Yeah dude, this cat is a very good drum teacher. He is an even better teacher than he is a drummer. I mean that as a compliment. A lot of guys have trouble describing what they are doing, especially with their feet. But this guy explains everything in a way that everyone can understand. He is an extremely good teacher.
+MorganvanHelsing Thank you for the great videos! That square pattern of tape that you put on the resonant heads of your toms... is it to control resonance?
your tutorials are great @Morganvanhelsing I'm still learning your double bass tecnique. i've been playing drumms for 12 years but never been super great at drums. i play in a heavy metal band now and i love playing in it but i've never learned to play double bass pedal. only single. so the struggle with double is there but it gets better as time goes! And if it werent for you i would never have learned to play blast beats or how to use the double bass correctly! so it's much appriciated! Alot of respect from norway brother! :)
Your explanations make a lot more sense than many on TH-cam, including mike Johnston. I found him difficult to follow. Yours are straight forward. The only challenge is me picking up speed on all your techniques. :-D. Good work Nechtan
Out of all half taught lessons others give to sell their stuff and paid sites, only your technique make sense. Infact, they all worked for me and I hope others might have got the benefit...Great going and thank you. Yes! Making your push-pull hand and hill-toe feet technique is getting difficult to coordinate. Why don't you do a lesson on coordination of those techniques. Thanks again.
Thanks for writing "impressing" instead of "impressive", so that leaves me with an imperfection to point ^^ Seriously, man, if you had a Patreon, I'd subscribe right now, and I'm probably not alone.
I just don't get why you don't have WAAAAY more subscribers!! I always tell EVERYONE to look you up on TH-cam if they want to know who I think the best drummer is!!
can you give me some tips for playin 2 pedals/blastbeat which not make my leg/arms going hurt? or do you have any advice for me? my legs/arms gonna hurt when Im doing Blast beat n twin pedals only in 2 minutes
HAHA!! You RULE! Why cant you just market your clone so we can all purchase you for all our bad ass drumming needs! All your videos are awesome. Thank you!
Actually yes...my music studio just happens to have a drummer cloning machine isnt that interesting? The only thing is people tend to not wanna leave, so pack for a long trip and be prepared for ample amounts of Meshuggah! lol
I was just surfing through random videos and man you inspire me to practice more! hey thanks for sharing your techniques and talents. And also if no one has ever told you, God loves you man! Freedom in Christ Jesus is real. keep up the awsome drumming!
has your band done any studio recordings? i don't want to sound blasphemous :D because i know you love metal music but actually, i imagine some sort of music where your drumming is really out in front - not overtaken by any other instruments or voice etc. really wild chord progressions - like wild jazz chord progressions or something and some odd meters thrown in too... together with your insane beats. its hard to imagine but i enjoy trying. i don't know maybe it just wouldn't work
+CallDwn theSky Well... I have not only one but a whole bunch of bands. But the number of releases I play drums on is very small: Just some demos and two self-released albums by Aletrun so far. However there is a high-quality demo from my band Project Ni upcoming that will feature "wild chord progressions" and some odd meters - but only a limited amount of blast beats ;) You can get a little first impression of drums and guitar here (that is not the actual recording and was more some preproduction jam): th-cam.com/video/Sa0OZF1_ZEc/w-d-xo.html
If you are really good and fast with your single pedal yes! If you are not you can also modify the fill and play only one kick note so that you have triplets.
at 4:05: "Enjoy the sound of chaos..." Ooh yeah!! It's more like playing like an octopus than with a pair of arms and a pair of legs... Really ultra heavy / brutal! Just asking, Sir: how may years of practice brought you so close to the stars?
+kiloose85 I really love double bass drumming and it gives me so much more possibilities on the drumkit - I really cannot imagin why anyone would like to play drums without a double pedal :D Even in Jazz and Funk you can do amazingly groovy stuff with two pedals. If you want to use only one pedal you can e.g. play triplet fills like this: right hand - left hand - bass drum - right hend - left hand - bass drum. You can also learn to play the basic version in this tutorial with just one foot.

Fraction fills are the goto fill in metal.
I love watching your videos! So insightful!
Thank you!
+MorganvanHelsing Thank you for the great videos! That square pattern of tape that you put on the resonant heads of your toms... is it to control resonance?
Yes, it just dampens the resonance a bit.
Wanja [Nechtan] Gröger do you use a specific tape?
Makes it look so easy

What toms, snare, and cymbals are these?
Thanks for writing "impressing" instead of "impressive", so that leaves me with an imperfection to point ^^ Seriously, man, if you had a Patreon, I'd subscribe right now, and I'm probably not alone.

Known as the "Portnoy Fills". It always sounds amazing even if it is done the simplest way. :D
what drum beat is that before the fill in the begening
can you give me some tips for playin 2 pedals/blastbeat which not make my leg/arms going hurt? or do you have any advice for me?
my legs/arms gonna hurt when Im doing Blast beat n twin pedals only in 2 minutes
Practice really, as long as your technique is correct your wrists and ankles will get stronger and be able to play for longer periods of time
thank you bro, I will try it
I love it thanx man
Pulled off this fill in sometime ago, but it sucks having only two toms.
Finally the fill i was looking for. Kinda embarrassed to know its that easy

What earplugs do you use?
If I remember correctly I use this ones: www.thomann.de/de/shure_se215cl.htm?ref=search_rslt_se215_262382_1
Thanks, I really appreciate.
This is in shattering the skies above by trivium
Can you do this with a single kick pedal ?
Yes, but not as fast as with a double pedal.
You are a superb drummer and a very nice guy/great person. Thanks for the tips! #ugotskillz
HAHA!! You RULE! Why cant you just market your clone so we can all purchase you for all our bad ass drumming needs! All your videos are awesome. Thank you!
Thanks, I will think about that. Is there maybe a good cloning facility you can recommand?
Actually yes...my music studio just happens to have a drummer cloning machine isnt that interesting? The only thing is people tend to not wanna leave, so pack for a long trip and be prepared for ample amounts of Meshuggah! lol
I just started drumming yesterday. I think if I practice for during 1 week, I can reach yourlevel.
Fran Barrios have you reached his level?

+MorganvanHelsing ok thank's i already start to learn triplets :)
kiloose85 you can also perform it with one pedal
if your a deathcore drummer just double time this fill and put a bell sound at the end of the fill
anjinggg..... kerenn !!!
I don't have double bass
Have only single bass drum!!
My Tee Shirt is worn out. I may need a replacement. I really should break out the drums before my Grandchild is an adult.
I try and try and try and it always turns to shit for me.
Start very very slow and be patient, then you will become better and better :)
I'm a beginner and can't do that hahaha
The title should be "how to play portnoy fills?"
"with double bass"
a very gifted drummer,... not like me
Usually skill is not gifted, but earned - put in enough effort and you will become better and better ;)
@@wanjanechtangroeger Thanks for the good advice. I will take this into consideration ⚒
