    I made this for my family last night and they absolutely loved it. It was my first Indian dish I've made, and the whole house smelled amazing! I served it with some rice and Lachha Paratha. Luckily I made a double batch, because I can't wait to have some more for lunch! It's now a staple recipe - thank you!

    I just got back home after driving a 50 mile round trip to an Indian grocery store to buy all the ingredients to make this recipe. Saagwala is my favorite Indian dish and I always have it when I go to an Indian restaurant.....but this will be my first time making it at home, or any Indian dish for that matter. I've watched quite a few other TH-cam videos for making this dish and yours is the one I've decided to go with because your recipe is no-fuss no-muss and simple. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    I've made this yesterday and my husband loved it. This dish turned out very delicious. I've only made little bit of modification which is which grinding the Palak I've added some coriander leaves and also some green chillies. The dish turned out great. Thanks for the amazing recipe Ma'am

    Beautiful! But i'm feeling like i want to let the chicken cook in the spices without the spinach first. Then add in the spinach just 2min before switching off stove. So the spinach dont overcook. Really great and healthy recipe! Thank you so much!!

      I agree. Though, the taste was exactly what I wanted, the spinach lost that beautiful color it had when I initially added it.

    Great recipe, came out really nice. I did use much less water to boil the spinach, and saved it to add to the curry later in order to not throw away all the nutrients with the water. I just put it in with a few ice cubes until the cubes melt and put that water with the spinach into the blender. That way you don't lose tons of good nutrients in the water.

    I made this dish tonight, and used black cumin seeds (shahi jeera) as she instructed. Thank goodness I tasted the masala before I put the chicken in - it was disgustingly bitter! I tasted a few of the black cumin seeds, and it was the culprit. Thank goodness I did not waste the chicken. I am going to redo this tomorrow with regular cumin seeds. Unfortunately I wasted over an hour with preparations and masala cooking. . . oh well, lesson learnt!

      telling from the disgusting taste comment, it is obvious you were sold kali zeeri instead of kalazeera. The kali zeeri is horrible in taste, same thing happened to me. Just forgo the shah zeera part and use ordinary safed zeera and you will be fine.

    Love the presentation! Question: In the video, one of the whole spices you mentioned was black cumin seeds. Are these "Shah Jeera" seeds (Caraway seeds) or standard "Jeera" seeds (Common cumin seeds)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • @Dr.Nagyonfaj
      @Dr.Nagyonfaj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marcus - just wanted to give you my take, as I just tried to make this using black cumin seeds (shahi jeera) as she mentioned in the videos. It was so bitter, I had to throw the entire masala away. I'm so glad I tasted it before I put the chicken in! Actually, shahi jeera (Bunium Bulbocastanum) is not the same as caraway seeds (which is Carum Carvi), though often confused. I guess it's more commonly used in smaller quantities in spice mixes, where the bitterness is tempered by the addition of other spices - but alone, and in this quantity - it made the dish absolutely inedible! I'm going to retry using regular cumin tomorrow :-)

    Your recipe asked for "2 tbsp. Chilli powder." Are you sure it wasn't supposed to be teaspoons? I put only 1 tbsp and it was too hot to eat. Have looked at several other videos and they all had teaspoon measurements for chili. Do you think you could edit your details so others won't make the same mistake, Cheers,

    What about water in which spinach was boiled? Nutrients wasted? Sorry I mean the dish looks delicious and I will try it soon but I think adding that water back to have some gravy would retain the nutrients.

    • @HostileTakeover2
      @HostileTakeover2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Common misconception. Blanching spinach doesn't remove the nutrients. Fully boiling it for awhile can, but not a quick blanch. In the case of spinach, blanching kills some of the enzymes that cause it to wilt quickly, but more importantly it reduces the large amount of soluble oxalates that can block you from absorbing some of the other minerals in the spinach. The short time in the water is too quick for the other vitamins & minerals to leech out as they take time. So in effect, blanching actually enhances the nutritional value.

    This recipe seems to include too much spice and not enough spinach. Also, it doesn’t match the recipe in the description. For example, the video says 2 teaspoons of chili powder, but the recipe calls for 2 tablespoons (way too much).

    But don't you think that it was be better to let the chicken cook in the spice and marsala mix and add the spinach at the last stage.? Overcooking spinach destroys the vitamins and iron in it

    • @silverkorv
      @silverkorv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jaisekhar Nair that is wrong. You cannot destroy the iron. Actually cooked greens give of iron easier as it is bound to fibres that breaks down in heat and is easier to absorb in your small intestine.

    How is this dish nutritious?!!
    You blanched the spinach and soaked it in ice bath for 5 minutes.....all the water soluble Vit A and Iron in the Spinach went down the drain! All you were left is with some roughage in Spinach.
    Bad cooking practices and lack of knowledge of nutritional science is so prevalent!
