioned, he classified her logical argument (about him needing to consider that he is not the one flexing during the mechanic and that others are the ones doing the extra work) as playing the victim. I have a very hard time believing that he would have assigned that criticism to a male teammate, especially when her explanation was objective and well-worded. (It didn't have any attitude or whining about it.) Those two things make me think that.
      Of course, I also think he doesn't get along well with others in general, like you said. So it's probably both things, imo.
      So to answer your first question, no, I don't think he would have quietly accepted what he was being told if it had been a man and not a woman. I didn't say that at any point. I think he still would have argued. But I believe he would have just stubbornly continued arguing for his strat or found other excuses to claim his idea was the better one, etc. Specifically, I don't think he would have gotten off topic/tried to discredit their arguement by claiming the teammate was playing the victim, with that particular word choice.

    The thing about groups disbanding when it's just like one problematic person is do true. I've seen it happen so often. Hahaha I remember doing O11S. I think it was level checker where you had to send two people to opposite sides and run around the arena taking towers. There was some strat where the tethered people start on the E and W sides of the arena, and depending on the orientation of the first towers (N-S or E-W), the rest of the party needed to stack either N or S of the center puddle. The way we remembered it was "hotdog north, hamburger south," because hot dogs are wide (E-W) and hamburgers are tall (N-S).

    • @scarletfreeman9211
      @scarletfreeman9211 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@I_Is_Boredy I had a whole reply typed up and YT deleted it because I tried to link a screenshot of what I was talking about. ;-;
      Fair warning: it's been forever since I've done RubiEX and I may be misremembering the exact position of the pizza slice but it will ALWAYS be by one of the cat ears.
      But basically. Okay. So for the fourth rotation mechanic the ONLY circle you need to focus on is the inner circle. The two curved paths the Bad can take will ALWAYS have two pizza slices between them. Those curved slices + the lines between them will ALWAYS have the safe spot, it will never be on one of the four straight lines in a row.
      So, knowing that, if you follow those two curved lines and the outer edge of the middle circle you'll get a shape kind of like a cat's head + ears. Something like this _ dnh _ just ignore the bottom of the circle on the D and that's the shape you want to be looking for. The underscores on the sides represent the two straight lines those curved ones connect to and help shape the 'cat ears peeking out from behind a surface shape' that helps to memorize the mechanic.
      (Do remember the actual curved lines on the floor that you're looking for look something like this: ㄣ )
      For the sake of an example I'm just supposing we get that mechanic going straight W -> E so the cat ears look normal. If the circle is rotating clockwise, you would want to stand on the pizza slice that the East cat ear/curved slice is on. If it was rotating ccw, you'd want to stand on the West one.
      I am DEFINITELY not explaining this properly but figuring that out and figuring out that you can rotate with the cat ears saves a LOT of trial and error because one of those curved line areas at the start before the mech rotates is ALWAYS going to be the final safe spot for the mechanic once it's rotated. You just have to narrow down which one it is, and the advice I was given was literally "just follow the cat ears."

      Some tanks really need to jump off their high horse. When I tank, I couldn't give a flying rats ass if I am being overhealed or not. I don't need to be overhealed, yes it is a bit tilting when I press equillibrium, I am full hp and then the ast 5 seconds later uses essential dignity when I am already full. But it doesn't tilt me enough to not want to play with them, at least I know 100% I am not dying with them having my back and I can chill.
      As a tank main who should be the primary healing target, I have a saying "I would rather be overhealed, than underhealed". I appreciate healers when they don't overheal and actually keep me alive, but I also appreciate healers that overheal just to make sure I stay alive because they are maybe not as experienced in the role and would rather not have us wipe. Into the video now and yeah it's a skill issue he should be moving around the other way to not take the tether. But in hindsight it's easy to say he's bad when looper was just an insufferable mechanic.
    In prog, you never change the mechanic if the mechanic is working. Xeno's takes here are genuinely perfect. You follow majority rule, and if the majority rules for a bad strat you either suck it up and do it or you leave. Wish the rest of them would've stuck together, the PLD seemed fairly well measured but quick to leave unfortunately.

    This vid takes me back to my WoW Raid leader days.. I hated people that would try to have these discussions during raid nights.. so our approach was like "This is the tactics we are using. If you dont like it suck it up. then we'll open discussion AFTER the raid night.." The theory being most people learn by actually DOING the fight. rather than theorycrafting. So we look up tactics. we find one that we see worked in other raids. we do it all night. and if we didnt kill the boss. thats when we start going in deep over what went wrong and potentially trying something different.. they are wasting sooooo much time just sitting there not fighting the boss when i bet half of their problems were just dumb mistakes by people that just need actual practice. we would ofc address minor things like "Healer you stood in fire. dont do that" but we'd never change the "core tactic" during a raid night.

      Disagree, it's better to spend some raid time going over the mech to make sure everyone is on the same page and understands the strat. If some people have a fundamental misunderstanding of the strat/mech, it's better to get that all ironed out first so that the reps are efficient. Once I started basically streaming a powerpoint presentation and quizzing the group for every hard mech and taking questions, we progged way faster than before.

One person is wasting 7 other peoples time arguing to change something that the majority of the party isn't having an issue with and is entirely comfortable with, so I can kinda get what their point is. But a lot of his behavior was super egregious and not conducive to a group setting. It's both insane and totally expected to me that he has not changed at all.
    -Instead of trying to help the other healer, would give toxic comments and screenshot their xivanalysis and say bully words instead of offering constructive criticism.
    -Would show up late or not at all to scheduled raid times forcing us to pug a healer on Crystal at the last minute for prog.
    -Would skip raid with no warning when patch dropped to craft.
    -Would be angry that a prog and reclear static wouldn't cater to his parses
    -Often tried changing strats to benefit himself
    -Accused us of wasting his time for not pf'ing the fights outside of static raid times. (Whats the point of having a static?)

      PF strats are about minimizing moving parts, which isn't necessarily always easier.
      P7S and P8S had a ton of wipes because the "go to your spot and let thing resolve" strats with fixed positions would wind up killing one person because War cleaves weren't perfectly set in more stringent positions for 7, and in 8 Snakes 2 would get people petrified because static positions made avoiding gazes way harder than needed for 4 people standing right next to snakes as opposed to pairing at gaze safe spots then gaze debuffs rotating.
      On the other hand, in attempting to get people to do more consistent but movement-involved strats, you get arseholes who are ride or die on the first strat they heard of picking arguments between pulls, and unfortunate people who can't seem to react in time whenever they are required to move. The latter are accommodated by low movement strats, and the former can basically only be broken from that mindset with a "stand on this marker and shut up already" response.

    20:19 this happened to my Abyssos static. Three of my friends and I put together a static for Abyssos, with Asphodelos being our first raid tier in FFXIV for all 4 of us. We were still learning but were clearly getting better at the game, and sure enough, we started flying through Abyssos. We took 2 hours to clear Barbie EX from first entering it, then did a boss a week in Abyssos up until phase 1 Hephaistos. For context, it took us ~6 total months (including some month-long breaks) to clear all of Asphodelos, so going from a fight every 3 weeks or so to a fight a week for progression had us really confident.
    But then we had an issue with our healers and one of the DPS. One of the DPS just learned more slowly than the rest of us, which in and of itself is not a huge issue if everyone is having fun. But our healers just were not healing enough and were focused too much on doing damage, which caused us to start severely regressing in P8S phase 1. We would have people die during dog 1 to just raw damage, despite mit not being an issue, and after having cleared P8S in PF a couple dozen times, it's honestly insane to lose someone to damage in freaking dog 1. One of the healers was clearly the bigger issue; for context, I died 3 times to raw damage on our first P5S kill despite executing my mit plan perfectly for the tank swap on all 3 occasions. We all knew it was the one healer's fault, but we pushed on because we got a week 1 kill only 2 days after the tier dropped, which was very fast for the overwhelming majority of the group. Once we got to P8S phase 1 and saw what was happening, we considered dropping them, but it was too late.
    One night after failing to get to enrage (after 2 weeks of prog), one of the DPS posted on Discord that they were going to exit the group and take a break from FFXIV. What really sucked is, unlike most statics, we all got along well enough and when we disbanded, there was no bad blood, no one yelling at anyone or putting anyone on their ignore list or anything like that. We just didn't react soon enough to the healer who was the problem, and that snowballed into the static disbanding. I still talk to most of that group and have PF'd with them, but it taught me that if I ever want to be in a static again, I either need leadership that is going to make the hard decisions when they count or I need to be strong enough to make those decisions myself if I'm the leader.

      I'm getting chills from reading your comment, since it is nearly 1-1 exact the same thing that happened to our group.
      What i personally learned is that parse =/= skill, our healer farmed high parses at the end of Aspho raidtier and went into Abyssos with a Parse mentality.
      That was getting quite annoying, that we wiped due to our healer not wanting to use defensive Gcds and thinks that using Ogcds is enough, because it was fine in Aspho.
      The difference is in Aspho everyone had their gear already, but in early prog we are lacking so much Gear, so using gcds sometimes are required for safety.

    Also, the "use the strat if it's what PF uses" is honestly valid 99% of the time and is just good, proactive planning just in case the static falls apart. I can't tell you how long we had to re-prog P4S with a new recruit before going into PF to complete the fight because, while their healing was great and they were giving PF tanks a run for their money in terms of DPS, they learned all of P4S phase 2 in a static with their own unique strats that they had to try to unlearn before learning the PF way. Wasn't worth trying to do with them for our goals.
    I think the only PF strat I've seen this expansion that is truly dumb is the tank damage down strat for P1S. That was just stupid.

    A lot of issues brought up in the video I've personally experienced, when I was doing TEA(on drop) though because of the grindset the people struggling would thankfully just take themselves out.
    As time went on and I did more and more clears the people who really should've either fixed themselves or simply left just didn't and it ended up being a huge waste of time, difference of priorities really. People wanted to play with their friends vs clearing content.
    That said something I really internalized from the whole ultimate experience is that the other 7 people in your party are your TEAM.
    They don't want you to fail, they want you to succeed so if you're trying to figure out a mechanic good on you but after the 8th hour and having maybe a 50% consistency rate what you need to do is simply tell your team: "Hey I don't get this and I need help/suggestions because I'm holding us back." usually what happens is someone whose good at whichever said mechanic will literally swap sides with someone and just have them follow them or they'll do callouts for that part particularly and it will instantly raise consistency to at least 80-90%.
    The issue is the people who don't have the mentality to humble themselves before their team and ask for help. I have seen groups gated by some of the dumbest shit and on the last day of raid I asked this one girl "Hey I noticed you're struggling, why do you do this, etc. How about I just swap healers and you follow me?" Instant consistency raise to 80% but we spent 4 straight months of this girl failing over and over again and no one said anything myself included; because I didn't want to take a leadership position again.
    That was a mistake there needs to be a careful balance from everyone to keep each other accountable.

    I'm only at 12 mins so far but yeah snake is perfectly fine, and the " skill issue" was so correct !
    If you want to replace a strat that only you can't do it, then yeah ... on you
    Pretty sad this group disbanded instead of replacing the problem like Xeno said
    I think it's a problem that can happen quite often, people are so hype for the content ( like me, I love progging new ultimates ) they're gonna be impatient very fast, instead of just accepting that a mechanic can be hard, or that a strat that you want to use on that mechanic is gonna take a little bit of time for everyone to get use to and that's fine !
    And yeah also loop is far from being easy to prog at the start, and you have to accept that !

      @@chewedw1re ye but compared to what i saw since ARR in europe raiding groups, we kinda have more a mentality of working for a static out for the raid tier or in some cases even after

      @ruesalka 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chewedw1re it sounds like this was a new group - being direct helps them all figure out early if they're going to be able to work together or not, and avoid wasting one another's time like the healer was doing. we don't know, maybe (hopefully) they reformed without him, the rest seemed to be on the same page.

  • @Ewiganify

    I'd agree with Xeno's point which he starts explaining around 20:00, but in most cases people don't wanna deal with the burden of organizing stuff around 7 other players, like getting in touch with them, look for a fitting schedule, do a trial, etc. It's cumbersome, so maybe in the majority cases of static disbands are happening because they just want to be in a good group, but don't wanna go the mile to build it themselves.

    every time you cater to one player the group fails and disbands. Every time you KICK the 1 or 2 players that are the problem we clear 90% of the time. this standard should be enforced 100% it has worked for me and my fellow friends since ARR to now. being nice or TOO tolerant to other players in ff14 is actually bad for your own personal health. pretty much an unaware hypocrite to yourself. SO! if my point is if you see a players just wanting to change something because its not working for the other seven are doing just fine with current strat then just kick them.. dont waste time with arguments, you are pretty much encouraging the behavior even more if you give me a chance to argue.

    This just happened to randomly pop up on my feed but:
    I raided with Mysterious Girl in my week 1 Abyssos group. Within the literal first 30 minutes or so, they had an actual meltdown because our tanks didn't want to invuln the buster in P5S because of the bleed (which is the correct take, obviously.) While we were in P8 we wasted so much precious time having the long, protracted strat discussions that are seen in this video. Literally while the instance timer was ticking while we were progging Phase 2 they would refuse to pull so we could have these ridiculously long discussions about what strats to use. It was always the strats fault, never the player. This behavior does not surprise me in the least.

    Just pull really is the way. Especially if you're just only barely into the fight. Get some practice first, then analyze how raid went AFTER RAID, or at the very least get a couple hours of pulls in, and if you're walling, alright let's hash it out for a few minutes.
    And the people who stayed quiet really need to contribute to communication. Could've ended the argument one way or another right there when they called for a vote. Whoevers strat gets outvoted, great, we're done. We're doing it whichever way the team voted and we can discuss more LATER if needed. Ezpz pull the damn boss.

And I don't care if you kick me or not, just pick a strat and Lets Do This!!
