  • Yes I am serious. My V8 BMW was smoking randomly and burning oil.
    Now it is fully and professionally fixed for under $20.
    No additives or tricks just replacing a simple part.
    While these were torn in my BMW and they gave me a smoother idle and helped. I also had issues with valve stem seals, but so worth a try

    4.8 L V8 BMW X5 2010 - smoking on idle and start-up watched this video and figured why not change out the PCV diaphragm first, bought a pair for under $20, and wouldn't you know it, my drivers side PCV was ripped almost in half like the video. Installed the new diaphragms and no more smoke on startup or idling in the drive thru. Well worth swapping these out and a DIY job, just to eliminate the variable. I haven't seen any more smoke, been about a week, so I think it has solved my issue. (Better than the expensive Valve seal job for sure!) Thanks Mark, great video, helped me out a bunch! Cheers!

      would like to know the answer to the question about the white smoke. mine is white smoke as well from the tail pipe. but yesterday under the hood smoke was coming out a small area that looked and felt like rope? going from one spot to another it was very short, at first i thought it was a rope that was getting stuck burning to the engine but it was actually connected to something and right where it was connected smoke would come out. can anyone help me figure this out? i just purchased this 2007 328i bmw with 127k miles on it. needs new shocks as well lol i feel like i’m in a boat 😭

Check out AGA rental tools to complete the repair yourself especially if you don't want to remove the cams on your engine. Newbies can also do this job! I also have a mercedes b class 180 cdi driven 236,000 km and it uses minimal oil, and I also feel that it has more quality than an x3 in every way. I've searched the internet and found various videos of why it cost so much because of the very very intense labor work. One video had the mechanic dropping the entire engine and drive train to get to the stems and even then it took them several hours (5) to get to the stems. If anyone has any recommendations on how I can save a bit of money I would greatly appreciate it.

      Buy the valve cover gasket kit for both sides and Have someone replace all valve cover gaskets and timing chain cover gaskets. All the rubber seals are going bad and causing a vacuum and oil leak. Those engines have to be sealed tight. Mechanics and dealerships know that valve stem seal leaks oil into the cylinder only when the engine has set for a hours or a day and when you start the engine it smokes and then it clears up. Not when you’re at a red light at idle. It’s a big money maker if you don’t know. Just find a decent mechanic not a dealership, buy the gaskets yourself and tell them to put the valve cover gasket set on. You’re save a ton of money. Thank me later. Be blessed

      You can buy an oil additive that's supposed to revive the oil stem seals. I don't know how well it works but it all depends if a big repair job costs more than car's worth. I just noticed you posted 4yrs ago, did you get it sorted?

    • @Marksreviewsandtutorials
      @Marksreviewsandtutorials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miguel Espejel I replaced the PCV valve here and there were two. One on each bank of the engine.
      The other common thing to replace when a bmw smokes is the valve stem seals. There are the same number of those in your engine as there are valves.
      Engine valves are something different again. In each cylinder there are valves to let fuel in and valves to let exhaust fumes out.

    Hi, I have a 2007 E90. Same problem. Changed the CCV and pipes today. Took out for a test run for a few miles. Still same problem. Do you think the car needs a long drive to get rid of any old oil sitting around?

    • @Marksreviewsandtutorials
      @Marksreviewsandtutorials  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shoot Film Like a Boss. Shortly after I shot this video the problem came back, it was fine then all of a sudden it had a massive smoking session again. Turns out the PCV valves were shot as it shows here but my car also had valve stem seals that had failed. So my car needed both.
      I was advised by two different mechanics that maybe I just needed to take the car out for a drive to clear it which I did. But because the valve stem seals had also gone it made no difference.

      What do you mean by injector? I have e90 n47 and have problem with oil consumption, on upper side off motor (upper from head gasket), below injectors have little bit of liquid, diesel probably, need to replace seals, but can that be problem for oil consumption? Also read somewhere that it can be dpf sensor problem that it burns oil, i seen that my car is every few days turning on dpf reg. On dashboard, can that be problem? And if you know how can i test it to be sure that it is or not dpf filter that burns oil? I will be gratefull for any tips if you have regardles my problem, because lot of peoples in my county say if it start using oil it is turbo, but when i unplugged house from turbo there was little to non oil after i drove for 20km and no lower power, so i think that it is not a turbo problem

    • @Marksreviewsandtutorials
      @Marksreviewsandtutorials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there Shevani When you say oil leaked through the exhaust?
      If it was/is a lot Then it could be a major fail inside your engine? If you have increased the boost with Turbo then this risk is also greatly increased.
      So this could be blown head gasket or even rings on the pistons. Both of these things are there to separate the oil from the cylinder then exhaust. So if they fail then you can get lots of oil through

    • @shevanipadayachee8141

      tim kaminski , u have different rings on a piston , compression rings and the lower level rings that keep oil out of the combustion chamber. So even if oil rings were worn u will not loose power , but if the rings were the problem , it would smoke all the time , in fact the more gas u give the car the more smoke u will see .

      Zed S on my n54 is was the pcv on the valve cover that was blown. I could push air through it both ways. $40 later for an alloy upgrade one, all smoke gone, oil consumption completely stopped, so, not always valve seals. If you take your pcv off and its torn and pushes air both ways its trash
