  • The 2020 Subaru Legacy is on a new platform that Subaru claims is the stiffest and quietest yet. It has a huge Starlink navigation screen, EyeSight driver assistance technology, Harman/Kardon audio, Apple CarPlay, and plenty of nice amenities. But is this all-wheel-drive family sedan competitive in the shrinking sedan segment?

I went to a Subaru dealership today to check out a few of their vehicles- and I really liked the LEGACY a lot. At present time I am in a Volkswagen Tiguan.

I just bought a 2021 Legacy Touring XT a few days ago. I'm taller (6'3") and that driver's seat was the biggest selling point for me. The pull out thigh support makes all the difference in my being able to get totally comfortable. As you said, the visibility is excellent. From that standpoint I feel like I'm back in my parent's old 1989 Taurus. The tall windows and roofline make it very open. I forgot how cars used to be and how claustrophobic many new ones are with the short windows and blind spots. Plus it sits a few inches higher making it very easy to just turn and step out of the vehicle. The headroom is great too and its one of the few cars with a sunroof I have no problem with. The nappa leather is just so nice - very premium looking, feeling and smelling interior. The fit and finish is top notch - I poured over ever inch of the interior and exterior and I couldn't find one problem. As far as the handling its average for the segment, but the ride is very smooth and quiet - best of any sedan I tested. The turbo has gobs of power after a second or two delay to let the turbo spool up. The CVT is fine as well. As your said, one of the better ones. The navigation is OK by me. TBH, I didn't notice the voice prompts muting the stereo. I left it on - I like the extra help when looking for an address. As far as the lane keeping functions I turned them off. I would turn them off in any car. I just don't like that feeling of the wheel being tugged or the beeping every time the outside line has a break. As far as the driver attention monitoring, I really didn't notice it nagging me if I glanced to the right or left for a few seconds. Maybe they've updated the software to not be so hair-trigger with its warnings. The biggest plus done in an update is that they've moved the auto start/stop disable to the home screen. Early reviews I watched griped that it was buried several menus deep and a pain to shut off. So yeah, all in all I'm really happy with my purchase. Its not perfect in every respect but it has so many good attributes and features that all put together it was the best car for me (and I'm one of the few people left it seems who doesn't want an SUV or pickup).

Congrats on the purchase, Jeff! The XT likely fixed one of the biggest issues we had with the N/A Limited - power. It was "fine" but not the most hair-raising for the enthusiasts among us, and the XT fixes that handily. It sounds like some software may have been updated since we posted this video, which is really great to see.
Sedans are a bit thinner on the ground and it's great to hear from a happy new owner of one!

This car really impressed me. If you took the badges off, and sat inside, you'd be hard pressed to think this is from the same people making the aging STI.

Your opinions on this car are so accurate. I bought this car about 2 months ago.

Would love to see a true GT with a manual and the Turbo, or at least a sportier packaging with wheel/tire and suspension upgrades.

I don’t care about too much tech in a vehicle.

Keep your opinions to yourself and just report the facts. Many reviewers think that the buyers viewing here want to be like them .

Hey Mike! We're a channel by and for enthusiasts, so everything we produce has that angle. If you simply want a beautiful human to read you the manufacturer's press release, there are plenty of other channels to watch instead. We're not an extension of anyone's PR team and thus, opinions are mandatory. Thanks for watching!
