- Soji or Vonn (also Vorne) is a Goan sweet dish prepared (basically) with lentils, rice, coconut milk and jaggery, and further flavored and accessorized with cardamom, cashew nuts and, at times, turmeric leaves and sago pearls. Also known as 'Kazarachi Dal', Soji may also find its spot on the feasting table at other family gatherings like baptisms, first communions and other church/community feasts.
A more traditional way of making Soji uses broken wheat instead of the lentils. The recipe in the video is comparatively quicker to prepare; extracting coconut milk is not as difficult as it would seem, but if needed, it can be substituted by commercially sold coconut milk.

Ingredients:
1&1/2 cups or 200 grams Rice Flour
3/4 cup or 175 grams Split Bengal Gram (Chana Dal) soaked for at least 4-5 hours/overnight
1 cup or 240 grams Cane Sugar (Yellow Jaggery)
1/4 cup or 60 grams Palm Jaggery
2 cups or 200 grams Freshly Grated Coconut
10-12 Cashewnuts, halved or chopped
1 teaspoon Salt (adjust as required)
1/2 teaspoon Green Cardamom Powder (Elaichi powder) - alter as desired

vonn or as it is called in Goan hindu house , "varan" is too good with sheeth ( rice ) alongwith papad ,batatachi fodi (potato shallow fried chips) aani lonche(pickle) .best florency 👌
No this is a sweet dish served at before wedding roce ritual.
that sweet dish with bengal daal gram,jaggery is not called vonn aur varan its called kann in goan hindu kitchen.
vonn or varan means one which is mixed with rice and eaten like curry.
m goan and from my mother i learnt these and eaten ,both for decades.@@juliethomas2765
Its called kadan or kanna at my place.
In goa also its called Kann by hindus.christians as in video they called mayb vorne.
But Goan hindus called vorne to curry like dish made from turdaal to be mixed with rice and eaten.this is not sweet.

It looks same as mangane. But instead of Rice. Flour we use shabutadul. Hindu or Christian's but dishes remain the same
After adding the flour d mixture didn't even come to a boil let alone cook. Vonn doesn't become ready in just 5-6 mins. It needs to boil n splatter. Then only it will become thick. Also d coconut quantity used is way too less for 200 gms of flour.
