Gonna say something weird and maybe controversial here: there has been no sonic game like SA1. SA2 came pretty close, but there is something different in the priorities and pacing. SA1 is an even split between speed and platforming. SA2 upped the speed a bit. It also has amazing set pieces that have been copied or mimicked since. Also, a non-controversial take: best 3d tails gameplay out of all the 3d games. SA2 tails is just slow e102, and every game since he's been tossing out rings for some reason. Sonic Team needs to review this game greatly when they make another adventure style game. A wonderful even split between speed, platforming, and set pieces.
Agreed. SA2 speed stages are arguably better than SA1 but holy shit did they mess up hunting and mech gameplay in SA2 by focusing on the wrong things. Knuckles Stages too easy?Neuter the radar and then make the later stages fuckhuge. Gamma stages too short? Okay now mechs are ungodly weighty and slow
It's important to note that SA1's development started for Saturn and that the game was going to be a bit slower due to limitations. Almost nothing from that stage made it into the final game aside from a few animations, an unused model and the models for Sonic and Tails in Sky Chase. However, I think the platforming-oriented design philosophy might be a remnant from that era because they had to make the slower controls interesting.
@@DrMasterAlexThe level design for Knuckles' stages in SA2 is pretty damn good, too. If you can get a mod that restores the SA1 radar, give it a shot. Makes it a lot more fun to go for A ranks on those levels.
I think SA2 is better because it’s more focused. Yes we did loose on running through more open level but at least there’s no casino, windy valley, casinopolis, lost world or Amy/Big levels. A fair trade.
Was on a short vacation past week but am back. :) SA2 animations are kinda trippy in SA1. Knuckles and Metal Sonic are probably my favorite, while Amy looks the oddest due to the speed difference of the two games.
The only complaint I have with this is that canonically Tails will have no upgrades because most of them are on the Tornado. But great mod nonetheless. They look clean.
I already commented this on Sora's release video, but I will say it here anyway: The SA2 models look much more nicer and fit SA better than the DX models. They should've just used the SA2 models for SADX in the first place

Man! I forgot how great the "Going Down" segment of speed highway was. It was so incredibly peak when this was originally on dreamcast.
If you use the boost mod in that part, it goes crazy fast!
