Adrian Doherty was one of the most talented players ever to come through Manchester United’s academy. Injury would deny him the opportunity to ever make a first-team appearance, though, and his wandering spirit would take him far away from the game before his tragic death at just 26.

I went to school with a kid who really could've been a Zlatan, Suarez or Lewandowski, he was a beast. Its quite sad actually, he'd regularly trained with the England U16s at the age of 14, he played for the Nottingham Forest academy etc.But in his mid teens he befriended the wrong crowd. By the time he was 18, he'd been released by Forest because of his off field antics. He's now serving 10yrs sentence for his role in a £1,000,000 cocaine distribution plot. It just baffles me. He had the talent but, it just seems like he enjoyed drug dealing even more.

I used to Watch Adrian play alongside Brendan Rodgers (Who then went to Reading) as my Older brother Captained the Moorfield FC team. I used to get brought to all their games as a child & remember how pacy & skillful Adrian was. He would torment any team on his own on his mazy runs... And you just knew the end product was going to end in a Goal. Unreal player of his generation.. and a Joy & Pleasure to have witnessed it. A quiet boy he was but did his talking on the Pitch. R.I.P Adrian.

A fellow Tyrone man told me to read this book when we were in the pub when living briefly in Canada. He told me it was a story of a young man who came from where we did who would’ve been the best player to come from here since George Best. A year later that friend tragically drowned, horribly similar to what happened to Adrian. Life is fragile. Cherish those close to you. RIP Adrian. RIP Lee.

I used to watch Adrian in the youth team at United, a family friend was the goalkeeper in that team (Ian Wilkinson, whose own story is also pretty sad from a football perspective). Adrian was easily the standout performer in that team, ahead of Ryan Giggs (or Ryan Wilson as he was known at the time), Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Robbie Savage, etc. David Beckham wasn't even a regular starter in that team! Such a sad story that first his career was lost to injury and then his life lost at such a young age. What could have been. RIP Doc!

Having been to the Netherlands many times...I always wonder why they don´t put handrails around most of their city water channels....I have even seen cranes taking out cars from the channels.
In Amsterdam´s famous red light district they even have lifebuoys hanging from street lights that you can throw to people who fall in...but no handrails around most of the channels, specially those where there are houseboats...truly bizarre

I don't care much for the tactical videos or the sensible transfer series. Give me more of this content please!

Grew in the town I live in...his sister taught me English in school and his brother who I also know, played the main stage of Glastonbury. You'll never meet an more intelligent family...I would have loved him to have play for the first team and for utd!

He was just like me as a kid. Loved music, bright, and a great football talent but ruined by injuries. In my case, seizures and epilepsy caused by hereditary genes ruined my career.

What a sad story! So many young footballers had their careers cut short by injuries and they never recovered and had to exit the beautiful game. It shows how unpredictable life can be.

We need more football players (and managers) with an appreciation for art. Liverpool fan here, was lowkey disappointed when Klopp said his favorite films were Rocky and Forrest Gump, when he comes from a country that has excellent filmmakers like Werner Herzog, Reiner Fassbender and Wolfgang Petersen.
(I actually had to add in the managers bit when I realised I used Klopp as an example).

Werner Herzog is still going strong. Fassbender was so prolific in his relatively short time. Both brilliant directors.
