Another great thing I discovered a few years ago related to the last tip you gave - You can hold the 'Alt' key while dragging a plugin from one channel to another, and it will copy it to the new channel with the exact same settings :)
Dom i know we dont know each other in person BUT i want to THANK YOU SO MUCH for everthing you do! Im an SAE Alumni myself and i still learn stuff every day and this channel is such a blessing!
Also I advise everyone who makes music, to get a bass shaker and mount it to your seat! It's sooo helpful to have something that not only makes you hear the bass but also literally makes you feel it!
You asked if there were any "Boom" moments ... I was blown away with most of these features you showed ... I didn't know about them. Thank you for making this video!
Well, I guess I am an advanced Cubase user ;) knew most of these except the first one (I never draw chords anyway). Extra tip for the Step Designer: Hit “randomize”, to generate a random sequence. Then insert the MIDI Modifiers plugin after the Step Designer and use “Scale Transpose” to force the random sequence to your favorite scale and key, and Boom!, your random sequence now plays in keys instead of some 12 tone music.
Great tips! I did not know most. TIP: to quickly copy a plugin to another track, in the mix window, hold ALT & click the plugin & drag & drop to the insert of a desired track = BOOM! Thx Dom
I'm wondering if there's a way to copy the plugin settings to multiple instances in different channels - if there's a way of using the Q-link maybe...?
Thank you so much for making me aware of the Re-Record function. You have added 6 years to my life! And showing me how to copy and paste plugin settings has added another 2 years to my life!
I'm going to give you a tip that I think few people know. If it helps, give it a like! In the sending channel when we are in the channel strip sometimes we add an FX and we want to modify that FX so the normal thing is that we look for the effect channel and open the plugin and modify it. but you can save this step by pressing ALT+double click on the submission and the plugin will open!
Great tips Dom. I use most of the tips so it's great to see. I love also using the 'P' key when a clip or a group of clips are selected to set left and right locator around the clips. Makes recording or looping easier and faster.
Great and informative as always! My own favourite tip is something I do when programming MIDI drums. First, I program all the drum parts to a grid - preferably 16ths. Then I use the MIDI Logical Editor to either 'Rockify' or 'Jazzify' (for lack of better phrases) the drums. Assuming about 120 BPM and starting with the kick, I randomize the kick from about -4 to +4 ticks. I do this to all the drums. Then, for 'Rockifying', I move all snare hits 4 ticks forward, so they fall a little bit later than the beat. Similarly, I move the hi-hat 6 ticks forward, and finally I move other cymbals and toms 8 ticks forward. This is an easy way to create the coveted 'pocket' which functions so well in rock and funk music. When 'Jazzifying', Instead I move the snare 4 ticks backwards making it fall a bit before the beat, hi-hat 6 ticks ahead and cymbals and toms 8 ticks ahead. As mentioned, this is easily done with the Midi Logical editor. This small trick can make even the stiffest, most boring beat danceable. Try it!
Thanks so much for this! I only knew of about 4 of the 10, and forgot about 3 of the 4. The rest were totally new to me and I have been a Cubase user for almost 20 years.
Those visual zooms to the right and left Cubase zones are EXTREMELY cool! And seeing your screen that closely is also wonderfully helpful for my aging eyes! 👀😁 Thank you 😎
@@mgmthegrand syck? Just an easy video filter, cool, but not very impressive or hard to pull off, as long as the color of your t-shirt doesn't have the same color of the thing behind you. It's a nice touch, shows he's also a video editor as well!!!
The Chords tip is cool , I didn’t know about it. The other tips are not new for me but when you put them in the context they became more powerful and want to use them. I wish if you do more videos about the SuperVision, I’m sure when you explain it with a real examples we will appreciate it even more.
Yo the recording trick is a huge time saver. Before I figured out how to stop the z key from zooming in on my selected track, if I tried to ctrl z too quickly after stopping the recording, it would be a hassle. Now I still go through all the steps you outlined here, but it’s so much simpler with this tip. Love it.
Thank you again, Dom! I hate that when I watch I feel like I know nothing about Cubase, even though I've used it for over 10 years! hahaha. So many features, more than I even thought, I guess I've been producing in the same way for so long I've forgotten to explore, thanks for always being incredibly helpful and giving us a little taste of how much knowledge you have!
I wish there was a musician as good as you who gave tips for FL Studio! Your videos make me wanna change to Cubase, but I feel like it is a bit late for me to change DAWs, I've been using FL for years now
I started my musical journey back in 2007, with the FL Studio 8 demo. Stuck with FL all the way until December of last year when curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to give Cubase a try. Totally worth it! It's my main DAW now. I recommend trying it out if you're curious.
Hi Dom - "Re-Record" was absolutely a BOOM for me. I'll be using it during my very next track session, and beyond. Re: "Constrain Delay Compensation" - - I never took time to understand that it's less complicated than I thought. It's mostly a nice convenience tool for live tracking/recording when a project is already full. Nice :-) The copying of a plug-in setting is handy, and I'm sure many will like it a lot. I still prefer to save any good setting as a preset, then launch the plug-in and select the preset. GREAT video once again! Keep them coming.
Since I am not a keyboard player, using the chord options is great timesaver for me. For this, I no longer have to use step entry and I can adjust the chords to the rhythmic value I want. Thank you for the great idea.
Seriously, I always go into a video titled like this with a food in my hand just playing in the backround and end up sitting down wit a notepad. Cheers Dom 👍👍👍
"Expand Routing" is an eye opener... it will make my life with my live performance project so much easier... I can't thank you enough for this and the other tips!!!
Thanks a lot for the tips, Dom! No matter how long I've been using Cubase, I still learned a couple of tricks I didn't know. But my favourite one is the t-shirt color change! 😆
Those videos are really helpful … and I wonder if anybody has started creating some kind of searchable index for them. More often than not, I find myself thinking: Dom sure has a video with a hint on this - I sure watched it, but which one was it? 😅 Anyway, thank you very much for investing the time to create these videos!
Dom, love your videos, can you please do a video on how to get around "regions" in Cubase. They are so annoying, overlapping midi, hiding notes, I cant believe Steinberg hasn't had an option to get rid of this workflow. Myself and many other composers absolutely hate it. Also when you bounce a standard midi file, Cubase "adds" all those hidden notes when you "glue" the midi together and messes up everything when I want to send to my orchestrator. Im sure if anyone has a solution its you, thanks in advance.
Dom, you are a Cubase wizard - So impressed with all your tutorials and the mastery of your craft. If you're taking requests and haven't done so already, I'd like to hear more about some of the producers you admire and some of your influences. Thanks for all the tips!
This is one of your best! So much useful information in so short a time. I knew most of these but have gotten out of the practice of using them, thanks for bringing them back to the front of my brain!
While I am well aware of chord creation feature (and I keep forgetting to use it 😆) I didn't know that you can change chord types with and Alt key and mouse drag. Thank You Sir for this tip!!
I can't work without Selected track enlarge setting on. VERY useful to easy workflow and follow at what track am I at the moment. Same as "locate when clicked in empty space. :)
I ❤ your cubase videos!!! I'm a newbie producer, and I appreciate all the tips and advice I can get! Keep it up Dom!!! I've learned sooooo much from you already!!! I love your energy and the way you make your videos!!! Normally I can't keep paying attention because of ADD, but with you I can even type this while I keep listening to you and understand everything!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
To clear up: I've only just downloaded Cubase and I'm still in the beginning stages of learning the DAW, after about 20 years of not touching a DAW, the last one I tried was FL 3 or 4 lol, but I can't remember much from it
Thanks TRILLIONS dearest Dom... I knew all except for two - The Chord change with Alt key & the step sequencer..🤗 Enjoyed this sooooooooo much !!! Cheers... 🎉🎉👍👊👊
Thanks Dom, this was super helpful. I especially like the one about delay compensation! My tip to add that I recently discovered is in creating user kit presets in Groove Agent!!! I'm currently producing for a singer songwriter client. Most of my other clients are R&B. Before our session I created a special session template for her and auditioned the sounds from my library - creating kits of things I found that could possibly work great with her specifically. So now I have a sonic pallet already saved and ready to go AND they can easily be loaded within ANY instance of Groove Agent. (side note, things got a little buggy when renaming the kits and also loading so many back to back to check each one. But other than that this is an AWESOME feature for me). Cheers!
Great tips, Dom. I knew maybe 2 out of the ones you showed like the copy paste of plugins setup and the delay compensation. The Pulltec style EQ, the midi chord selection and the re-record are absolutely amazing tips. Thank you so much!! Your videos are simple and tight. Extremely helpful and I actually change my methodologies in realtime while testing your tips along with the video. It's really wonderful. btw, I'm using Cubase 12 and it's all there! So it's important that I don't need to upgrade to every version just to get these nice little goodies. Thank you so much, man!
Finally...Thanx Dom, I always feel motivated and inspired after watching your video's. I think learning how your DAW works streamlines the creative process! There were a few tips I instantly tried out. My "BooM" moment was the hidden controles. Never could figure out how to customise my controles. Thanks Dom.
Holy crap, that constrain delay compensation feature is pure magic! That is going to save me so much time. I was having to turn off all plugins individually one by one when I wanted to record an extra part. Amazing
holy moly!!! the first tip chord thing is freaking AMAZING!!!! i always hide these options due to Cubase-Option-Overload but this is a true gem! thanks Don, as always :P
The track buttons options are something I’ve used and forgotten several times, the channel EQ has been my lazy self’s go-to since Cubase 6, and I’ve definitely been using the channel outs list more recently, but some of this stuff blew my mind. The rerecord option could probably have saved me cumulative days, over the 13 years I’ve had Cubase. The step designer is something I haven’t used, although I’ve used Arpache occasionally. I watched your video about Supervision, though, and that’s got me all sorts of geeking out. I knew there was a good reason (or hundred) why I went with Cubase.
The midi latency issue has been a problem. Thanks for showing me the shortcut to disable the plugins with latency! Re-record is very cool as well. Thanks!
Thanks for the useful tips Don. New to me were the chord input function (although I'm a midi head from the eigthies, so I knew the midi step sequencer already from SX). New to me was also the Pulteq EQ curve in the standard EQ, also with curve IV. And Rerecord is a time saver, although Ctrl + Z worked a lot quicker already, compared to stop, delete, go the start en hit Record again. The . button for bars/seconds is new to me and copy plugin settings by right clicking in the mixer slot. So it was an educating video. Keep up the good work 🙂
Thanks I use most of your tips but i didn't know the Expand Routing and the chords i think because i usualy play it with keyboard anyway it's very usefull for other people !
There is a hidden feature in Cubase that I discovered recently, which was making me upset about my mixing in cubase and this is the “sends follow pan” on the top right settings of the channel window. I dont know if maybe this was added in cubase 13 or It was before but… life saver!!!🎉🎉
Great tips, the only things I didnt need was the step sequencer and the chord creator cause I do more self made music but the rest was of really great value to me. Thx a lot! 🎉
Very useful video, I learned a lot! It seems "expand routing" and "copy/paste settings" are the only tricks here that I knew about. :D I use copy/paste settings all the time since Cubase 10. I've been using Cubase since early 2006.
That first one was a real revelation... i never used that before but it's great to experiments with moods for your composition! The others are kind of workflow things that I sometimes use and forget about. But I don't care so much about these plugin icons.
Hi Dom. Can you maybe show us how you wired your studio. I want to build a desk like yours and need to know how your patch bay works. I know it is a big ask. Take care man and thank you for everything.
Hey Dom. I just bought my first Cubase 13 Pro, so I am watching all your terrific videos on the amazing features Cubase provides. One comment on the MIDI Step Sequencer that maybe you can suggest to Steinberg is that Cakewalk has a step sequencer that does some amazing things that I wish Cubase could emulate. The Cakewalk step sequencer allows you to create ""flam" hits for drums like snares, and it allows you to set a probability for any particular note to be played (or not). That allows you to create some beats that are dynamic in the sense that some notes are there some of the time only, giving a stiff drum pattern some random variations. An even better feature would be to make the Velocity of any note, a random value between 2 set values. Please consider feeding this suggestion to Steinberg. Thank you for the great videos.
Bless up Dom, Here we go Tip 1: Didn't know this one or really use to be fair, however I use the Chord Pads for my work flow. Tip 2: Know this tip. I tend to use it on a fresh install of Cubase. Tip 3: BOOM! Knew this and still use this thanks to you on an earlier video you made The channel EQ is truly underrated. Tip 4: Didn't know this one, however I tend to put my Groups/Sends into the relative folders in the project window ie: Vocals Guitars Drums etc. in my workflow Tip 5: BOOM! Hadn't a clue on this one. Will be RINSING this on my synths going forward. Tip 6: Didn't know this one...oh my days...the example you describe I've experienced a few times of late. Will use this tip DEFFO! Tip 7: Didn't know this one. my workaround was record > make mistake > Ctrl + Z then record again. I'll will give this a go for sure Tip 8: BOOM! Yep knew this one. This is what my 2nd monitor calls home as well: ) Tip 9: didn't know this shortcut. I usually right-click on the timeline the choose the options, thanks for that Tip 10: Knew this one, I have my fave settings featured on the audio channels. Bonus Tip: Knew this one also, I have another tip to accompany the plugin settings and that is copying a plugin to another channel in the Mix Console by click/drag + Alt to the insert of choice then copy/paste settings as you describe. Thank you Dom for your guidance and wealth of inspiration you give us Cubasers Full appreciation amigo
Thanks a mill Dom for another 🔥 video. As an old Cubase user since the Atari days I love watching “new” tricks, even if I already knew them before. The Chord trick in the Key editor wasnt on my Radar. Mainly because I always play realtime, not the big “mouse dude”. Youre a great tutor, keep up the awesome work on this channel 💪🏻
Thank you very much! Not only for this content but for everything you do. I learned a lot from your content and you always transmit such good vibes! Take care.

I just noticed that t-shirt when I was scrolling back through the video and wondered if anyone else had commented! 😁
Great and informative as always! My own favourite tip is something I do when programming MIDI drums. First, I program all the drum parts to a grid - preferably 16ths. The midi latency issue has been a problem. Thanks for showing me the shortcut to disable the plugins with latency! Re-record is very cool as well. Thanks!
Thanks once again! For me, the final hidden gem was the best today, so simple as a copy-paste... Thanks!
Hi Dom ! Thanks for these tips. The re-record I am already using since years constantly 🙂
Thanks Dom - revelation! You are a natural and inspirational teacher :)
Amazing channel 🙏🏽⚡️
Step Designer works great on external synths as well. Cubase just has so much, it's kinda crazy when you start thinking about it.
Dom your a Genius am super proud of you,i fully produce in cubase because of your teaching, left fl studio and it's the best decision I made.❤❤❤❤
Dom = The gift that keeps on giving 🙏🏼
wow dom iv bin useing cubase since it was a midi sequencer(1994) and i did know any of theses tricks ..,... thanks
Thx a lot! 🎉
Recently made the switch (back) to cubase from pro tools, and these videso are extremely helpful :D
The BOOM moment for me was the re-record function. Will be so useful. Thanx Dom. :)
Good one! Been using Cubase for ages and I’m still learning from your tips, Dom. I appreciate so much
Hi Dom. Can you maybe show us how you wired your studio. I want to build a desk like yours and need to know how your patch bay works. I know it is a big ask. Take care man and thank you for everything.
You are from another planet! Been watching you for years now and you always inspires me!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Re-record! That’s a boom!!! Thanks Dom
@14:50 definitively a BOOM!!!!! moment 👍
Thank you very much for your cooperation in such a nice way. I love you so much sir❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Dom - "Rerecord" is most helpful new tip. Thanks
Bless up Dom, Here we go
Tip 1: Didn't know this one or really use to be fair, however I use the Chord Pads for my work flow.
Tip 2: Know this tip. I tend to use it on a fresh install of Cubase.
Tip 3: BOOM! Knew this and still use this thanks to you on an earlier video you made The channel EQ is truly underrated.
Tip 4: Didn't know this one, however I tend to put my Groups/Sends into the relative folders in the project window ie: Vocals Guitars Drums etc. in my workflow
Tip 5: BOOM!
I'll will give this a go for sure
Tip 8: BOOM! Yep knew this one. This is what my 2nd monitor calls home as well: )
Tip 9: didn't know this shortcut. I usually right-click on the timeline the choose the options, thanks for that
Tip 10: Knew this one, I have my fave settings featured on the audio channels.
Love these videos so much! Not clickbait useless info that everyone already knows. Super useful, thanks Dom!!
Thank you very much! Not only for this content but for everything you do. I learned a lot from your content and you always transmit such good vibes! Take care.
Thank you so much for the support my friend ❤️
