В этом небольшом обзоре мы бы хотели показать некоторые отличия Соник 3 от Соник 3 и Наклз. Вроде казалось бы - одна и та же игра. Но выпустив Соник 3 и Наклз, разработчики "пофиксили" кусок Соник 3, что и привело к появлению отличий. Какие-то глюки были исправлены, какие-то появились взамен. Сильно изменена зона Лонч Бейз, т.к. в Соник 3 она была финальной и как следствие, должна была быть сложнее.
Мы не рассматривали различия в музыке, но тут отметим, что ряд композиций для разных событий отличается в разных версиях, например мелодия получения жизни, неуязвимости/Супер Соника, минибосса, титульника и т.п. Приятного просмотра =)

In this little review we wanted to point out some of the differences between Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It seems like it's the same game, what's the point? But S3&K was some kind of a "fix" of Sonic 3. And it made the differences apear. Some glitches were fixed, but due to that the new ones were introduced. The Launch Base Zone was changed a lot. Since it was the final zone in Sonic 3 it had to be harder.
We didn't review the differences in music and sound, but we can point out however, that there are some changed tracks like "gaining a 1 up" sound, the invincibility/Super Sonic melody, the miniboss melody, the title screen belody and such. Enjoy =) - เกม

Razor and Zenon DID list the differences themselves, but TH-cam got rid of annotations and basically fucked the video
Well it makes sense that Launch Base would be harder in Sonic 3, as it's the last level in that game.
+Beamo1080 Yeah surprise they cut it off before it the end boss which is missing in S3&K version. S3 Launch Base was designed as a final level where as for S3&K it's only a mid game one so they made it easier.

Good thing Sonic 3 Complete brings back the S3 Launch Base (with Big Arms as the boss)
I think the reason Launch Base was changed so much is because in Sonic 3 "Alone" they had to have a last level at that point in time. So they put in a lot more enemies and traps to make it equivalent to Death Egg in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. When Sonic and Knuckles came around, the stage is basically completely overhauled to be just the mid point of the game, which means a relatively easy to normal stage rather than a stage full of traps and potentially running into enemies.
I do wish that Big Arms for Sonic and Tails was NOT removed however in the complete version of the game however. That would have been a great boss to test the abilities of the player at that point, and once you beat him you get to go to Mushroom Hill and continue on. That's how it was for me for my original save because when I locked on Sonic and Knuckles, I got to continue from my clear file from Sonic 3 because it just started me from Stage 7, so my original "adventure" if you can call it that in Sonic 3 actually HAD the Big Arms boss for Sonic.
Super Sonic getting harmed by the ice though in Ice Cap in Sonic 3 was just beyond ridiculous. That is nothing more than a bug.

All in all, they're both good.
Bonus stages required 50 rings in _Sonic the Hedgehog 3_, but in _Sonic 3 & Knuckles_, they only required 20 rings.
Bonus stages didn't need any rings in sonic 1 and 2 they both required 50 rings but sonic 3 and knuckles you had to find the bonus stages

What, really? On my Sonic 3 cartridge I only needed like 25 rings to get the bonus stage......strange

25 Rings for the Slot Machine bonus;
40 Rings for the Glowing Spheres;
50 for the Sonic 3 bonus, aka the Gumball Machine.
Also, if I remember correctly, at the end of Launch Base in Sonic 3, Sonic has to fight the Big Arm boss, wins, and the Death Egg goes down
In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, he has to fight that large flying laser tower boss, wins, and the Death Egg goes down.
SonicandTails58 Well sonic also had to fight the tower in Sonic 3, so that was like 3 bosses in a row. Since that kind of thing may have been too much for the halfway point, the Big Arm fight was made exclusive to Knuckles. Knuckles doesn’t fight the ball launcher thingy.
In Sonic 3, Sonic fights Large Flying Laser Machine, Deafeats, Wins and then Big Arms Appears, Sonic deafeats Big Arm, Death Egg Goes Down, Explodes.
In S3&K, Sonic Fights ONLY Large Flying Faser Machine, Deafeats it, Death Egg goes down and Sonic Goes to Mushroom Valley/Mushroom Hill, Big Arms Exists in S3&K, But only in Knuckle's Route, But its possible to acess Sonic's area as Knuckles (Debug Mode) and You will fight The Glitchy Large Flying Laser Machine with Eggrobo, Deafeating it, Big Arms Appears, But the Sky doesn't get dark like Sonic 3.

S3 is not kind to Super Sonic. Almost makes me think S3 needed Hyper Sonic more than S3&K.

You didn't mention the Super Sonic behavior at the end of Launch Base Act 2. After beating the first boss in Act 2 (where Robotnik launches out the bowling ball), Sonic will revert to normal form in S3+K, while remaining Super Sonic in S3. This is significant, because in S3, you will remain Super Sonic while riding Robotnik's ship to the final area of the game, draining you of whatever rings you have left. In S3+K, you can turn back into Super Sonic in the final area (provided you still have the rings) once Robotnik's ship leaves the screen after Sonic jumps out of it. Which means that if you want to get to the final area in S3 and turn into Super Sonic, you'd want to beat Robotnik while having a shield on (as Sonic cannot transform while you have a shield on), so you can save your rings for the final area.
Also, the final boss in Sonic 3 can hurt Super Sonic. If Robotnik grabs Super Sonic, he'll throw him to the ground and you'll lose all your rings. While you don't fight the Big Arm Boss as Sonic/Tails in S3+K, the Big Arms boss CANNOT hurt Super/Hyper Knuckles. If Super/Hyper Knuckles is grabbed by Big Arms, when thrown to the ground, you'll just bounce off the ground while making a spring bouncing sound. Also, Big Arms swoops across the screen twice before going up top (and then down below) in S3, while he goes across the screen four times before going to the top/bottom parts of the screen in S3+K.

Thank you so much for this great video. It reminds me of the old days of playing S3 and S3&K, especially the Launch Base Zone part, for I started playing S3&K after beating S3 many times, thus finding several differences you mentioned in the video.
And I know one bug that S3 owns yet fixed in S3&K, which not included in this video.I haven't seen much of your videos so I don't know if you already know it.(Well I bet you know it) I'll just explain just in case.
In S3, If you use Super Sonic in Hydrocity Zone Boss Battle and get hurt on purpose, you will find that the character will be like normal Sonic in appearance and capacity(speed and jump), but also invincible and super-sonic-colored. Besides, your rings won't be reduced. Technically, it's normal sonic sprites with an unlimited invincibility monitor and a shinning style.More interestingly, this state won't disappear until exactly when the next zone starts, so you'll be watching Super Sonic do that "stage clear" gesture after abusing Eggman. I guess it's a color palette issue as everything shares the same color style as normal Sonic will become shining, including "SONIC GOT THROUGH act 2".
It was a really interesting bug, but fixed in S3&K, which disappointed me a little, because I'd had so many walkthroughs of S3 and every time I'd like to do this trick to Dr.Robotnik.

My sister had a ds cartridge with one version of this on it. Well I remembered some of Angel island, I could not recall the fire. How was knux okay with this?
He wasn't. °^° he was pissed at eggman too, but at the time eggman tricked him into thinking a robot was doing bad things and that sonic and tails were trying to take the master emerald. When knuckles found out he helped sonic and tails.
There's also some layout differences in Marble Garden Zone and Ice Cap Zone, both act 2.

the part at 5:01 on S3 has a lot of spikes and badniks because it was originally the final level of sonic 3. while in S3K they removed some of those because that wasn't the end of the game.

Imo, in S3&K, they should have copied the music from S3 to the parts they belong. Meaning, during the levels of S3, there should've been Knuckles' and the invincibility of S3 which were changed to the ones of S3&K.

@Starscream91 What are you saying? Sonic 3 Complete is a great hack (which also fixes some small and less small issues and expand on the original game with a lot of customization) while Sonic 3 AIR is a fangame using the assets from the original rom that makes the game smoother (like the Taxman mobile remakes of Sonic 1,2 and CD) and gives us a more modern experience.
They're not official (and nobody are claiming that) but what's your problem with romhacks? There are tons of Sonic 1 and 2 hacks that are good (or even great), maybe even better than some of the officially released games...
In fact Sonic 3 Complete/AIR are objectively the best way to enjoy that classic

Also the music swap is about musics that were already in the cartridge (there's also the PC Sonic & Knuckles collection but it's more for people who really are nostalgic about this one)
"It is a Sonic game, not Dance Dance Revolution" well the thing is that Sonic's ost has always been praised no matter what, I don't get your "hurts the identity of the game and tone and works against the artistic vision that the designers intended" I mean Knuckles has two different theme depending of the game you play, so what's the problem with prefering one over the other considering that both were made by the game designer...
And for your RotLA comparison, it's the wrong one, I would personally love if one day they decide to release a Blade Runner Blu-Ray that let you choose between the first, director's and final cut (because I personally prefer the second cut) instead of forcing you to watch the fina cut in each new re-release.
Also jokes on you, the Star Wars movie special edition wasn't well received by every fans so one guy made a "despecialized edition" that was the HD-ed release without the crazy special effects added, which was the "original vision of the author" anyway.
Also it's a videogame, it's an entertainment medium, it's not comparable as Mona Lisa (which by the way got many parodies)...
PS: Actually I think you're just a purist that doesn't like when people makes videogame mod and hack despite the fact that one of the reason why the Sonic fandom is still alive is partly thanks to the many hack of those Sonic game... Sonic 3 & Knuckles isn't even legally available on modern consoles and people who want to compensate for the lack of mobile remake are working hard for it...

What I'm starting to notice different about Sonic is how his walk cycle starts.

I believe I was talking about which frame his walk cycle starts. I was noticing something different:
Sonic 3 = contact pose
Sonic 3&K = passing pose (ditto for Sonic & Knuckles alone)
It could be possibly the sprite order was edited slightly for Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic & Knuckles.
The Main Difference: 3&K is the whole adventure, while 3 alone is only the first part

The answer is neither because sonic 3 and knuckles is sonic the hedgehog 3 and sonic and knuckles combined but you get super emeralds with both stages combined and you get "hyper sonic super tails and hyper knuckles"
