Benelli Leoncino 500 Test Ride - A Gentlemen's Motard

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 พ.ย. 2024
- I have wanted to ride the Benelli Leoncino ever since i seen the first photos. Its basically a Gentlemen's Motard. Special Thanks to Raceway Motorcycles in Niddrie who called me and told me the Demo bike is available for a ride. This video is mainly for myself, as its a bike i am looking to buy, slap a exhaust on and have some fun with. Hopefully someone watching this video gets some advice or info they have been seeking about this model. The bike is LAMS approved in Australia, meaning you are allowed to ride it on your " L Plates".
Who is BikeStuff?? - Im just a guy who loves motorcycles, this channel is all about bikes i ride, film, test, review, fix and discuss. I do not represent a business or organisation but an ideology that everyone needs a bike in their life!. Thankyou for reading this family friendly message :-)
I could listen to the sound of this bike all day
yeah its nice hey
That's the best, smoothest sounding parallel twin ever. Might even pass off as an inline 4.
Yeah Benelli have a 800cc version coming
Hello Everyone, Can i ask where are you watching this from? Seems alot of viewers from India love the Leoncino
im from vietnam, and im also like leoncino from the first sight, but now honda bring the rebel 500 so i really confuse :< can you make a review and compare those 2 bikes
I would prefer the Benelli, the Rebel 500 is a cruiser compared to this.
Thanks for the advice. In vietnam, most of us dont trust china stuff must, so when the benelli first come out we all consider about there quality.
I understand that you are unsure about the quality of the Chinese bike but China has come along way in production quality in the last 10 years. BMW scooters are now made in China. Benelli said they have a 800cc version of the Leoncino coming, that would be great to ride.
So should i wait until 800 release, or take that 500 now.
This is my third season with my Leoncino 500. It's great. No worries. Over 18000 kms now.
awesome, thats great news.
I have one but I agree the clutch can be quite tiresome how did you solve this?
@@josephpaoo4889 I think it is easy. No problems.
WOW 100k+ Views. Thank You!. I didn't expect the Benello Leoncino video to gain so much attention. I have a question for you all who watched. What did you like about the video? What would you like to see in future videos?
I have the leoncino for nearly one year now. 7500 km. I like your Video but you could go more in the Details. The light for example do switch on and Off by themselves and they do not switch from 0 to 100 percent, they switch kind of slowly. I am 75 kg and for light riders like me the suspension ist quite stiff xD i am fine with it but it is not the best setup for long distance. I have changed the interior of the seat (softer) that helped alot. This ist my first bike ever so i can not compare it but i sometimes have problems with changing from 1 to second Gear, sometimes it goes in neutral. Still love the bike. Like how it Looks, Sounds, drives and for 500ccm its really fast. I can chase alot of people with 1000 ccm because they often are heavy. ( Bike with Rider) of course they pull away on a straight Road but thats not why i Drive. ;)
Mostly Indian could watch this video as it is recently launched in India. Your videos are awesome. Try to give information about Exhaust sound, top speed, mileage
@@MoorthiSukumar Declared top speed is 154 km/h, but I have seen some videos and it can go up to 165 km/h at max rpm
Spot on review mate. It really is a top bike. They fixed up the rear brake after our feedback,
leoncino means small lion in italian, hence the lions on the frnt fender, I'm just waiting for the trail version to come out, love the spoked wheels
yeha the spoked rim version looks good.
lion cub or baby surely? not small!
toorest trikie actually both
fair enough yeah …..but 500cc is a low middle weight!you need a good after market service program in the same way as most modern manufacturers offer! I.E, triumph! where a Bonny might have a 5000 mile service interval and you stick to it? have they got a good rep as far as toughness goes! the bonnie does!
I agree, benelli doesn't have quite the same service coverage as triumph does, we italians and indians may be sort of ok with it, but I strongly doubt other markets would compare as favourably
Leoncino 500 just released in India today, but it was announced last year I suppose. Great review btw. Getting this bike soon :).
Great! india will love it
You sound like corg from Thor Ragnarok..
LOL, thats a New-Zealander (kiwi, moai) - totally different country to Australia mate lol
👍 ya.. i just noticed too 😊

Bore Ragnarok
@@AridersLifeYT that's f**king hilarious! As a Kiwi living in Aussie - can tell you the rural-maori accent by Korg (which is often used for comic value in NZ - and it's loved rather than mocked) is completely different to ANY of the various Aussie accents...
Qld. Great review. I like that you took the seat off, jumped on pillion seat and other things that I haven’t seen others do. I’d like to see you compare with the trail.
I'd love to ride the trail also
I Like the look and sound of this bike...it might be my next bike or style that i would like to go for
Got it as my first big bike, awesome machine!
I’m trying to convince the mrs to get one also
@@AridersLifeYT yeah, it's soft and plush so ladies would enjoy it, although it could be harder when screw on the back is twisted in, I mean rear suspension
Pronounced : Leonnnnn tchino in Italian. Most of the reviewers will pronounce it : Leon ssino. I wrote a very long "Leonnnnnn" because in Italian language we love to take our time on some parts of one word, like in English, the tonic accent is important. But do not forget the join your five fingers of one hand and pointed it towards the sky, while pronouncing the word "Leonnnnnnn tchino" you will look like any Italian guy ! Enjoy this bike, lovely little Benelli. Take a look back in the early '80s for the gorgeous Benelli 900 SEI - SEI means SIX... this bike runs the 6 cylinder engine from the company. Very good looking and classic bike. Ride safe.
Thanks for confirming
It has a great sound for a squirt. I saw another bloke doing around 120 in top gear at around 5000rpm and it sounded good then also.
with a aftermarket pipe this would sound awesome
You mean like this th-cam.com/video/TFC0rd-u2eU/w-d-xo.html An intalian guy pronounced it Louw - en - chino the Louw pronounced as in louse. :)
forvo.com/word/leoncino/
I would make a High mount exhaust for it. i dont like the low mount.
Correct. 3000 revs at 70 km/h 6000 revs at 140, hence 5000 revs at 120 km/h
Penang,Malaysia love the bike it has that classic look my hubby love it...
Agreed! its a great looking bike.
very nice bike!! Easly to ride every day . Looks very good for me. Luca from Italy.
same here bro, its one bike i'm looking forward to try. I hope they will release it here eventually, they said so a year ago already :/. She will sound fantastic with an exhaust too
I genuinely liked it, a few exhaust videos have showed up on youtube from thailand etc.
A very good vid. Height of seat is 810 mm. But is 270 engine which makes it very unique, it comes in red & black
Yeah its a great sounding bike.
Leoncino is Italian for Little Lion. Is this engine a 360 degree crank?
In love with this machine🙌🏻 support from pakistan
Thankyou
The Benelli TNT 135 just landed here in the US, and my friend ordered one. I'm curious to see how it stacks up against my Grom. The Leoncino looks like a great bike!
I had a chance to demo ride the TNT135 but didnt have enough time.
That's good to hear, I'm sure he will be happy with it! Selfishly I'll be happy if its not quite as good so I'm not jealous. haha
If i had it my way, id own a benelli to complete the grom / z125 set i have.
Andy Owen I'm looking to buy one in California in like 2 months(still in the process of getting my motorcycle license). How did your friend like it so far? Thanks in advance :)
Pratik, dont buy a bike on how it looks. go ride them and decide, each person likes different types of bikes.

yeah the style shows

Love a good passenger seat test mate
Thanks for the feedback everyone, a lot of people seem to like this review. Im glad you do. Did i miss anything?
which helmet camera do u use, that shows all the info on the right?
Hello Gilad, its just a Gopro i incorporated GPS overlay, G meter etc. :-)
Oh, that's cool, I'll try it also. The review is awesome, I wonder how the Benelli against the Ducati Scrambler Sixty?
Yep .. you forgot to mention its Chinese owned and built so will fall apart taking your
money with it : (
How tall are you?
what i like from this bike is the exhaust sound
Yeah sounds nice
A well done video. Very enjoyable :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks macho. In Malaysia, it's almost the same price as the rebel and vulcan S (about USD7.5k). Now it has made my choice harder.
I prefer the Benelli Trail version. I has longer suspension
mahal babi
Thanks for the test ride, I'm 6 feet 3, I'm wondering if this is a good choice for me. really like the design.
It might feel small for you
Yes indeed. You are Top Talk For this one mate. Tra the Leoncino 800 that is a bit higher but design is less elegant. I thought about swapping the other day but the 500 is a masterpiece of Italian design. Reminds me of Pininfarinas Ferrari 308 🥰🤩
Hi! Very nice bike! What is this camera?
hey, this was a gopro hero 4 black.
Beautiful design
Fantastic bike with style! The only concern for me would be the support for spares since Benellis are rare compared to hondas and yamahas for instance..
Great point! seems to come down to how many dealers are in your area
Most Likley Harley Davidson will be selling them ..
Carpi motor in Italy sells spares
Hey there mate! Really appreciate the review.
Can I have your opinion on what bike to get at this price range? I'm currently on the fence between this and the mt-03.
MT03 and the leoncino are 2 totally different bikes. I rode the benelli cause its a bike id wanna buy / ride
The MT 03 is just a naked bike, not a scrambler. One cylinder only. The Leoncino 500 sounds more like a four cylinder. I have it, love it and keep it 🫶
If you had a choice between Leoncino 500 vs CB400SF, which would you take?
Prefer the styling of the Leoncino, but think CB400 might be more engaging.
The clutch lever is way too far, needs adjustment closer in.
They are 2 entirely different engines. High revving 4 cylinder vs high output parallel twin. Id take the leoncino over the cb400. I have ridden both and like the leo more in every way.
Same choice I am dealing with right now. Old CB400SF vs Leoncino vs Bristol Veloce 500
@@carlovillacorta1149 I went CB400SF. It’s to now for sale as LAMS restrictions ending. I test rode them all and the CB was a lot quicker, the styling grew on me and glad I went that choice.
Faux air-cool fins would add character to this bike
i kinda agree and disagree at the same time.
@@AridersLifeYT FYI Jawa motorcycle is going to launch Yezdi motorcycle in India next month
Yezdi 350 ? - such a nice looking classic bike.
@@AridersLifeYT yes it is but the Indian version will have a all new 300cc single cylinder liquid cooled fuel injected 4stroke engine
Cheers for the video mate. What's the price of the bike in AUD? After tax
About $8500 aud
@@AridersLifeYT Is it the 500cc bike or the 250?
@@miorsyahmi this is 500cc
Hey! Know it’s been a while but interested in your thoughts on the Leoncino vs a Royal Enfield interceptor. I’ve ridden them both and they are both great in different ways. Just can’t decide!
I like the benelli a lot more. I’ve ridden the royal Enfield 650 and didn’t like it
@@AridersLifeYT thanks! By the way - loved your description of the Leoncino as a gentleman’s motard. Agree 100% - such a fun little bike.
most welcome
When they bring out the 800cc, try and do a review. It looks decent.
Do you think this bike has plenty power to overtake on a 110kph freeway?
Yeah has more then enough to overtake at 110kph. Id love to demo the 800cc whenever that comes out.
I agrée. I tried it the other day. Definitely plenty of guts but also the 500 still pulls strongly I d say
Nice review.. How about the throttle response at all rev range? Is it accurate?
For the 500cc engine it felt great. i would like to see a more powerful version tho. throttle responce felt predictable for a 500 and thats fine with me
@@AridersLifeYT according to some reviewers this bike pulls strongly, like it was a bigger bike than a 500cc.. do u agree?
@@ilhamsabirin4673 yeah it did feel more powerful then the standard 500
Still collect my money to buy it may be 3 to 4 years from now on.. 💰💵
Hey! I am looking for buying this motorbike? Would you recommend it? I saw a couple of videos and the rider is experiencing some false neutral when changing gears from 1st to 2nd. I see that you haven't experienced that. I'm a bit afraid about the Chinese manufacturing and finished touches...
false neutral from 1st to 2nd might be due to the rider not shifting correctly and hitting neutral OR gearbox oil OR a new gearbox thats clunky and needs to wear in, i did notice that when i rode it but that was because the shifter was aimed too high from factory so i would just drop it 1 notch. apart from that i liked the leoncino
The false neutral thing is actually there but rather when you shift from second to first. From first to second I personally have never experienced any problems.
Repaints to be pointed out that generally the gear shifting is not the smoothest ! It does take a bit of o er average power to do so.
That’s about the only negative aspect of it .
The other one is that the front light is not powerful enough. Hence if you ride a lot in the dark in poorly illuminated roads, it is not the right choice. Sorry to say this
That backseat cruze was part was awsme :P
hanks bud
Wow, I recognized you from the voice! I though you quit TH-cam. Subscribing.
I decided to take a break from it for awhile and started fresh
Freaking awesome key!
Yeah i genuinely liked it also.
A nice video. But what size engine is it? I know Thailand sell them. Im an aussie and spend alot of time in Thailand looking for a nice bike around 500cc. In oz i ride an 2018 fat bob.
Hey Warren, Its a 500cc inline twin
i love the headlight. leoncino or the new cb650r?
TruthHurt - The Leoncino and the CB650r are 2 totally different types of bikes. The leoncino is a 500cc scrambler, designed for mild offroad use and has a parallel twin engine. its more of a street fairing motard mix. The New 2019 Honda CB650R is a neo-cafe racer. its designed for commuting, its not designed to go offroad at all, it has a 4 cylinder engine so it will be a high revving bike. So in short. Leoncino is a scrambler, 650r is a hipster cafe racer-commuter. Your choice.
@@AridersLifeYT yeah. just asking because i already hve harley 883 for cruisin, so maybe leoncino for a little bit trailing and commuting. anycoment on the seating? position wise, comfortable for 1-2 hours ride? im 5'3 thanks!
yeah the leoncino felt comfortable for me.
New update
I bought it today :)))) and im speechless. It's beautiful and strong like a lion :3
congratulations
Thats keilor east, u should try riding the bike uphill on rosehill road, its further down where u took those U turns. Im thinkin of getting TRK 502 for myself. Can u make a video on the trk?

Thankyou foe the positive comment
Good review ..... Love from India Chennai ...
Thankyou
my old 125 had a key like that, it was cool and stuff. but its a pain in the pocket to carry around
I like the key.
Really nice bike. I hope it comes to Colombia with a reasonable price. Nice review. BTW Shouldnt you test the passenger seat with a driver in the driver seat? Even at low spwed that can go really bad.
i have plently of control, im fine
That's a damned good looking bike. Let's see how it runs over time. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 years. As a Chinese bike, if it turns out to be reliable? Benelli will disappear within a few years since a big company will buy them out. It will only take a few million USD at THE MOST. However if sales go poorly? They may not even have to buy them out...
Agreed, honda in australia is grossly overpriced
its italian design made in China. It works for me so far, although its not Honda (which is made in Thailand) and my fuel gauge is broken now :)
Speaking of electric bikes, I hope you upload more wheelie vids soon if you're still in to that. I love seeing those long AF wheelies
Thanks man, i actually sold it, id like another soon
What a great looking bike love the usd forks and twin front brakes too :)
I agree, Lee, the Front brakes were amazing on this bike
Awseome vid, btw how tall are you lad ? Am 6,2 and dont know if this bike will be okay to me
just under 6ft.
Is this a good bike?
yep, it would be a good run around bike
@@AridersLifeYT thanks, some says Benelli is chinese and not reliable, but users are happy i guess
@@bekirilkyaz2368 It depends on what you want to do, just riding around yeah. etc. BMW scooters are made in Taiwan for example and people love those BMW C650 sport scooters. i was actually wanting to buy one
Motard? It sounds pretty torquey but is it heavy? It looks like it.
Yeah, i would define the Leoncino as a Gentlemen's Motard. A more refined distinguished version. Id say it would be about 190kg wet so yes to some people thats heavy however its a small bike thats well balanced. the weight isnt a issue on the freeway either, the higher speeds make it feel planted. I for one genuinely liked it and would seriously consider buying the updated Leoncino Trial version
im between benelli leoncino 250 and yamaha xsr 125. The Yamaha costs more, is the quality that different?
im honestly not sure as i have not ridden the 250 version or the others

@@AridersLifeYT thank you. appreciate your time to reply
This thing sounds so weird. On idle and low revs it's almost like a triple but when you give it more gas it sound more inline4/boxer like.
The the parelle cross plain engine design. Or whatever its called
I like the bike but the best part of this video was the Supra parked in the opposite direction
Meh, those cars are so common they are jus "another car" here.
Yeah you are right but here in Italy you can easily see a Leoncino but there are really few Supras.. btw the correct pronunciation is Leoncino with the C that sounds like Chilly and not like fanCy..
Cheers, i often get that mixed up
It actually rhymes with cappuccino.. Not gonna lie 😂
Cappu cino = glass/mug small,
Leon cino = Lion small
I heard it gives the mileage of 45, is that true? And does the Trail version of this weigh more and cost more than this?
i dont know about Fuel consumption as i only rode it a short time. Yes the Trial version does cost more and has longer suspension, thats the model i wanted to buy because its got offroad rims.
I actually like this rim than that of trail's. But is it possible for a 500cc bike to give a mileage of 45?
Are you testing the benelli 502c also?
Maybe, id have to find one to demo ride, find a mic and such also. the 502c isnt really a bike id own so its not really a bike id look to review.
Are you reviewing the bike or the car?
Huh?
Can you do a test ride on a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650?, Raceway should give you one to try.
I could but i dont have a working gopro, and its a 2hr drive from where i live, sorry. I only went there to demo ride the benelli because i want one for myself :-). I do plan on buying another gopro soon and getting back into it.
@@AridersLifeYT Thanks for the reply. I like your test ride vid and format. How about a test ride of a Honda CB1000R? Do Ballarat have a Honda dealer?

Can you do a review of this motorcycle for hot season? Please
What do you mean? hot season?
BikeStuff I mean during hot season. Like how does it feel like to ride the Leoncino during summer or sunny days where the sky and the road is like in scorching heat. Is the engine too hot between legs during that season? Does it overheat when riding it for 3 hours under the scorching sun? Something like that. Some motorcycles also slow down during intense hot weathers.
@@aceofspades0996 ahh yep, id dare say with the size of the radiator it has. it would be fine in summer. we are in the middle of winter here, so another 4 months or so untill its warmer

Engine break decreases drastically after around 4500 km.
What does it mean...??
@@luckylotus11 it means that after around 4500 km of riding the engine becomes obviously more run in and hence engine break decreases. In other words if before it was enough to close throttle in order to come to an almost standstill for a red traffic light, after the 4500 km mark (approximately of course) you need to break. That means that engine break decreases.
I cannot explain it better mate. Hope you understand .
