I really appreciate your honesty from 10:35 onwards Jamie. Honestly thought I was losing my mind at the huge amount of hype surrounding this update, only for Steinberg to add 1 free instrument and 3 instruments you need to pay for. Yes, there are other bug fixes in this update, but I imagine users were hoping for a more substantial response to the release of LP for iPad. I didn’t consider how big a win this is for Android users though, great point!
Yeah for the Android guys I mean, this is huge! In fact it has made me think about revisiting Android and doing a couple of videos because even though the couple of livestreams I did with Android were disastrous because of the latency issue, they get quite a few views. There’s a market there for sure. But for iOS users with our 20 billion AUV3’s…. It’s a bit pants. The sounds though dude - the DX7 sounds in particular are so good - and I’ve got a TX7 here. Takes me back - I feel 15 again!!!! 😂
Another feature that Steinberg has ignored for a long time is an improvement to the way that multiple takes are handled. If you loop a section and record multiple takes on a track, it plays all of the takes rather than just the most recent one. People have complained about this for years, and it's one of the main reasons I don't use Cubasis more often.
I’ve never liked the multiple take approach so it’s not something that has ever really bothered me be but I’m very aware of peoples complaints about this and I do agree that it’s something they ought to develop. For me though, I find I get a far better end result doing a take at a time - it’s just how I work - I’m always pushing myself to be able to execute the performance without comping, timing, tuning. It’s important to me. ✌️
Cubasis will always have a spot in my heart for its being around before Logic Pro. For what its worth, I wont be going back unless revisiting my old projects.
I totally get that dude. I’ve found recently I’ve been revisiting a lot of old projects. Things keep coming to mind that were promising but didn’t get finished. Maybe something I did to demo an app that could’ve become a track.
With most iPads getting M1, M2, M3 processors, Cubase for iPad is now very possible. Just imagine the future workflow between the Mac/PC and iPadOS. It would be seamless.
This is something I wonder about often. I use Cubase 13 Pro on the desktop but do a lot more production on the iPad. I would love to see full Cubase on the iPad. My M1 beats the crap out of my desktop - and my desktop is better than machines a lot of people use for music production. But I think there are 2 concerns. The first is purely about real estate. How would Cubase be redesigned to fit all of that information and all those deep dive menus on an iPad sized screen? And, the price. In my opinion, iOS music is held back because the big names don’t port the well known big production apps over from desktop because they don’t think it is worth it financially. This is because on iOS there is a culture of cheap and cheerful apps and when something amazing comes along that costs a little more there is outrage. iOS musicians would expect it to be cheaper than on desktop and then freak out every time a new version comes out and you have to pay to upgrade. In time of course, this will all change but it will take time and this is why I don’t think we’ll see Cubase just yet. I don’t have any insider knowledge about that though - it’s just my thoughts - and I have been known to be wrong.
@@JamieMallender Steinberg always seems to find an innovative way to do things and when I look at what Apple did with Logic Pro on iPad my ideas just flow. Like I know Steinberg’s version of a professional mobile DAW would be insane. I also compare what Blackmagic Design did with Divinci Resolve OMG !! Never thought possible with such a large interface from desktop to iPad would this even work. They’ve even just released dedicated controller for color grading on your iPad. I feel like this is a huge miss for Steinberg if they don’t get pass the Cubasis years. I love Cubasis personally use it all the time but it just leaves so much more to be desired.
Thanks for this, Jamie. Especially for your comments about the long term missing features. I used Cubasis from the start of my iPad music journey and I much prefer Cubasis over Logic Pro for iPad in terms of user experience and ease of use on iPad but, yes, the lack of a tempo/time signature track in Cubasis 3 is one reason I now do most of my recording in Logic Pro on my Mac.
I’m seeing a lot of comments like this today Colin. It’s a shame. Cubasis 3, once Steinberg got it stable, was such a great step forward for mobile music making. But it hasn’t moved forward for too long. I’m sure Steinberg have heard us on this now so it will be interesting to see what happens. ✌️
For Android users, it is big. That being said, I use to start songs while traveling for work. I send the MIDI out, reassign instruments, and finish it on a computer and/or MPC. Working on any tablet is too restrictive for me. Not enough power and too small of a screen size.
I used to think that, but I have an M1 Pro now and the device has way more power than any software can actually make use of. I used to find the small screen size an issue but I don’t even notice it now because I’ve used it so much. I was thinking of doing a video with one of the Android devices I have lying around doing nothing here, just to show how good a production you can do with these new sounds.
@@JamieMallender I still think that way with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ *and* an iPad Pro M4. Too limiting, non-tactile, and claustrophobic. It's like painting the walls through a mail slot after using 43 in monitors. Even the smaller screens on the MPC doesn't give that feeling. Great for when you don't have anything other than a controller. We're not all the same.
Thanks Jamie. The new sounds are amazing. I just bought the HALion IAP., but I am a bit pissed off. I am now on my 5th attempt at trying to download it. The furthest it got so far is halfway, then I get a pop-up saying download failed! My internet is superfast and reliable, and I have 90 GB space on my iPad Pro M2. It wouldn't be so bad if it restarted from the point where it failed, but it goes back to the beginning. Anyway, have a good day.
I’m also having trouble installing it, it keeps popping up with the same message as yours. Hopefully it’s just because everyone is trying to download it at the moment.
Glad you finally got it sorted Mick. A few people have posted about this problem. Not sure what’s going on but they all seem to be getting there eventually. I really don’t know what it could be.
Thank you much for this Jamie. We started our iOS DAW journey on Cubasis 3, then jumped on Logic as soon as it became available because it had features Cubasis was sorely lacking - probably the case for a lot of people jumping ship as you said... BUT - we got an iPhone 13 added to the studio recently and am finding that it operates much better as a "tiny DAW" than GarageBand does. And no Logic on iPhone, so it's a great solution. For that reason, we're excited about any new updates for Cubasis 3 and am interested in re-integrating it into the studio. It's all very individual how people prefer their setups, and we hope others out there are re-evaluating it too!
Cubasis 3 is great on a phone! You know, back when I was on an iPhone 8 it handled Cubasis 3 better than my iPad did at the time. Sadly it only had a small memory but it was super useful for starting projects. I keep meaning to use the phone more ins my demos because I think people like to see it and Cubasis 3 runs amazingly well on this iPhone 14 Plus. Mental when you think about it.
@@3rdPersonProductions amazing isn’t it! I bought a 2TB external drive recently for less than the price of a tank of petrol and it’s so small I’m scared of losing it. 😂
14:30 that summarises the iPad experience for me. Some products have some features that other lacks and vice versa. Although Logic Pro on iPad is the most complete. But not free from bugs. So for now after 2 years of reporting bugs and hoping for new features, I gave up and ordered a laptop instead... (I also don't like the subscription model unless it's something I'm sure I'm gonna use at least several times a week)
@@VirtualDarKness I think that would be the kiss of death to be honest. Subs are about as popular as crabs in iOS. I totally get your frustration. It’s hard to understand why Steinberg would make these choices, given the fact that they do welcome feedback
@@JamieMallender tiny follow up: the other reason is that I have a good amount of VST on PC already and just wanted something portable to use from the sofa. But with the laptop (windows) I'm also getting a WIDI bud pro, so I should be able to use iPhone / iPad as a touch MPE controller and sequencer and sounds and DAW features from laptop. Less portable for sure though
Oofff! The first thing I do when I get my hands on an old piece of kit is turn the reverbs OFF. That said...THANK YOU! Cubasis needs everything you mentioned.
Thank you for watching my friend! Yeah that makes sense actually - I thought it was brave of Steinberg to go for authenticity over the show me the money approach. ✌️✌️
Thanks Jamie, personally I don't feel the need of new sounds thanks to some brilliant auv3s I have, so this surely won't make me consider stopping my logic subscription. Although these helion samples seemed massive! Great demo, I loved the little melody you looped in this video, beautiful, hope youll use it somewhere!
I’m glad you mentioned that - it was just a little improvisation. I had to make this video in no time at all so really relied heavily on jamming things out quickly. But that little melody is stuck in my head. That’ll have to become something.
@@JamieMallender I'll give you 6 months - if it's not released, I'm stealing it! So I'm changing my opinion on the update, thank you so much Steinberg for releasing the update, it was worth it to force Jamie create this melody!!!!
Thank you. That’s a massive compliment coming from you. Hope you’re super well and smashing. I haven’t seen your Cubasis 3 video yet, I’m going to watch it later while I’m doing my chores. 💜💜💜💜
Great video Jamie! I'm contemplating getting the Halion Sonic Selection add-on. Do you know how large the full library is? Also, if you transfer a Cubais project to Cubase do you know if these Halion Sonic sounds would tranfer as well, rather than as bounced audio files? Thanks!
Hi James. Steinberg have an updated version of the importer available. I haven’t used it yet but it is meant to map the new Cubasis instruments to appropriate things in Cubase. Can’t wait to try it. The Halion download is 1.8 GB. Let me know if you have any probs. ✌️✌️
@@JamieMallender 1.8gb is pretty reasonable for the amount of presets I think! Great, will try that soon. Think I'll pick this up on Android shortly for the reason you mentioned in the video!
Great demo and analysis Jamie. I totally agree with your criticisms; I asked them about the tempo track about 4 years ago and they implied it was coming soon...... Very disappointing. I'm stoked that Halion has come across in some form, the DX7 stuff whilst nice is covered by KQDixie & King of FM (which is free), similarly I'm good for pianos 😂. To me the update feels like a kneejerk reaction to Logic coming to iPad and what they've done is to try to level up to Logic rather than leading the way on mobile DAWs, something they used to be able to boast, but now no longer. FWIW I'll stick with CB3 on the iPad and use Logic on the desktop where I need to get the orchestral VSTs. But it's very much "nice sounds, but meh" I'm afraid.
Absolutely 100% agreed young man. I do love Cubasis 3 though. The interface really works for me. I do hope they’ve heard us now at Steinberg. But more importantly dude, I hope you’re well and groovy and have a wonderful Christmas x
Thanks for the video, Jamie. I also want to add another feature missing forever in Cubasis which is seeing the waveform while recording (not just seeing it after you finish recording). It matters for many reasons, one of which is seeing you're not too loud or too quiet. So for now, unless I'm missing something - If I'm recording something longer than a short loop - I need to do a test recording first just to see the levels.
It’s a good point. I kind of work around it but it’s particularly frustrating when you’re recording slap bass. The input level has to be just right. It can mean a lot of test takes and deleting. ✌️✌️
Do I already have FM Classics with a different UI when I purchased Audiokit’s King of FM? I think I do, only with Audiokit’s user interface, not the interface Cubasis 3.6 has on their FM Classics.
Kind of yes, and with a lot more presets covering very similar sounds. The difference with FM classics is that the presets are the original sounds from the DX7 and rom cards sounding the way they would have at the time if unaltered. That’s awesome to me but wouldn’t fascinate everyone. ✌️✌️
Hello! I’m having trouble recording. I armed the tracks, press record but it doesn’t record. It shows as if it’s recording with the spinning wheels on the tracks. Any idea? Thanks
@@dereksoto5390 if the midi appears to be recording but then disappears after you hit stop then strictly this means that no midi is being received. Are you trying to record an app that you are playing with a controller? If not, what are you trying to record?
Often at higher tempos, looping the midi tracks it will not sound the first note and sometimes notes get stuck on or randomly a note gets dropped but that could be my BS16i plugin playing up! Also there seems to be some kind of limiter on the output that can’t be turned off, did I get a setting wrong or do I just need a proper audio interface? A setting for staggering the notes and random velocity to make piano roll midi sound more natural would be great 👍
The missed note is something that happens with certain AUV3’s but not others so is not a Cubasis problem, it’s about that particular Audio Unit. The limiting kind of sound you are experiencing is purely because you’re not using an interface - it’s an iOS thing, not a Cubasis thing. I used to spend a lot of time trying to tweak my midi to make it sound more human - I’ve done this in many DAWs over the years. Humanisation isn’t a feature DAWs tend to have strangely. It can be done in Cubase but it isn’t obvious. But I found ultimately that the quickest way is just to play it in - capture the human performance and then if it isn’t accurate enough, drag it into time but not perfectly :) ✌️
Great sound demo and overview Jamie of these new IAPs. But yes, I agree with you on the lack of a Tempo track, search function… and other popular requests. Been waiting too long for it and it is still not there. I like Cubasis 3 a lot, but yes Logic Pro for iPad does have these things. And really makes me wonder if Steinberg really doesn’t pay attention to what their users actually need. It irks me beyond words that there is no tempo track nor search function and is really making me consider to make the move to Logic Pro eventually if Steinberg refuses to add these things.
Well, they’ve definitely heard ups now so I feel that the next update will make or break the future of the app and will certainly be a deciding factor for me about the future 🙂
@@JamieMallender Yes we will have to see. I did buy these cool new synths though, because they sound phenomenal and for now I am still mostly a Cubasis boy hahah 👍👍 It has treated me well with most of my productions. But there already have been songs that i produced for which i was forced to record it in Garageband for Mac, simply for the fact that it supports tempo changes. And there are more tracks that i need to record with tempo tracks, so again i won’t produce those in Cubasis and will have to most likely do them in Logic Pro. Steinberg is really starting to push users away to other DAWs by not implementing basic features that people really need.
@@EdBMetal this is definitely the case and at the risk of upsetting them, which I really did not want to do as I am a huge fan and do have a bit of a relationship with them - I decided the correct thing for me to do was to make that clear to them in this video. I may not be particularly well embraced by the iOS community nor a big TH-camr but if I can use my platform such as it is to achieve that - I’ve at least done something good for the community, and for Steinberg.
@@JamieMallender i completely understand what you mean Jamie. And i also hope we don’t upset them or thst it affects your relationship with them. It is only meant as constructive criticism and practical feedback. People have been requesring rgis for so long, even MobileMusicPro which is a big supported of Cubasis. But our requests seem to have been not heard, or maybe even ignored. But I really hope they do something with this input because i would hate being pushed away since i love using Cubasis. But i keep running constantly into the same frustrations as my fast collection of AUv3’s keeps growing. It become such a pain to scroll through this crazy long list just to find a plugin. It really ruins a smooth workflow and the user experience.
Amp rack in Cubase is still one of my favorite amp simulators. It’s been out for so long now, I wish they would import it into Cubasis. Having those tools in a portable, mobile device would be amazing.
Although it would be really nice to have those amp sims from Cubase in Cubasis 3, I totally agree, there are many 3rd party plugins available that are as good or superior. Do you use any of those? Like ToneX, Rhino, Tonestack Pro, Nembrini etc..
As you know, Jamie. I'm also a Steinberg fan boy since Atari and Steinberg Pro 24. I will not jump ship. However, you are making good points. Mono export, tempo track would make huge difference and keep Cubasis in the professional zone.
I really wish I had an Atari ST with the original Cubase on sometimes… it would make a great nostalgia video! Thank you for watching and taking time to comment young man. ✌️
I assume you mean 'beats' not 'bears', unless Yogi is in the house? 😁 I know you were asking Jamie but personally for me, CB3's user interface beats Logic by a long way. CB3 also has midi export and last I checcked Logic didn't. I ran out of memory easily with one midi import in Logic (with no real way to avoid it) while CB3 handled it fine. There were other factors but these came straight to mind and that's not allowing for the single price vs constant subscription aspect and subscription will always lose out for me.
Thanks for watching my friend! Here’s my list - Cubasis 3 Advantages Over Logic Pro For iPad. 1. Cubasis 3 works on older, less powerful devices, and iPhones and many Android devices and projects can be bounced around between all of those platforms with 100% compatibility - and of course, I can send a project from any of those devices to Cubase on desktop. 2. Cubasis 3, on a more powerful iPad with Multi Core processing engaged handles a large project containing a lot of AUV3’s far better than Logic Pro For iPad does. 3. I suffer random crashes fairly often in LP4iP which I almost never experience in Cubasis 3 now. 4. Cubasis also supports IAA which to a lot of users is a huge bonus. 5. Midi mapping is possible in Cubasis 3 and is nicely implemented. 6. Whilst multi output AUV3s can be mapped to separate busses in LP4iP, it is tedious to implement but in Cubasis 3 you press one button and it’s all done for you. 7. Audio editing I find very slow in LP4iP - like if you have a lot of audio to chop up and introduce micro fades etc, you constantly have to dive the menus - plus the gimmicky trim button slows things down further and having to menu dive for a delete button or mute function. In Cubasis you can do all of this in the normal screen and it’s much quicker. 8. I can record stems from AUM into Cubasis 3 on separate tracks which I can not do in LP4iP. 9. It’s so easy to export midi from Cubasis 3. 10. Cubasis 3 isn’t a subscription model. I own it. I’ve already spent more on my logic subscription than it cost me to buy Cubasis 3 and updates are slow. Disappointingly slow. All of this said, I think that LP4iP has many advantages over Cubasis 3 but I think in the excitement of the new DAW and its deeper menu diving features, many iOS users have cast Cubasis 3 aside, and it does do a number of things better than logic.
Hello, great video. I am a newbie (and likely as old as you, I used Musicalc on a C64…don’t worry, only we know….). Ok, 2 days left for the sale price on these. Honestly, I love the synth sound, ambience and that and want to use it. I can’t choose between the three (Neo, FM Classic, and Halion). For a first one, what would you recommend? I can buy them all easily, but that isn’t the point. I would appreciate your thoughts. Great ending on feature request btw. Cheers.
Hi Carl. If I had to choose….. FM Classics is my personal fave but the Halion Sonic Selection represents incredible value and to most people is possibly the most useful. If I can help you with your journey at any point just get in touch - I’ll do my best. ✌️✌️
I remember getting it for the C64 and being so excited - but it never played as nicely as the arcade version. And it was really hard. I seem to remember it played better on the spectrum although, it looked a bit pants. 😂
Hey Jamie - I am gong to forward this video to Greg Ondo - he is the Yamaha / Steinberg Rep who does cubase... Not sure of his affiliation with Cubasis, but I believe he would be able to get it to someone (hopefully) maybe get some feedback as to where Cubasis is going and when we can expect some of these changes. Honestly, now that the chips are identical (desktop to iPad) I am surprised to not see more fullfledged development getting ported over. Anyway, thanks for the video - as always great job man!
Thank you my friend! And thank you for watching. I am a big Cubase user and would love to be able to end my logic for iPad sub and just stick with Cubasis 3. We just need a few things. :)
Just an update Greg forwarded it to the mobile application development team at Steinberg… So your video is getting looked at by their team for actual changes. Fingers crossed. Talk to you later bud. Have a nice day.
@Cap10NRGMusic that’s utterly awesome buddy! Thank you for getting back to me and letting me know and thank you for doing this. Fingers crossed! ✌️🤞🤞✌️
Hey Jamie Duuudddeee. Great and honest video. For all it's plusses, Logic still fails at some very basic features that other iOS DAWs have, it isn't just Cubasis that is lacking. I get the appeal of Logic but it offers me nothing I need or don't already have. I'm also someone that doesn't like subscription software. I don't see me switching from Cubasis to Logic any time soon, if at all. Anywho, I picked up Halion this morning and for me it's worth it for the guitars and drums. The other sounds are a bonus but it's also greatly appreciated that they added a full set of general midi sounds. Far superior to the default sounds in Cubasis which are all a bit synthy IMO. I don't think I'll bother with the other two IAP's as I already have the DX7 patches in another synth and while nice, Neo FM doesn't seem to offer anything worth it to me. Maybe when it's on a good sale. Am I right that Steinberg do Cubasis feature updates in the spring and other updates in the winter? That would explain why no features were added this time and we can keep our fingers crossed for the next update. With Logic's release they don't really have an excuse to hold out on those long awaited features anymore. They need to match tempo (get it?) with other DAW's.
I get it 😂 Since launch, Steinberg have pretty much done a big update twice a year with the occasional supplemental one with fixes. I think they are usually summer and then December. Steinberg do big updates rather than lots of little ones and they Implement these things very well. But this time they left it 10 months which had people worried. ✌️
Again. I would like to see a comp editor, to easily manage multiple takes. I use this for recording vocals ( cheating I know) but it’s the industry standard way of getting a great vocal track. Strangely it’s usually the first take that produces the best result.
Well done, Jamie. Good points about what's still missing - esp. tempo track. I really want Cubasis to be the best IOS DAW. It's not too far away from that, but we're still waiting for some key improvements.
I still prefer Cubasis over Logic Pro on the iPad. I like toying around with virtual instruments such as the Micrologue, and Cubasis caters to that need. I wish Cubasis had better multi-touch gestures tho. I feel like the piano roll is really clunky as the "Select" mode seems to turn on by itself and I'm never sure whether I'm moving a note or adjusting its length.
I feel quite at home with the Cubasis piano roll now but I do still make slip ups. Occasionally shooting 3000 bars to the left 😂 I think you’re right - more gesture development would be nice. But yes, I love the interface. To me it’s just what a DAW should be. ✌️✌️
When you say scale lock, do you mean like different scale options so you can set up the keyboard so you can only play that key? I don’t use anything like that myself but I understand the need. I suppose as you can’t use external software on Android you really need that built in. Good point, I’ll put that forward. Totally with you on the Sampler/drum machine. It’s way past time that they ought to have implemented this.
@@JamieMallender yes exactly and a tuner for samples and sounds so I can match the key fl studio mobile not look so eye pleasing or sound as good as cubasis but it's packed with features that makes music making easier on Android devices and less expensive too even zenbeats mobile a little more sound design friendly I just don't like roland penny pitching pocket for sounds for zc1 player mabe next update they will focus on more sound design and editing and helper tools in app especially for Android users
@@perceptionzzz I think that’s fair. There’s no point Steinberg making a DAW and making it Available on Android if they don’t add things to it to compensate for Androids limitations. You can’t just buy plugins so whilst the app works just as well as the iOS version, you can’t do a lot with it. If they added a few things like that it would rule on Android.
I see a lot of complaining in the comment section. People kind of forget what is to record on tape recorder. Now, coming From FL Studio it feels kinda strange the way piano roll works. I am not saying it's worse or better but switching from one to the other is like learning a new language. I like the chord programing feature on Cubasis. It's brilliant. In a minute I had programed an unique chord progression and could play it with one finger. Forget about AI. This is better for me. I already know few tricks how to write unique chord progression. I just think it's brilliant I can use Cubasis to create the frame of a song in seconds. I don't know if people realize the potential there. Just this feature alone is worth for me getting the Cubasis. I can heve all the pads and chord stabs figured and recorded in no time. It would take me forever to set up something similar in another program it's just not even worth trying.
I guess some people never recorded in a proper studio or to actual tape. I think with piano rolls, you get used to one so a new one is a bit frustrating just because it is different. Yes, the chord pads are ace! ✌️✌️
@JamieMallender I didn't learn how to properly play drums or piano so everything that isn't guitar or singing is heavily edited in piano roll. But that's what it is. Either record just guitar or try to have full production with drums and everything. At least drums. I've been using FL Studio since it was barely more than drum machine. Now I am experimenting with Cubasis. It doesn't seem to record multiple tracks when on loop but that's not an issue to me. Also doesn't seem to be able to multiply midi by dragging. It kinda has vintage look and isn't very visual. I messed with it for two days. Hopefully something good come out of it. 🙂❤️🍀
@aspirativemusicproduction2135 Steinberg have always keep their software plain looking. They don’t provide those kind of tools that throw loops and samples and midi parts and ideas at you. They provide a blank page for you to paint on with your own creativity. I like that. Both midi and audio duplicate if you drag the handle on the right hand side of the part. Cubasis 3 isn’t designed to loop record. ✌️✌️
I will enjoy it for what it is. I am going to buy it and make me some dope backing tracks. And all the female dogs out there can complain how it doesn't have "enough" features. But you can make a track or two and take them to your computer, right?
@JamieMallender I am trying to figure out what work flow is best for Cubasis. Coming from FL Studio the piano roll and automation seem to be the main issues to adjust to. In FL seem to be easier. And on android it has limitations which people on Apple don't seem to have.
@@aspirativemusicproduction2135 yes it’s a shame that Android is so limited for music production. Great consumer devices, but not great for creative people.
@JamieMallender I used to do more on Windows with FL and Mixcraft. Sinse sitting became very painful and impossible for me making music in my bed on Samsung is making it possible. I have to go around the limitations of mobile apps for now but limitations make you think more strategically. I've recorded more stuff on my phone than I ever recorded on my computer. As long as I have one finger working I can do something 🙂🙂🙂
Quite a few people have said today, why not make these Cubasis IAPs standalone AUV3’s. It’s a good question. I love these new DX sounds - would love to use them in other DAWs
They should better fix bugs instead of releasing stuff nobody needs. Try to Record in loop (aka takes); there will always be a gap at the end. This bug has been reported for years.
I don’t think Steinberg really view that as a bug because it’s not really designed to do multi take feature as such. I know what you mean though. So many people have flagged that up they ought to fix it so you can use it properly ✌️
Reviewing one or two of these comments and on other fora, it’s almost as if Steinberg sat on their @rse until it looked as though people were turning away from their product, then suddenly produce a very polished Hal instruments bank etc. That’s a bit cruddy, if it is what’s happened. Also I might have preferred if these were Audio Units - am I right, these only work inside Cubasis, thus making them ‘proprietary’ instruments? I use GarageBand on my iPad Pro M1 an awful lot, and because I eschew over-technical stuff (like busses I mean!), GB suits me, and is why I flogged off my PC Cubase 9.5 some time ago. So I feel Cubasis is really pretty good, but do turn to others for an in-depth and fully-formed opinion on its technical capabilities, and comparisons with the likes of Logic Pro. I suppose then, this is the way to turn it into a competition, by making their instruments non-AU. Lastly, it maybe seems that Cubasis 3.6 despite having some issues as all DAWs do, is so capable, Steinberg may be pressing gently on the brake? Not wanting it to properly compete with Cubase on the more traditional laptop or computer platforms. That’d be a shame. Thanks for your view. Have a fantastic 2024 if you can everyone. Or, just start out by hating it already in the dying days of 2023. Works for me. !
I think what we always have to remember is that the iOS market is still very small and not particularly profitable. The staff at Steinberg work incredibly hard but they’re only going to pour a limited amount of resources into Cubasis 3 from time to time because of the aforementioned reasons. They may have felt that they were far enough ahead and that they could leave it for a while, but they’ve left it too long. I think they’ve got the message about that now so we’ll have to see where they go next with it. I think it would be awesome if the new instruments were AUV3 and could be used in other DAWs but that then means more apps to maintain when clearly they are having enough difficulty dedicating enough time to what they have. I don’t think they are afraid of it getting too good and too close to Cubase because it’s a very long way off and Steinberg are the originators of the DAW. I’m sure they want to have the best iOS DAW but right now on iOS the software isn’t moving anything like as fast as the technology because it’s a tiny market.
This is one of the big advantages with Cubasis 3 - it works on my ancient iPad, one that’s 6 years old, my old iPhones, my new one, the M1, the Android phones I keep for testing stuff on…. And yeah, no sub… ewwww… just did a small sick in my mouth 😂😂😂😂
It would be a bit of a monumental task though I would imagine, fitting all of that functionality on an iPad screen. I need 2 pc monitors for it as it is. Plus, the iOS community is not used to paying much for software. And it’s a fairly small user base and only the more powerful iPads would be able to take it…. I dunno…. I suppose it would all have to be redesigned for smaller screens. I would love it though if purchasing it on desktop meant you could use it on iPad for no extra charge - that’s what I would like to see across all software
Cubasis its embarssing .... 49 for an outdated daw with not either duplicate function ..i mean there is copy and paste ...thats ridiculous...not track grouping or folders no clip launcher .....and all they implemented is black coloured keys ...steinberg is totally loosing grounds snd users
They are. I agree but I don’t think Cubasis would ever have a clip launcher. Cubase has never been that kind of DAW. Although who’s to say, it might be an idea to approach the iOS version that was as clip launching with a touch screen is pretty cool…. I do like them black keys though!!!! 😂😂😂😂 not that it makes my piano playing any better. ✌️🙂
I’m afraid our friend here is right in everything he says. Cubasis has no clip launcher like Ableton or Logic or LK, there is no duplicate function like the one in Logic which is brilliantly implemented, you can’t assign a group of faders to move as one as Cubase has done for years, and you can’t assign a group of tracks to a collapsable folder like Logic or Cubase does.
@@ΥπερδιαγαλαξιακόςΑστροπολεμιστ it’s my favourite and in some ways it is the best. In other ways Logic Pro for iPad is better and has all the features we’ve been asking for in Cubasis for several years now. That’s kind of the point of the discussion. But our friend here pointed out some of the shortcomings and you replied with laughing emojis as though they are an idiot. You said that person was wrong about everything but in truth, they were right about everything.
I’m relatively new to Cubasis and still finding my way with it. Great to see a cool update. I haven’t got any in apps yet but these sound great.
They really do - the stock sounds in Cubasis aren’t really all that but my god these are good.
Excellent video my friend. I particularly like the FM synth.
Yeah me too, I’m really enjoying those sounds. Thank you so much for watching and taking time to comment. Have an awesome day!
@@JamieMallender
I still think that way with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ *and* an iPad Pro M4.
I eventually managed it, after 20 attempts. Strangely, this was on my newer iPad which is an M2. My older one did it first time.
@@JamieMallender just remembering that 4GBs of RAM was top-end in 2004 is also mind-blowing. And you needed a lift to carry 5MB in the 50’s 🤣

Not to mention that if and when eventually Cubasis gets those features, it might also go the subscription route 😅
Great video Jamie, nothing wrong with your keyboard playing either 😊
Jamie, well done my friend!! Stay honest!! You are an iOS treasure!!
Thanks Nino!
Any idea? Thanks
Midi track or audio track?
@@JamieMallender hi! 👋 midi tracks On iPhone 14. Thanks 🙏
@@dereksoto5390 if the midi appears to be recording but then disappears after you hit stop then strictly this means that no midi is being received. Are you trying to record an app that you are playing with a controller? If not, what are you trying to record?
Thanks for the great walkthrough of this new version, Jamie!
My pleasure David! Hope you’re ok my friend. 💜
Nice talk thru Jamie
Thank you Mark. There’s some great sounds here :)
Amp rack in Cubase is still one of my favorite amp simulators. It’s been out for so long now, I wish they would import it into Cubasis.
Having those tools in a portable, mobile device would be amazing.

As you know, Jamie. I'm also a Steinberg fan boy since Atari and Steinberg Pro 24. I will not jump ship. However, you are making good points. Mono export, tempo track would make huge difference and keep Cubasis in the professional zone.

In what way do you feel that Cubasis 3 beats Logic for iPad ?
I assume you mean 'beats' not 'bears', unless Yogi is in the house? 😁
I know you were asking Jamie but personally for me, CB3's user interface beats Logic by a long way.
@@Elwaves2925 Thanks , and yes I corrected, lol
@@WyattLite-n-inn Cool.
Good comment
@@JamieMallender Exactly what we thought too! LOL
Again. I would like to see a comp editor, to easily manage multiple takes. I use this for recording vocals ( cheating I know) but it’s the industry standard way of getting a great vocal track. Strangely it’s usually the first take that produces the best result.
That method doesn’t work for me but I know lots of people want that feature so they should add it, it’s a no-brainier really. ✌️✌️
Well done, Jamie. Good points about what's still missing - esp. tempo track. I really want Cubasis to be the best IOS DAW. It's not too far away from that, but we're still waiting for some key improvements.
You know what, that’s exactly how ai feel. I WANT it to be the best DAW just like Cubase rules on desktop.
We need scale lock 🔒 in app sampler/drum machine I'm on Android
You certainly can. The only thing it doesn’t have that causes me a problem, is tempo track. ✌️✌️
Or make their instruments auv3
I'm still team cubasis cuz I love it, and Logic isnt even an option on my older ipad. But I wouldn't pay a subscription for it anyway lol
🙏🏽💙🙏🏽
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!!!

✌️✌️
At this point bring cubase to iPad that would be their best bet
It would be a bit of a monumental task though I would imagine, fitting all of that functionality on an iPad screen. I need 2 pc monitors for it as it is. Plus, the iOS community is not used to paying much for software. And it’s a fairly small user base and only the more powerful iPads would be able to take it…. I dunno…. I suppose it would all have to be redesigned for smaller screens. I would love it though if purchasing it on desktop meant you could use it on iPad for no extra charge - that’s what I would like to see across all software
LoFi nasti sounds
What do you mean my friend?
😂😂😂😂😂.Bruh.You sure you use cubasis?Because cubasis covers whatever you say here with ease....
@@JamieMallender so what?It is still the best mobile daw out there. No kiding.I have almost 10 daws in smartphone
You really should stop talking about pissing pants.
Sorry 😂😁✌️👍
