As a U11 owner the two things I would add to this review are the incredible internal and external audio capabilities (far exceeding current flagships, including the iPhone 7 Plus which I also own) and the fact that it will have native voice activated Alexa capabilities later this summer (already had Google Assistant). Incredibly well-rounded phone. Highly recommend!
Dag Droomer If this phone had been manufactured and sold by Samsung, it would have been treated as the second coming. If it would have been made by OnePlus you would've seen wall to wall coverage. HTC is treated like an oversight, even when they make a phone this good. Such a lame double standard.

Some of you will say that this is a gimmick, but that's just because it was not implemented by Samsung or Apple first. If you want proof, look at the M8. It had dual cameras 3 years ago and everyone said it was a gimmick, but then the iPhone 7+ comes out with dual cameras and suddenly it's a must have for every phone. Looks to me that HTC is just a few years ahead of its time...

So he says he likes the phone but wouldn't use it because he prefers stock android. But he loves the Galaxy S8? Far from stock android. HTC skin is closer to stock than any other phone outside of Pixel and OnePlus. I've had this phone for 2 weeks and my only minor complaint is lack of headphone jack because I've always had a phone with one . It does have a dongle included and I just need to adjust to it. This review seems half effort. No mention of the audio quality on this phone. 360 audio while recording. And the earbuds that come with the phone are very good. If you don't like or want to use the squeeze feature turn it off.
He didn't even mention the audio zoom feature and the excellent boom sound speakers as well as the really good earbuds with ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION which all are more of a feature IMO than the squeeze function. Edit: He didn't mention that it's IP67 water and dust resistant. :(
Jay Rao agreed, while it's right to talk more about the squeezing feature since it's unique and one of a kind. But sure the audio features of this phone are also top notch and best in class.
This Guy gave the Chinese Op5 more than 10 mins but could find only 6 mins to talk about U11. He was finding it so difficult to praise the phone eventually had to give in otherwise his credibility would have been questioned. I could sense that he was reviewing it for the sake of reviewing bcoz people wanted him to. He is better of reviewing op5 n others where he gets money to sing songs for the phone brand. BTW he was having good time at an event for op5 as if he was the ambassador of One plus not a reviewer. Did not even bothered to describe the other unique features of U11 like 4mics to record 360 degree audio/video recording, unique acoustic zoom focus, boomsound speakers,usonic adaptive noise cancelling earphones n so on.biased paid reviewer he is....shame
The flashlight on the long squeeze is just perfect for me and I got so used to getting it out of my pocket already illuminating that I don't know what to do when i change it

No idea why so many people are flaming the phone, i think it looks really nice. Sure it doesn't have minimum bezels like a G6 or S8, but then again no other phone has it yet. I think HTC did good this year and i hope it shows in sales numbers.
Daniel Mladenov They removed the fucking headphone jack. Why in the world would you do that? Apple had a reason to do it. Because Apple owns lighting port every manufacturer who uses lighting port in their headphones pays Apple so they can use that port. Htc is stupid.
Every year I upgrade to the best flagship phone available IMO (regardless of brand) and this year was no exception... I had a few good options available which included the S8, G6 and the U11... after playing around with my wife's S8, my cousin's G6 and eventually the U11 at my local telco, I decided on the U11... To be totally transparent... the HTC U11 is a stellar phone, as is the G6 and S8. I chose the U11 simply on preference... great screen, good battery, great camera, good looks and a clean UI... the other features is just a bonus. I find myself using the Edge Sense more and more... quite useful. Don't be a sheep... choose whatever suites you and ignore the rest...
I agree, so disappointed. HTC did everything right with the phone. I was playing with it yesterday for a good 30 minutes at a local HTC shop here in Taiwan and it's a solid phone man. Even LG G^ with an older chip is getting more praise than the U11
Ikhsan Hasbi they include a usb c dongle, which also has an added amplifier to listen to music with high impedance headphones. They also include noise cancelling usb headphones. At least they make up for it, Apple would leave you high and dry removing the headphone jack and same with the u ultra. The u11 does make up for it
ZiiTek nothing suites me though... This phone has everything but root... That phone has everything but a headphone jack. The phone over here has some stupid software garbage (cough Samsung Assistant cough). This phone doesn't have an SDcard slot. Oh, that phone won't work with my awesome grandfathered CDMA Sprint plan. Oh wait, this one doesn't have wireless charging. phones suck ass right now imo, especially the rooting/unlocking part. edit: basically I want a full featured phone and no one makes it. I'm frustrated as fuck. That's why I'm still running a G3.

matthew piper I'm not saying he didn't mention any of the good features of the phone, but for example, he spent about 20 seconds talking about the camera, compared to almost minutes of praise for cameras on the Galaxy S8 or LG G6. This further supports what many people have already speculated, which is that HTC is not paying MKBHD nearly as much as LG or Samsung, which is why his reviews on the G6 and S8 are much longer and much more detailed.
matthew piper The only features that he really went into detail about was the display, battery, and camera, but yet he had the time to complain about how large the bezzles were and how shiny the phone is, which are two very small downsides compared to all the great things HTC packed into the U11.

htc u 11 is a fantastic phone. thumbs up. good build quality, beautiful design, great boomsound speakers, water resistent, the best skin for android (htc sense ui), fantastic camera and many more.. its one of the best smartphones of 2017.
HTC may not have features that change the game, but they always have something new, something different. They aren't afraid to not be like every other cookie cutter phone. And while they do it, they have some of the top of the line specs. Ton of respect for HTC, even if it's not the best phone for me.

As an owner of the HTC U11 I just want to say this phone fucking bangs (that's a good thing). If it's caught your attention then I highly recommend looking into it. The camera, the audio, the screen and the software it's all just a joy to use. You will NOT be disappointed.

Honestly the U Ultra isn't that bad as most reviewers stated....way better than the G6 and S8, at least it doesn't turn to complete shit after 3 months of use like samsung and LG phones. I use both the G6 dual sim with quad dac and the U Ultra,and its safe to say to U ultra is the better device. the screen is way better, with live colors,the audio is way better( the quad dac is pure marketing,its doesn't do that much of a difference in terms of sound,the G6 sounds boring) the camera on the G6 is better and that's about it. the 18:9 aspect ratio makes things looks cramped where on the U Ultra everything looks bigger and more natural despite both sporting a 5.7 inch displays.
hey HTC also is putting squeeze features in third party apps like going to chat by squeezing when u r in Instagram n etc! dats really helpful n saves alot of time not at all gimik! totally great👌👍
this phone has the best audio package in any phone wether it's the boomsound speakers, the headphones and via Bluetooth. Not like my current stupid S8 which he loves.. less than a month I treading my S8 with the buzzel king the U11.

I had a pixel XL which I loved .I took a oneplus5 on trial but the camera was not very good . I've now had the u11 for a week and it's like an enhanced pixel phone . Even better camera and that's saying something, great screen on time of 5 to 6 hours and it looks amazing. Audio DAC excellent too which was the pixel weak point. Edge sense becomes totally natural it's excellent for instant camera .
I've had this phone for a year now and I love the squeeze thing! It makes more room on the home screen for other apps and I don't have to exit my app when I want to use my camera. Only negative I've got is that when I take a screenshot I often get those blue dots. But that might be just me squeezing it too hard.
I hate the feature...never set it up...find no need for it. A "gimmick" IMO. No o/brand followed in their steps. The "blue dots" is just what you indicated...you're squeezing it too hard.
@Marques Brownlee... First time ever, i kind of downvoted your review... I feel you are little biased on the bezel less and towards top brands... I strongly feel if this squeeze would have come from pixel series, you would have loved it... Its just my opinion though... Check it yourself...
HTC are always trying to implement something new, before HTC ONE M7, all the phones was made from plastic and some other shitty materials and no front facing stereo sound, before HTC ONE M8, there was no any phone with dual camera setup. What google pixel or iPhone implement in the resent years?

I'm a 4 year user of the HTC u11+ and I have to say it's such a shame nobody payed attention to this phone. It's just perfect. I'm running Android 9 and while security updates are not a thing anymore, the phone still performs great. It doesn't shut down before it hits the 1% battery level, it still has all its features working (i payed attention to the edge sense in particular) and it still runs extremely smoothly for a phone its age. The build quality rivals if not exceeds that of the iPhones. Too bad HTC died, the u11/u12 line was the last true flagship HTC released and they went out with a bang. Edit: I'm not sure if it has a dac or not but when I connected it to several speakers (via wire), it sounded louder and fuller than Samsung, iPhones and other mainstream basic btch phone out there (EVEN 4-5 YEARS NEWER PHONES). Haven't tested any Sony phone yet regarding this topic, but I think only them can come close or surpass this capability.

I read the comments before watching and was surprised to see so much negativity. But after watching I can understand why to a degree. This video feels rushed just to get to the squeeze feature. Many important features are simply left out: Speakers, Water resistance, Audio, etc. Been a huge fan for a long time but this video just seemed off.

I am a proud owner of hTC U11 phone for almost 4 years now. It was hTC's last phone in India before it quit here. Everyone in India is in to Samsung/Apple/Mi etc. which have loud/aggressive marketing and too much hype. This is mainly why I went with the U11, to be different. hTC are quietly brilliant. The U11 is an excellent phone with superb camera. I have not reason to upgrade to another phone but will use the U11 as long as it lasts - till its last breath!
U11 is the highest rated smartphone ever in DxOMark history, great display and construction, awesome audio quality, one of best interface.... lame review, sorry.
What does it equal then??? Fantasy world camera performance??? Not saying that DXOMARK is right, but your comment makes no sense. They give scores for phones camera after taking pictures in various situations. If their scores is right or not, 90% of users will not be able to tell. Most smartphone users can't tell the difference between a good camera from 2015 and a good camera from 2017. From experience I can tell you that Samsung pictures are not accurate, boosting up red colors and greens. If those pictures seem better to untrained eye, it is not accurate and people tend to favore pictures like this as being better. In the end it's a matter of personal preference, but let's give props to DXOMARK, even though that camera is not liked by everyone.
yea and it has a terrible design. Giant bezels, and no second camera. Literally the two biggest trends going on right now and they skipped both of them. Don't even try to defend that. Oh and the lack of a headphone jack on top of that is just the cream on the cake.

I don't think HTC has that much money to invest on new technology like samsung , apple or even one plus (oppo) . However still they are still trying to introduce new technologies with every new flagship. That's what makes HTC great.

Mr.Mobile - this is a real review. Some people prefer iPhone, some prefer Samsung, some people prefer HTC... but a perfect smartphone not existing. This review is so late and quick, you spend one or two hours for this. I bought this phone a week ago, and i love this phone. For me has no issues(battery is good, camera and sound is awersome and a verry customisable), this is a very compact phone. This phone is not for everyone, but which one is? This not a review, just some highlight of some features. You can do this better!
i ride a bike and a quick or long squeeze setting to skip or activate apps would be safer on the road. it needs some work but they should really focus on this feature going forward
Hello Marq, You forgot to review the new unique feature of this phone which is the dual pixel. What I admire about the htc is that they are pioneers in the new trend-changing features. htc was the first to use dual cameras and bothy imaging. htc is also the best one to concern about the quality of the mic and voice recording. GTA Films At lot of people think that the review isn't as good as other reviews, as he focused on the bad sections of the phone where as most of his other reviews have been mostly positive. also the review missed out on key aspects such as sound quality which is usually talks about. The squeeze feature is on I think is on the gimmick side but it does have its benefits and i think this is something that will be incorporated in devices going forward. We have all seen this charging ports changing, form factors, headphone jacks, sd cards etc

As a U11 owner the two things I would add to this review are the incredible internal and external audio capabilities (far exceeding current flagships, including the iPhone 7 Plus which I also own) and the fact that it will have native voice activated Alexa capabilities later this summer (already had Google Assistant). Incredibly well-rounded phone. Highly recommend!

Some of you will say that this is a gimmick, but that's just because it was not implemented by Samsung or Apple first. If you want proof, look at the M8. It had dual cameras 3 years ago and everyone said it was a gimmick, but then the iPhone 7+ comes out with dual cameras and suddenly it's a must have for every phone. Looks to me that HTC is just a few years ahead of its time...

Squeeze is a gimmick. At least for me.
So he says he likes the phone but wouldn't use it because he prefers stock android. But he loves the Galaxy S8? Far from stock android. HTC skin is closer to stock than any other phone outside of Pixel and OnePlus. I've had this phone for 2 weeks and my only minor complaint is lack of headphone jack because I've always had a phone with one . It does have a dongle included and I just need to adjust to it. This review seems half effort. No mention of the audio quality on this phone. 360 audio while recording. And the earbuds that come with the phone are very good. If you don't like or want to use the squeeze feature turn it off.

This is still my main phone and I love it! The squeeze function, which I expected to be a somewhat pointless gimmick, is surprisingly useful.
The flashlight on the long squeeze is just perfect for me and I got so used to getting it out of my pocket already illuminating that I don't know what to do when i change it

Every year I upgrade to the best flagship phone available IMO (regardless of brand) and this year was no exception... I had a few good options available which included the S8, G6 and the U11... after playing around with my wife's S8, my cousin's G6 and eventually the U11 at my local telco, I decided on the U11... To be totally transparent... the HTC U11 is a stellar phone, as is the G6 and S8. I chose the U11 simply on preference... great screen, good battery, great camera, good looks and a clean UI... the other features is just a bonus. I find myself using the Edge Sense more and more... quite useful. Don't be a sheep... choose whatever suites you and ignore the rest...
I agree, so disappointed. HTC did everything right with the phone. I was playing with it yesterday for a good 30 minutes at a local HTC shop here in Taiwan and it's a solid phone man. Even LG G^ with an older chip is getting more praise than the U11

Ikhsan Hasbi they include a usb c dongle, which also has an added amplifier to listen to music with high impedance headphones. They also include noise cancelling usb headphones. At least they make up for it, Apple would leave you high and dry removing the headphone jack and same with the u ultra. The u11 does make up for it

The phone over here has some stupid software garbage (cough Samsung Assistant cough). This phone doesn't have an SDcard slot. Oh, that phone won't work with my awesome grandfathered CDMA Sprint plan. Oh wait, this one doesn't have wireless charging. phones suck ass right now imo, especially the rooting/unlocking part.

htc u 11 is a fantastic phone. thumbs up. good build quality, beautiful design, great boomsound speakers, water resistent, the best skin for android (htc sense ui), fantastic camera and many more.. its one of the best smartphones of 2017.
HTC may not have features that change the game, but they always have something new, something different. They aren't afraid to not be like every other cookie cutter phone. And while they do it, they have some of the top of the line specs. Ton of respect for HTC, even if it's not the best phone for me.
A very poor review.. Did he deliberately forget to mention that it has headset adapter, best ear buds and speakers. But choose to fixate on point of calibrating the squeeze. 😟

Honestly the U Ultra isn't that bad as most reviewers stated....way better than the G6 and S8, at least it doesn't turn to complete shit after 3 months of use like samsung and LG phones.
I use both the G6 dual sim with quad dac and the U Ultra,and its safe to say to U ultra is the better device.
the screen is way better, with live colors,the audio is way better( the quad dac is pure marketing,its doesn't do that much of a difference in terms of sound,the G6 sounds boring) the camera on the G6 is better and that's about it.
the 18:9 aspect ratio makes things looks cramped where on the U Ultra everything looks bigger and more natural despite both sporting a 5.7 inch displays.

I had a pixel XL which I loved .I took a oneplus5 on trial but the camera was not very good . I've now had the u11 for a week and it's like an enhanced pixel phone . Even better camera and that's saying something, great screen on time of 5 to 6 hours and it looks amazing. Audio DAC excellent too which was the pixel weak point. Edge sense becomes totally natural it's excellent for instant camera .
The first phone I loved was the One M8 so I want HTC to do well. I'm happy they outdid the U Ultra.

I've had this phone for a year now and I love the squeeze thing!
It makes more room on the home screen for other apps and I don't have to exit my app when I want to use my camera. Only negative I've got is that when I take a screenshot I often get those blue dots. But that might be just me squeezing it too hard.
I hate the feature...never set it up...find no need for it. A "gimmick" IMO. No o/brand followed in their steps. The "blue dots" is just what you indicated...you're squeezing it too hard.

I'm a 4 year user of the HTC u11+ and I have to say it's such a shame nobody payed attention to this phone. It's just perfect. I'm running Android 9 and while security updates are not a thing anymore, the phone still performs great. It doesn't shut down before it hits the 1% battery level, it still has all its features working (i payed attention to the edge sense in particular) and it still runs extremely smoothly for a phone its age. The build quality rivals if not exceeds that of the iPhones.
Too bad HTC died, the u11/u12 line was the last true flagship HTC released and they went out with a bang.
Edit: I'm not sure if it has a dac or not but when I connected it to several speakers (via wire), it sounded louder and fuller than Samsung, iPhones and other mainstream basic btch phone out there (EVEN 4-5 YEARS NEWER PHONES). Haven't tested any Sony phone yet regarding this topic, but I think only them can come close or surpass this capability.

I read the comments before watching and was surprised to see so much negativity. But after watching I can understand why to a degree. This video feels rushed just to get to the squeeze feature. Many important features are simply left out: Speakers, Water resistance, Audio, etc. Been a huge fan for a long time but this video just seemed off.

Hi. What about battery? I've HTC One M7 about 5 years. Now I wanna change it. Battery was not good on One M7. What about U11? Or which HTC is the best?
So, is HTC not paying you as much as the other companies?
I am a proud owner of hTC U11 phone for almost 4 years now. It was hTC's last phone in India before it quit here. Everyone in India is in to Samsung/Apple/Mi etc. which have loud/aggressive marketing and too much hype. This is mainly why I went with the U11, to be different. hTC are quietly brilliant. The U11 is an excellent phone with superb camera. I have not reason to upgrade to another phone but will use the U11 as long as it lasts - till its last breath!
U11 is the highest rated smartphone ever in DxOMark history, great display and construction, awesome audio quality, one of best interface.... lame review, sorry.

What does it equal then??? Fantasy world camera performance??? Not saying that DXOMARK is right, but your comment makes no sense. They give scores for phones camera after taking pictures in various situations. If their scores is right or not, 90% of users will not be able to tell. Most smartphone users can't tell the difference between a good camera from 2015 and a good camera from 2017. From experience I can tell you that Samsung pictures are not accurate, boosting up red colors and greens. If those pictures seem better to untrained eye, it is not accurate and people tend to favore pictures like this as being better. In the end it's a matter of personal preference, but let's give props to DXOMARK, even though that camera is not liked by everyone.

yea and it has a terrible design. Giant bezels, and no second camera. Literally the two biggest trends going on right now and they skipped both of them. Don't even try to defend that. Oh and the lack of a headphone jack on top of that is just the cream on the cake.

Make a good phone and that's it, don't follow the bullshit everyone else is peddling. Dual cameras are pretty meh as someone who has tried them on a friend's phone, and this annoying and tired tiny bezel chase is so pointless. "Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhh, my phone is a millimeter thick and made almost entirely of glass, how cool. Let me get a Dbrand skin on it so it doesn't shatter if I sneezed while holding it." Some people just can't handle that there can be different opinions and no one has to think exactly like them. Why the hell do you want all phones to become a homogeneous blend of the same shit. Thank God that some manufacturers are doing their own thing, I haven't upgraded in over a year because of how tired the smartphone space is. I'll spend my hard earned money when something interesting comes around, you can buy your extra thin quad-camera phones all you like, I stick to practicality not trends.

HARSH D Tony Toronto I think think the frustration of a lot of his subscribers has been building up over time.Ever since he moved into his new studio his reviews seem rushed and are not as informative but he takes longer to do them, he's probably bored with reviewing phones and just does it to keep his channel growing.His heart doesn't seem to be in it anymore.
It's funny how Bezels became "annoyingly big" simply because of the few devices that made Bezels smaller.
I read all the negative comments, and I can agree with some of them...
BUT, isn't it possible that MKBHD simply doesn't like this phone? I mean as a TH-camr he clearly doesn't only give facts about phones, he gives his opinion and his experiences, so what if he has such a bad experience with this phone, should he lie and tell us all the good things, while this phone sucks in his opinion?
I'm not sure if I'm correct, but it's a possibility, so keep it in mind...

Marques, I hope you read my comment. This is one of if not THE WORST video I've ever seen on your channel. If you are not interested, or 'NOT PAID' (no offense) to review it, then don't! But making a lousy video in comparison to many others where you take time, effort, explain in details with demonstrations..... that raise a lot of question marks about your credibility as a tech reviewer.... and here are my reasons:
1- Review of Performance - "killing it, super smooth BUT..... I am not sure if it last"....I am not sure why you had to take a dig... Don't get me wrong, that comment is very true and phones (especially android) get slower with time.... but I didn't hear you adding that "i'm not sure if it will last" comment to the S8 review ... or the LG G6 (and we all know how horrible samsung and LG skins are)... or one plus.... you took a dig on the HTC that makes one of the best skins on android PERIOD (its actually the best in my opinion) with no duplicate apps, super smooth and light with many cool useful features.....
2- your camera review - 20 seconds 2:30 - 2:50 "super good, snappy" really marques?? that's it?? that's an MKBHD camera review??? no video samples, low light shots, selfies, nothing?? some quick pictures and thats it??
3- YOU...Marques....MKBHD the huge fan of music and audio... not talking about sound quality?? For real?? nothing? no praise for HTC who continues to make some of the best audio experience on any smartphone with awesome speakers AND an amazing audio DAC with awesome headphones.....
4- You were able to make a 6 minutes 50 seconds video demonstrating the flaws of the U Ultra (fully deserved by the way) in full details, but on the other hand, was only capable of making a shorter video, 6 minutes, 48 seconds on an amazing phone and skipping through its amazing features super quick....amazing performance, camera, audio quality speakers, DAC and headphones, decent battery life.... skip skip quick quick quick!!
One more thing, I won't take "i was just talking about the squeeze feature" as an excuse... This video is your worst, most biased and massively hits your credibility in my opinion (subscribed to you almost 5 years ago).

I don't think HTC has that much money to invest on new technology like samsung , apple or even one plus (oppo) . However still they are still trying to introduce new technologies with every new flagship. That's what makes HTC great.

This review is so late and quick, you spend one or two hours for this.
I bought this phone a week ago, and i love this phone. For me has no issues(battery is good, camera and sound is awersome and a verry customisable), this is a very compact phone.

It depends on what model you get.
i ride a bike and a quick or long squeeze setting to skip or activate apps would be safer on the road. it needs some work but they should really focus on this feature going forward

You forgot to review the new unique feature of this phone which is the dual pixel.
What I admire about the htc is that they are pioneers in the new trend-changing features.
htc was the first to use dual cameras and bothy imaging.
htc is also the best one to concern about the quality of the mic and voice recording.
Unfortunately reviews usually overlook the mic quality.

GTA Films At lot of people think that the review isn't as good as other reviews, as he focused on the bad sections of the phone where as most of his other reviews have been mostly positive. also the review missed out on key aspects such as sound quality which is usually talks about. And people also are unhappy as unhappy comments are being removed

The squeeze feature is on I think is on the gimmick side but it does have its benefits and i think this is something that will be incorporated in devices going forward. We have all seen this charging ports changing, form factors, headphone jacks, sd cards etc

AL1V3 but a heavily modified one, not to mention it's heavy and sluggish. Htc on the other hand was always known for great optimisation of the system.

sherlockjura it's just not sluggish anymore. Hasn't been slow since the S6 or S7. The recurring joke that "Samsung Grace UX is slow" just isn't true anymore.
A lemon phone, it just needs to be yellow! The squeezing is pretty much taken care of. Make sure the phone has juice before you squeeze.
