    I subscribed immediately. I'll tell you why. 1) You have a very nice manner. 2) Your message was clear and short as well as a concise example. An added bonus for me is I'm playing tenor. It is just easier to follow and frankly easier on the ears.
    I want to be free. I force myself to keep reading, but my natural inclination is to use my ears. Finally your approach is very appealing.

      Thank you so much, Josh! I'm happy you enjoyed the video. I'm working on more this week. Tell me what you mean by forcing yourself to read. Are you reading exercises from a book?

    • @joshcharlat850
      @joshcharlat850 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jojopt2 I mean reading music in general. I like to refer to how the composer intended a song to be played. (Yes, Fake Books are often inaccurate.) But I may have a song in my mind because I listen to many recordings, and then I discover that I have it wrong. Playing improvised music allows for a lot of freedom, but I want to know exactly what someone like Cole Porter wrote. It might be better. But also exercises too.

    Love the video-- especially because it's pretty much what I've been doing the past 6 months-- that is, getting used to going through basic enclosure patterns, and modulating on various patterns. You have nice tone, dude. Can't wait for your next video. Peace.

      Thanks for listening, Michael! I appreciate that you are digging my tone! Keep me posted on how the patterns are coming along.

      @@jojopt2 We'll do, brother. Liked your solo on 'N.Y. State of Mind', (what little that was provided, that is.) Think about posting the entire number. I realize what was posted is the tail section of that particular number. Peace

    I really like this exercise. It gives you a focused lick to work on but at the same time you're working on your creativity what a great concept. I am a teacher tutor and I might use something similar with my students. Thanks a lot for sharing this

    Great advice. Once you get it down chromatically, do it in whole steps, minor thirds, and perfect fourths.

    I used to live in Austin 20 years ago. Does Joe Morales still play? Do you still have the weekly jam sessions on Monday at the Elephant room?

    • @jojopt2
      @jojopt2  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, Joe is still very active in Austin and he sounds great! The Monday jam at The Elephant Room is still going strong too! I play there at the end of this month!

    Hi, can I try this with any scale? Does the enclosure have to follow the pattern of the scale.? (I love your presentation manner) Thank you.

    • @jojopt2
      @jojopt2  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I apply this to major, minor and dominant scales. A good way to start with different scales is to use the 1,3,5 or 7 as target notes to enclose around. The enclosure can come from any direction. I just try to play the same one every time if I'm drilling a particular shape. Hope this helps!! Thanks for listening!!

      It’s a Nexus Select tenor. Same model Chad LB plays. I really dig it! Check out the unboxing video I made for it here.
