  • For over three years, I have been working with and manipulating resin into shape. If you follow my channel, you will know that I have bent and shaped many a resin piece.
    In this video, I want to share my resin tip of the day - How I manipulate resin into shape, using heat.
    Like many of you, not all of my resin pieces go according to plan. However, I have learned that by adding heat to soften the resin, it will bend and stretch without cracking.

    Hi Sue I have a question..... does the heat from the globe negatively affect the resin lamp during use??? thanks

    • @beckymurphy4714

      I could be wrong, but I don't think a bulb puts off enough heat to soften the resin.

      Not at all, I only use LED bulbs and they don't affect the resin.

    Great tip Sue and an utterly gorgeous lamp! Such beautiful colours and effects around the edge! I wish I could make something this beautiful, my husband loves lamps, we have 7 just in our lounge room! He would be so overjoyed and amazed if I made him a lamp like this! Were you able to buy everything that's needed for this in Australia? Stay happy! 😃💜🐨🙋‍♀️🥰🤗

      @@SueFindlay Thanks Sue 🥰 I really need your help with something. I've only just started working with resin and I've painted two sets of coasters, on tiles (Squares and Hexagons) for my son and daughter for Christmas. What is the best way to resin them pretty please?? I think I need to tape the bottom?, I didn't use any silicone so also, what is the best way to clean them first? Then do I pour and tilt the resin or do I just rub it on with my gloved hands? I'm sorry to be asking so many probably basic questions, but I'd really like them to turn out great for my kids. I think I've surprised myself and they turned out amazing, so I also really don't want to wreck them. I have normal Just Resin. I really hope you can help me, please Sue? ❤🥰

    Another beautiful video. Thank you so much. Can I please ask where you get your plastic from? I am struggling to find plastic sheet without creases. I even purchased shower curtains but they have the fold creases. I used cellophone and the resin stuck to it. Maybe it was too thin. Kindly let me know. Thank you.

      I am using cellophane, as you have come to know, some resins stick to cellophane, so you need to test it out before use. I buy mine from a florist supplier. 💕

    Hi, don't know if you are going to see this since your video is 2 years old already... love the lamp shade... but have two questions... is it possible to cut the edge of the resin and when/how would you do that? Say you would like a straight cut around the bottom or even flower petals shapes (or something like that) instead of the free-form edge you have. what would you use to cut it (if you can) and when would you attempt to do it? Thanks!

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have cut resin after it had cured. You need to warm the resin with a heat gun or hair dryer before cutting to avoid the resin breaking. It is easier to create the shape you want before pouring. Cutting resin is a bit tough on the hands. 😁

      @@SueFindlay HI!! I want to end up with exactly cut and formed shapes out of resined fabric... somewhat like what you are doing here but with fabric in it and with very precise edges and shapes because they are then going to be inset into another larger piece of art...I can't have any resin running past the edge of the fabric edges.... my idea was to cut the fabric shapes a little oversized and put resin on them (flat) and then after the 3-4 hr short wait be able to form them over a shape for final curing... I thought I would be able to trim up the edges of the resin/fabric piece to its exact pattern edge so I at the time I put it on the form so it will harden to the exact size/shape I need...but I'm wondering if it's easy to trim at that flexible phase...or if it is to hard to cut precisely then.... guess I should just go for it and do some experiments!! :-) thanks!!

    Hi Sue, my name is Ally.
    I live in Amble, Northumberland, Uk.
    I watch your youtube channel and I would like to try resin art. I bought a small kit to try. My first go was a totally disaster 😂 but that's only made me more determined to succeed. I was hoping for a bit of advice on buying some resin. I can't purchase the resin you use as they don't ship out of Australia. I will be buying from Amazon Uk. There are so many different ones with different ratios.
