Great video Jamie. I agree with everything you have said. A nice update that was only meant to be bug fiixes but became more. A step in the right direction.
We just need a few more of those steps :) I think actually, people would welcome more frequent but smaller updates that the usual big updates we see with Cubasis and Logic. It’s good for advertising and keeps the app in the conversation.
Tempo track, take lanes, and at least more groups (if not subgrouping too). With that said, Cubasis 3 is still my all around go to DAW now that I’m an iOS only DAW user.
Not having subgroups is annoying at this point…logic and fl studio mobile you can group instruments to one bus then drums to another then send both those to another bus..why can’t they hurry up already
Agreed! Extra routing options would be a fantastic addition but, it’s one I can survive without if I have to. I do love the way you can fold groups in Cubase or LP4iP.
I agree, this is a good and valuable update, more than just a few fixes. The search bar alone will make it worthy for many but I really like the glue and copy/paste additions. The main reason I don't use Cubasis more is that lack of a tempo track. I use midi files a lot, which can have mixed tempos and it's far easier to go to another DAW first that has that tempo track. With Logic around now, if they don't add it in their next big update I can see them losing even more fans.
Agreed, and as well as for my own benefit, that’s the reason I want to see more updates. I just want to see the app do well. They’ve got so much of it right.
@@JamieMallender I wish that when Cubasis 3 includes the tempo track, the aux, and the markers, it does not charge us the annual rental, as Logic does.
@@johnlennin1484 I hope for that too. I can’t see how it could be changed to subscription. I worry that Steinberg might be tempted to make that change if or when they bring out Cubasis 4.
This is true, it’s quite a popular request. Maybe not top 5 but definitely gets asked for a lot. If you haven’t done already, definitely request it at Steinbergs forum in the Cubasis area. Thank you for leaving such a nice comment my friend. ✌️✌️
Nice one Jamie Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. The tempo track or lack thereof is crucial. I couldn’t care less about the lack of sampling as I just bought an Akai S2000 but tempo track is a must. Anyway great video, have a chillled day
@@JamieMallender one of several they made. Not the best but certainly good enough for my needs. I’m going to get Dave swap out the disk drive for a Gotek floppy simulator later in the year, they are a lot more reliable and can store far more on a udb stick. Only paid 75 including shipping on eBay.
@@JamieMallender so far this year I’m keeping my gas down. Only bought 2 triple keyboard stands 2 synths and 1 sampler. Off to see Nick Masons saucer full of secrets in Cardiff next month so any new purchases will have to wait until July.
Thanks Jamie, these are welcome features, but as you say, Steinberg is losing grip of the faithful, and which the recent update to Logic, they need to get their skates on. I know that you love Cubasis 3, as you are also a Cubase user. I am a Logic Pro user, so I naturally gravitate to the same on iPad. There is never a perfect system, I think there is good and bad in both, but we work around them and have moulded our workflow to suit. It can be hard to switch, as it just takes too long. Have a good one dude.😊
That’s right Mick! There’s never just 1 perfect DAW but we do gravitate to certain ones because they suit us and what we’re used to and the way we work. But I would use anything that I have to in order to ultimately get the job done. It’s frustrating though, having to use something that isn’t your favourite because it has an essential feature your preferred DAW is missing ✌️
Hi Jamie I’m a beginner and struggling on the simplest step…when ever I record vocals in playback it’s so low checked my input gain doesn’t seem to help. I’m running on iPad. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? Thank you
Hello David. If I could see your setup I’m sure I could help you in no time at all. What device are you using? What recording interface and what microphone?
Thank you! Yes, me too. Curiously, the whole thing seems much more logically set out. I much prefer it. I just wish it had some of those features that I really like in Logic. I’m hopeful that they are on the way. ✌️✌️
@@JamieMallender i agree. Definitely some must have features from Logic I’d like to see. A tempo track especially. But the UI and user experience of Cubasis is much better imo. I’m not leaving any time soon :) hope all is well with you Jamie! 🤘
@HotStrange yes mate, all is good thanks, hope you’re well too. I totally agree. I feel strongly that Cubasis 3 needs a good tempo track, a dedicated drum interface, better sampler and more routing options. Then, as it’s not a sub it would definitely be the stronger option. ✌️
With the new M4 ipad pro out, I wonder if they aren't planning to just release Cubase Pro on iPadOS and not another "light" version of it in the form of Cubasis. Don't get me wrong, I like Cubasis but the iPad can handle so much more at this point.
The new iPads are way more powerful than desktops a lot of producers are using. But, how many people have them and is it worth Steinbergs investment developing Cubase for iPad for that number of people? I think that’s the issue. ✌️
I suppose the worst thing for each person may be different depending on what you like to record. For me the lack of tempo track is the worst thing because I’m not much of a sample guy and if I do need samples I can load up an AUV3 to take care of that. Definitely needs an upgrade though, it would be nice to just have a good native one
I am sorry my friend, but the Android operating system is not capable of supporting plugins of any kind. Apps cannot host other apps or even communicate with each other. I have some Android phones here and they are excellent phones, great consumer devices but for anything creative they are not great. Android don’t seem interested in improving this.
@@JamieMallenderthis is why I stopped using android from the iPhone 6s, kinda hard to implement auv when there are hundreds of android devices where as apple just has one ecosystem
Maybe I get piss on my pants here but.. A person buys Cubasis and demands free updates forever on it, how can a company survive economically on that? Me personally I could take a subscription on Cubasis if that leads to more and better updates 👍
There’s a lot of sense in what you’re saying but how would Steinberg apply a subscription model to an app people have already paid for? I think the IAP route for things like a great drum bolt on like Groove Agent, a proper sampler, a tempo track etc.. and more sounds of course would be the way. ✌️✌️
Not sure how popular a subscription model would be. Logic Pro does that. I don’t usually sign up to subscription models but would be interested to know how Logic Pro think that it is going. To clarify and add to what Cubasis does. I had bought Cubasis 2 and got free updates after that. When Cubasis 3 came out I had to pay full price for this even though I had bought Cubasis 2. What will happen is that Cubasis version 3 will continue to be updated until Cubasis feels they can market it as a brand new version 4 and then you will end up paying full price for that. Hope that makes some sense
@garypmcgovern2321 what happened was that Steinberg realised that the coding for Cubasis 2 was not future proof and that they could only take it so far. So it was recoded from the ground up and extra features added and sold as Cubasis 3. We don’t really know but my personal feeling is that Cubasis 3 will remain Steinbergs cheap and cheerful cross mobile platform DAW and when there is enough call for it - it’ll be Cubase for mobile next rather than Cubasis 4. But I’m only guessing.
Thanks Jamie...just as I was at a loss with C3 they creep out a carrot of possibility. Totally agree with the Tempo & Time Signature track. Bring that basic facility it in, and the subscription bloatware that is LP4iP will be dust. (unless of course Steinberg start to go down that path). Having seen smaller DAWs (no disrespect to NanoStudio 2) do timesigs and tempo tracks for years its an infuriating ommision - however as NS2 can't do Audio tracks without a lot of p1ssyp@ntsing about just adds to the frustration. Here's hoping for C4 soon with all the bells and whistles.
I keep wondering what they’ll do about the next incarnation. There are of course iPads available now that are immensely powerful. But do enough music makers have them for it to be worth Steinberg investing the time into coding a bigger and better version? I suspect that for now the more realistic market is right where Cubasis 3 is at. It works on almost everything. At some point though - Cubase for iPad - that would be a dream come true!
@@JamieMallender I have a 3rd Gen IPad Pro and tons of space, but after creating just 6x tracks on LP4iP (admittedly 2x were session tracks) it now continually crashes - 6 tracks !!.. this is nuts. Maybe its time to return to C3 after all... Love your work btw..
