  • The RV Renovation is done! But now we've got a big problem. We’ve been trying for weeks to get our RV into a shop to get a few mechanical issues sorted and keep hitting dead ends. And just when our tow vehicle gets done with its engine upgrade, disaster strikes! So we’re completely changing our plans and desperately trying to get everything sorted so we can finally hit the road for good.

It will be neat to follow how your tiny house style unfolds...enjoyed Route 66 trip, old diner (barbecue sauce ecstasy). Suzuki did work for fuel efficiency, so maybe get anointing of "business decision" corporate model... flexible to future proof that works.

I can't tell you why they blocked you, but from watching many, many car channels on TH-cam I can tell you that it would seem that car transporters are almost universally considered to be the worst by people who ship cars a lot.

    • @susie2251
      @susie2251 2 ปีที่แล้ว

And unfortunately it’s standard procedure for it to take two weeks or so and for them to have no idea what exact date it will arrive. Essentially, they are just real time booking transport on whatever rig is going through your desired route and they don’t know when the next truck will be coming that can do it.
Now, promising a pick up day and then canceling is unprofessional, nevermind the blocking and ghosting.

You guys have such a sweet positive outlook and easy manner way of sharing and presenting. Glad you guys and Ruby safely completed your first adventure together. Little story about driving a stick... When I was fresh out of service as an Army officer and about to enter law school in the metro NY area, I needed to get a "new" car to replace a big gas-guzzler I had in the service. With my dad encouraging me, I ended up buying a cute used Datsun 510 hatchback with manual transmission. One problem: I didn't know how to drive a stick shift. My dad said, "By the end of today, you will." He took me out to an abandoned Air Force airfield and, yep, by the end of the day, I could drive that thing, even up and down hills. A year later, I even taught my new boyfriend how to do it. Fast forward 42 years later, and that Datsun remains as the only manual transmission car that "boyfriend" and I have ever owned, but I know I could still drive one if I had to. He's not sure he could...

Hi guys. Fabulous road trip. I'm a single (widowed) woman in my early 60's. Six years ago I made my second cross country trip by myself, well my sweet dog, Bear..my poodle was with me at that time.... he's resting now. I have begun my new journey with my little rescued Shih Tzu. She's about to turn 12 in a few months...Guess I figured us two ole girls can have just as amazing road, travel experience as we want. Not cross country again by myself, but oh how I love seeing as many beautiful State Parks, the amazing scenery. My last trip was from Arkansas back to home in Seattle. Cross country was from Seattle to a friend's house in North Carolina. I was driving a 1988 Jeep Cherokee...she never gave me a minutes trouble...until the trip home..some valve got stuck and my engine was roaring sitting still. Oh funny, but a quick fix, and I was back on the road. I have one quick question...I'm new to your site, and at the end here you told us some creative ways to pay for the traveling. Perhaps it's too personal to ask, I respect that...but I've always wondered how young, obviously retired?, how do you have the funds to pay for all of it? I sincerely think it's wonderful you can pay for everything you need to keep the adventures going...and you see others doing all this traveling...but they never say how are they paying for everything. At $100 at a time to fill your RV tank...I can't imagine at $4 + a gallon of gas now...ouch. Anyway, me and my little dog with be going camping soon. In the great Pacific Northwest we haven't really warmed up yet... Be safe, and may the road go on forever 🐦🌷

So you’re going to tow, and you have options on how to do it, but a good trailer may be your best option. You can’t back a vehicle being towed with a tow bar, and while that may not sound like a big deal, it sure could be when it’s the least opportune moment to unhook. And if you choose a trailer you could have storage compartments on it that increase what you can bring with you.
I love camping and the adventures from it, but you all are doing more than that, you’ll be living in it, so more space may be a great thing. Just something to consider. Love your videos! And love that you all are from the Bluff!

It was hilarious that for such a terrible reason for a road trip (can't believe the shipping company ghosted you!), you flew into Tampa Airport...during the summer (yes, the beginning of May is summer here, it's been summer since April lol). Thank goodness you managed to get out of the state. Leave and never come back 😂

I was having deja vu watching your trip back to TX! In March, I flew to Tampa to pick up a 1993 Geo Tracker (same car as you-really) to drive back to Iowa! I had no A/C either…and no fan/vent/defrost! I had to make 2 trips to O’Reilly’s and a trip to Jiffy Lube before I could even leave Tampa! I ended up buying a 12V fan and clipped it to the passenger overhead handle to blow at the window. Then my “soft” top started to blow off on the interstate, so I had to find a clamp to keep it down for the 20 hour drive! I was by myself…aside from my Bluetooth speaker! Oh, and manual transmission and NO CRUISE CONTROL!! My right calf started cramping on the first day! I feel you! I made it home with no mechanical issues, and I’m working on “Sunny” bit by bit! Will be a great TOAD! Keep up the great videos!

The twisted T upgrade will also allow you to shift into 2WD Low. So as you know you have to engage the manual locks on the front wheels to be able to use 4WD, but if you don't feel like doing that, you can keep the locks in 2wd and shift into 2wd low and you'll be surprised what you can go through, especially with that motor. There's a ton of forums online that cater to these trucks. Zuks off road is a good one.

And I thought I was having a bad week, with me dropping almost $500 just to get an oxygen sensor and in-engine battery replaced on my hybrid (the car was at the dealer for almost three days).
But if you kids have taught me anything, it is this: Murphy's Law is alive and well - and thriving vigorously. Murphy took one look at you kids, rubbed his hands with glee, and just went to town! Lol!!
You have also confirmed one of my basic personal philosophies: sometimes it is a LOT better to know your limitations and pay for convenience. Buy vehicles new, hold onto them until they "can't drive no more" and use the pros to fix more often than not. But hey, that's why you're called "The Endless Adventure!" It is a lot better than being "The Endless Boredom." Lol! I will be much interested in how you fare in your search for air conditioning for your Suzuki.
By the way, if you are going to give "Ruby" a last name (my hybrid is a ruby red color, too), I suggest "Begonia," in honor of both a Flip Wilson comedy routine and a line from the old Amos and Andy days. It's also a line dropped in some of the old Laugh-In TV shows of the late 60s - early 70s. But it's just a suggestion, nothing more.

"Vintage Air" makes self contained A/C systems that mount in cab under the dash so you don't have all the underhood components to deal with. They come in a variety of sizes and BTU's for different vehicles and vintage smaller cab cars/trucks/Hot Rods so you can get one that works for Ruby.

With the experience of a LOT of night driving in the Australian Outback (with stonking great big driving lights on my large 4wd wagon) the BEST thing for bugs on windscreen we've found is antiseptic/antibacterial wipes. Firstly, it takes them off well (some will need more scrubbing than others) and gives the screen a little coating that seems to help them not stick and use as much washer fluid to wipe them off. Then, then extract time you stop, just wipe over with the wipes again and go for it.

When I had my samurai a few years ago, about once a year or more the cable would break. The first time that happened I went to the dealer and they ordered me one. It was way expensive for a 2 ft piece of cable. The next time I went to the hardware store and bought a 10-foot piece of cable the same size and everytime it broke I could fix it within a couple minutes. I always kept the cable and a couple tools in the glove box. Love your videos!

In the 1990s we bought a Subaru Justy for my wife as a run-around. She called it Ruby Sue - Subaru/Ruby Sue. She shortened it to Ruby. The name doesn't fit with a Suzuki SJ. As an aside, I worked in Nigeria in the late '90s and a friend got his Range Rover stuck in the sand at the beach. We pulled it out with A Suzuki SJ410. In England we test drove a Suzuki SJ and hated the ride and handling. After learning that the were prone to falling over in tight turns (evidenced in Press reports) we opted for the Suzuki Vitara (Sidekick in the US) to replace the Justy.

wow, no ac. Deal breaker for me. I owned a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl and 5 speed. No AC but added factory ac for $1000 after I bought it. It was almost new and I bought a hardtop with targa and added the AC and only had $13,000 into it back in 1999. I will never own a car without AC ever again. It really sucks to drive in the rain with no AC defogger setting. Also, was hoping for Suzy only because Ruby is already the name of a very fast corvette on the Cleetus McFarland channel I also watch. I hope your driving goes well and look forward to your next adventures.

If the company was using a big 18-wheeler hauler, they are picking up and dropping off cars all the time. If you are long distance away, they will avoid that trip if they can get shorter hauls along the way (especially east coast driving west). You may be better off they didn't pick up your vehicle!

Manual transmissions are normal in Europe. It’s so funny seeing Americans having trouble with it!

I find your view on driving a manual slightly amusing. In the UK manual transmission is the norm, in 47 years of driving I've never driven an auto. When it comes to the A bar for towing, I'd be inclined to look into a braked one, given the weight of the Suzuki.

Transport companies are horrible to deal with. They are notorious for having the worst drivers, being late, and damaging goods. You guys maybe better off it worked out this way. They could have taken your Suzuki and totaled it on the way to Texas.

I was hoping for the name Darlin' like in My darlin' clementine . OH how cute would that be going down the road and see Darlin' Clementine remind me of that M.A.S.H. episode

I'm a professional auto technician/mechanic for the past 28 years. Maybe you have already done this? But one of you hold the throttle pedal to the floor(engine off of course) the other one make sure the throttle is opening up all the way(I'm sure it must at least be close) but don't adjust it too tight because that puts a strain on the cable. But if it's only opening 90% there is some free horsepower to be had by throttle opening all the way. You can adjust while a helper is holding throttle pedal.

I’ve been enjoying watching you guys for a while now and while I’ve noticed several adventurous TH-camrs try to get by being very frugal reality is that you get what you pay for. Not trying to be negative because I get it but sometimes it’s ‘interesting’ watching people whose primary responsibility is TH-cam run into issues that are a direct result from being cheap. I can be cheap at times as well but go ahead and splurge for a better hotel or vehicle or mod to the RV - you’ll likely be glad you did.

Don't tell me you got a modified ice chest, with a fan that uses ice... In theory that will work and it's cool because it's portable. But you have to maintain it possibly up to twice a day. I recommend looking at the modular under-the-dash units like the ones found in cars from the mid-'60s +. They still make them. I have seen them from 100 dollars on up and I think Jegs and Summit have the most expensive units at roughly $450.

You guys are such a cute couple! I just love watching your content. Also I just love ruby and clementine! Once you get all the bugs out and install the new ls motor it’s much nicer than a new rig.
It makes me want to restore and old Chevy class c but I don’t envy all the troubles you’ve had.

I just returned from a two week road trip in Albania with a manual transmission rental car. It was so much fun to drive a stick after 30 years. When I got back to St Louis it took me a couple days unlearn the muscle memory of driving a manual.

Have you figured your fuel economy with the car behind you? Gas prices are nonsense right now! As for the AC I would buy one of those harbor freight predator generators. The inverter ones are quiet and cheap to run.
